What is Prescription Diet® (Hill's) ?
甚麼是獸醫糧(希爾思)？

Prescription diets don't actually contain any medicine, it's just a different balance of nutrients that's supposed to cure the disease, and it does not require a prescription, rather it's just pet food solely SOLD BY VETt, instead of prescription drug prescribed by vets. This is very misleading indeed.
實際上，希爾思處方糧裡面並沒有藥用成分，佢只係靠平衡唔同既營養去幫助治療病情。處方糧唔係藥物，本不需要獸醫處方，但係商家希爾思就只會係獸醫診所售賣。呢種銷售模式好誤導。

In fact Hills Science got a copy right for the term Prescription Diet®, so that no other pet food can be branded Prescription Diet®, others may be branded veterinary diet.
不突止，希爾思獲取咗處方食品 - Prescription Diet® 既版權，所以就只有希爾思先可以叫自己係糧食為處方糧，其他品牌就只能叫獸醫糧或其他叫法。

We should give it a deeper thought why "prescription diet" is advertised everywhere and why the vet recommends to us, and if this is actually the only food we could give our pets when they get ill.
我地應該要諗深啲，究竟點解我地就成日見到處方糧既廣告，點解獸醫會經常推薦呢啲糧。而處方糧又係唔係真係狗狗生病時，唯一可以食既食物。

✨Why Doesn't Kyūbi Eat Kibbles Anymore✨
✨點解 Kyubi 唔再食狗狗乾糧✨

"Dry kibbles are just like ultra-processed junk food."
“乾糧就如高度加工既垃圾食物。“ - 🐶💁🏻‍♀️

When we first had Kyūbi a year ago, he had BAD digestive conditions, he was skinny, his coat was coarse and he frequently had upset tummy.
一年前當我地帶 Kyūbi 返屋企既時候，佢好瘦削，皮膚毛質差，而且經常有便便問題。

We had seek many vets' advice... we were prescribed antibiotics (metronidazole), which helped with the diarrhoea for a little while, but it came back as soon as we stopped the antibiotics, and we have repeated this course of treatment for several times already. The vet called these antibiotic-responsive diarrhoea, implying the the gut has accumulated much bad bacteria that only when using antibiotics to kill all the bad bacteria (including the good one), the digestion could function normally.
我地諮詢咗好多獸醫既意見，亦重複咗好多次抗生素(metronizadole)療程，但可惜每次一停食抗生素，便便問題又再返嚟。獸醫稱呢種肚痾問題為對抗生素療程有反應既肚痾，佢地解釋唔到點解，但意思就係腸道裡面有好多壞菌，需要用抗生素殺死先可以有正常既消化同便便。

It was a very dark period for us, despite being on prescription diet (Hill's® Prescription Diet® i/d®), and taking premium probiotic supplements, Kyūbi's digestion did not improve... and we were given the option to start Kyūbi on a TWO-MONTH course of antibiotics treatment, which we felt was very extreme, because antibiotics can really damage the normal balance of the bacteria in his body.
但其實真的好灰，就算我地只係餵佢食希爾思處方食品犬用 i/d 低脂，再加上用優質既益生菌補充品，便便都無改善。獸醫就俾我地選擇用一個長達兩個月長既抗生素療程去調理腸胃，但我地覺得抗生素是在對身體太差，傷害到自身腸道既益菌。

We were also offered the option to try Royal Canin's Hydrolyzed Protein HP Dry Dog Food ... Hydrolyzed protein is a solution derived from the hydrolysis of a protein into its component amino acids and peptides. We thought this didn't make sense, why couldn't a dog break down normal protein but need to eat hydrolysed protein, despite it, by design is a carnivore? and We'd feel very very sad for Kyūbi to only eat one kind of food for the rest of his life.
另一獸醫就推薦用法國皇家處方水解蛋白低敏糧，水解蛋白即係將蛋白質化解成胺基酸和多肽。我地就覺得好奇怪，好地地一隻肉食既狗狗，因咩原因需要食水解蛋白，而且佢既一生就只可以食這種乾糧為正餐？我地為 Kyūbi 感到好傷心。

So after days and days of research, we've finally decided to try feeding Kyūbi fresh food, not just as a temporary solution to his diarrhoea, but rather a lifestyle change for him for the better. And to our surprise, as soon as we started cooking real meat, vegetables and fruits for him, this diarrhea was gone within a week. And he was not limited to eating one kind of protein, he could eat a variety of foods.
經過多日上網研究，我地決定餵鮮食俾 Kyūbi，不只是為了解決個別一兩次既肚痾，而係希望呢個飲食習慣可以另佢身體長遠健健康康。好驚喜，就我地開始每日清煮肉、菜、水果內一個禮拜，Kyūbi 就然無事一樣，一切消化和便便都變得正常！

As we learn more about fresh feeding, now this all makes sense, kibbles are extremely highly processed food, with high heat processing, and using by-product meats as ingredients with unknown sources, which essentially is junk food. It's hard to imagine that a dog could eat dry kibbles and achieve optimal health, just like in order to achieve optimal health, we could not just rely on meal replacement or multi-vitamin.
隨著我地對狗糧既了解，呢一切都解釋到了，一般乾糧係經過多重高溫處理，好多食物本身既營養都已經流失，而且狗糧入面既肉來歷不明，食狗糧就好似我地食垃圾食物一樣。人類都唔可以靠代餐或多種維他命黎達到最佳健康，長時間食加工食物亦難免消化有問題，好難想像狗狗能夠食這些乾糧而又能達到最佳健康。
