****PLEASE READ AND SHARE****

The cold and inclement weather is here!!! Please read this. There are laws in Suffolk county to protect the voiceless! We need to speak for them. Call SCSPCA or SCPD. See something do something!! The second page refers to Brookhaven township, obviously using the same guidelines call the appropriate township needed.

Now that winter and freezing temperatures are upon us, please keep an eye out for our furry neighbors. Too many people are careless and heartless leaving pets outside to suffer. In Suffolk County this is against the law. Please call the police if you see a dog left outside suffering for more than an hour. We need to be their voice!!!

Please Note Dog Owners AND Anyone who scans animals!
This is an X-ray of a dog’s flexed elbow (front leg). The tiny white shape on the forearm is a microchip that had been implanted at the dog’s shoulders. **This is why it’s important to scan for your dog’s microchip at every vet exam.** They drift, sometimes dramatically from where they are implanted. This chip was missed at the shelter where he was pulled from, as it would be missed by many vets or shelters. Yes, anyone scanning *should* be scanning the entire dog, but this doesn’t always happen and microchips do on rare occasion go bad and fail as well. It’s our responsibility as owners to ensure the chip is functioning and situated where it’s less likely to be missed. The benefits of having your pet microchipped far outweigh the risks, but that chip is useless if it can’t be located when needed. Also be sure it is registered with your up to date contact information!

Roxy still has a ways to go - but she is so sweet

14/04/2018

Roxy Upadate: 4/14/2018:
Roxy is halfway through her first week of intensive physical therapy. As you can see in the video she’s starting to touch her toe on the ground- not true weigh bearing - but it’s a start. The staff at Shirley Veterinary Hospital are giving her the care and therapy she need but also the love she needs. She is the sweetest puppy and loved by all!

04/09/18 - Roxy update-
Our sweet girl is doing well - she is out of the woods with her fever and overall health- but is still in need of the physical rehab portion of the recovery. She is not weight bearing on her leg yet. She will remain in the hospital to continue the intensive rehab - laser treatments, electrical stimulation treatments and range of motion physical therapy.
Thank you to Dr Infernuso for the successful surgery and Dr Archer and his team at Shirley Veterinary Hospital/Healing Hands 4 Paws for taking such wonderful care of this sweet girl.

A little update on our sweet Roxy. Her hip surgery went well last week. She's starting with intense physical therapy for a few weeks to make sure she regains movement in her leg. She had a bit of a setback for the past few days that had us all very worried. Her temperature reached 106. So we were so worried about her. But her being on antibiotics and in the wonderful care of Dr. Archer and Dr. Tomas Infernuso, her temperature is normal again thank God!!! We had tears of happiness. She looked great today as we visited her. The issue with her fever set her recovery back a bit.. but we are still very much moving forward in doing the very best for her care and recovery. She's such a sweet angel and we will do anything for her. As anyone knows in the rescue world, we wish funds would fall from the sky to help these babies in need. But unfortunately that doesn't happen. We are still in need of funds and would greatly appreciate anything at all helping in her care. We thank you and most of all, Roxy thanks you!

Siege of Leningrad - Wikipedia

A little history about Roxi....

How they were found: And old woman lived in the small abandoned village with her male dog named Gypsy. Gypsy brought home his pregnant girlfriend and she had 5 puppies. The old lady was feeding them until she was taken to a nursing home, and the dogs were left alone. - Gypsy, a mother and 5 puppies. The people live in this small village only during the summer time and the dogs could die from hunger. The woman called her friend and asked him to take care of the dogs. He was driving there almost every day to feed them. But then he was hospitalized and the volunteers went there to catch the dogs. They caught Gypsy and 5 puppies but the mother ran away. The volunteers drive there once a week to leave dry food for her. Gypsy and 2 puppies were adopted. 3 puppies lived in a foster home near St. Petersburg in a small village with 10 other dogs. Then they were transported to Moscow 1 day before their flight to NY.

The old lady who had Gypsy ( Roxy's father) was 87 years old and betrayed by her greedy relatives. She was left on an abandoned place in purpose because they kicked her out from her apartment in the city. She was barely walking and was hungry herself when a good Samaritan who has a summer home at the same place found her. The poor Grandma was feeding herself and the dogs with just bread and lived in a cold house. Gypsy was brought to her door when he was a puppy and she was taking care of him as much as she could. The volunteers saved the old lady first by placing her in the nursing home, then they took care of the dogs. The relatives never showed up at the nursing home and never had any concerns about the dogs. They had her apartment in the city which costs a lot of money and were just happy about the deal! I cannot even imagine how people can be so cruel! This old lady survived the the Siege of St. Peresburg ( former Leningrad )https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Leningrad). People were eating rats, birds, dead bodies to survive. It is unbearable to know that she had experienced it again because of the people she trusted. I am speechless.

The Siege of Leningrad, also known as the Leningrad Blockade (Russian: Блокада Ленинграда, transliteration: Blokada Leningrada), was a prolonged military blockade undertaken from the south by the German Army Group North, Spanish Blue Division and the Finnish Army in the north, again...
