Swim season is about over for a lot of us, but if your pup loves water, you can still try meeting their needs over the winter by enrolling them in swimming lessons or even trying out dock diving at an indoor facility! A pup with their needs met is an easier pup to live with!

A holistic approach to well-being is nothing new for us people, but applying this concept to our pets is still gaining traction. A holistic lifestyle starts includes good nutrition, proper mental and physical exercise, and even alternative medicine and rehab therapies to complement traditional western medicine. Take some time to learn about caring for your pet with the same generosity you give your own mind, body, and spirit. Some of our favorite wellness tips for dogs include:

🐾 Providing a balanced, fresh food diet
🐾 Including enrichment toys, feeders, and puzzles in their everyday routines
🐾 Allowing them to practice species and breed specific behaviors through safe outlets like Barnhunt, nosework, agility, herding, flyball, nature walks, hunting, etc.
🐾 Providing robust preventative care like bloodwork, yearly vet workups, chiro and massage, and more.
🐾 Taking them on long walks in nature to decompress and be a dog.

Today's the national Rainbow Bridge Remembrance day, where we take a moment in our scrolling to reflect back on the furry lives that touches us, changed us, and loved us.

If you love your dog like we love ours, then your pet is a member of your family. Their loss can be deep and painful and leave lasting marks. We said goodbye to staff pup Penzi, the dingo who started it all, not very long ago. We're grateful she made an impact on our team and inspired us to provide only the best for not only our own dogs, but our clients' dogs and the dogs of our community.

May our pups over the bridge enjoy all the tennis balls, treats, walks, and playtime they could ever wish for!

Want great focus from your pups? It's not just good for killer insta pics - focus and attention when asked can be a safety skill, too!

If you're struggling to get your pup to look at you when you say their name, try to carry high value treats on you (like the duck treats in our enrichment kits this season!) and praise and reward them with it when they OFFER their focus!

Just wander around your yard and capture every moment your dog checks in on their own. Building value for this voluntary behavior means they're more likely to give you that attention when you ask for it! 😎

Some parts of the country and across the world are still experiencing a homeless animal crisis. Stray animals can disrupt local ecosystems, spread disease, and cause conflict between people and pets. Not to mention, hundreds of wonderful, sweet, loving animals are without loving families to care for them, and left to fend for themselves.

Ways you can help:

3. Spay and Neuter your pets or keep them responsibly contained at all times.
4. Report stray sightings to your local animal control.

Tomorrow is National Mutt Day!

Purebred dogs can be pretty cool, but mutts kick butt! We have plenty of wonderful, happy, fun, smart mutts who join our hikes and test our enrichment products in the office. They're unique and special in each of their own ways and we're so glad there are so many colorful pups out there bringing laughter and love to their families.

It’s really easy to take photos for granted. We love that with great cameras in our pocket we can capture so many of life’s normal, fleeting, imperfectly delicious moments - both in photos and video.

We started as a dog hiking company, and over time we've expanded services into pet photography, training, and even this enrichment box! While trying to simply update clients about their dogs on hikes, we started taking photos and videos a bit more seriously...

We encourage our hikers to capture cool poses and fun or sentimental moments with their phones. Sometimes you find neat things to pose on, like these mushrooms! The dogs end up loving it for all the treats they earn being perfect little models. In the end, it becomes enriching for the hikers, the dogs, and the clients who get to see their pups living their best lives in nature!

So while ‘National Dog Photography Day’ is a good excuse to flood the internet with more dog photos (yes, please!) it also feels like the perfect day for us to share the enriching benefits of getting that camera out and capturing even the little moments with our pups.

Cold Hard Fact: Puppies at pet stores usually come from puppy mills.

According to Puppy mills are ‘inhumane commercial dog breeding facilities that may sell puppies in pet stores, online or directly to the public. Puppy mills disregard the dogs' health—both physical and emotional—in order to maximize profits’

Yes, this even includes pet stores that sell from "responsible breeders" only. A good breeder will want to meet you and keep their puppies in their home, not in a store front.

Giving them money means allowing another puppy to suffer. Say "no" to the cute little puppy in the window and look at local rescues or meet your dog's breeder and adults before you buy. Help us spread awareness of this ongoing and difficult issue.

If your dog likes food, gets into the trash, pokes around, or loves to squeak, destuff, and toss around toys... we got you covered.

We like our toys to have multiple uses or functions! If there's not a hidden toy inside, then there better be some sort of puzzle to be figured out or multiple textures and ways to play... This one's got it all, actually. Hide food in the folds, let them tear out and squeak the fish bones, and toss it around like a frisbee - whatever your dog loves!

Enrichment isn't always about a product you buy (yeah I know, that's kind of our thing but we're honest here)!

Taking your dog out to someplace new, letting them explore and sniff, and asking them to do tricks and basic obedience somewhere new can challenge the brain and tire them out just as much as fetch, puzzles, and chews can! Don't forget to get outside. 🐾🐶
