The following is from Kym on the loss of our sweet, funky Ziggy this weekend.

on saturday we said goodbye to our zig and as shocking as it was i’m trying to be grateful he only had one bad day. zig was such a delight to live life with and our joyous little secret. because he was terrified of most things only a few very special people really got to experience his true je ne sais quoi and boy were they lucky. i’ll miss the little holes he nibbled in all my clothes, his high pitch hoots during pack howls and how he waved his little chicken wing around like he just didn’t care but mostly i’ll miss his spirit. he was one of a kind and is deeply missed. sail on my sweet ziggy.

I’ll (Dave) add that Zig was and will always be important in that he was the first dog we adopted from dog rescue. Kym saw him on Petfinder and famously said to me, “This guy looks like he needs a break.” We were pretty sure that we would be ineligible due to the large amount of dogs we already had but fortunately Shawn and the crew there are careful to look into who an applicant actually is and what their situation is like. And so it was that Kym’s explanation for our particular brand of crazy passed the test and we’ve been in the tribe ever since. Frame one was Ziggy comes home and the last few were a beautiful deck day just a month ago. Old man snout in full, grey bloom. Zig spent 13 years here once he got sprung from a puppy mill and we can’t really have a single regret, though it’s always too soon. Shout out again, as always, to for the above and beyond care. 🐾♥️

He’s great on a leash, a gentleman in the car, potty trained and loves attention. Repost from In 1996, George Rodrigue was commissioned to create this painting of the Blue Dog. That same year, Rodrigue had an exhibition called “Blue Dog for President” at Union Station in Washington, DC, which coincided with the 1996 presidential election.

The works on view in that exhibition and this painting reflect Rodrigue’s interest in America’s political system in a general sense. In paintings from this period, Rodrigue depicted the Blue Dog as a secret service agent, a presidential candidate in a televised debate, and Abraham Lincoln. In this painting, the Blue Dog dons a red, white, and blue stars and stripes tie. Above the dog’s head is the word “vote.” In our current election year, this 1996 painting has renewed relevance with its straightforward message to vote.

Sunday Halloween fun yesterday for their annual dog event. Kym and Aunt Cindy got Noon set up Dave and Dave as Noon. He finished his big Sunday with some patio dinner. 👻🎃🍽️
