Lake County Animal Care and Control will conduct a Community Cat surgery day on June 17th. Surgeries will continue to cost $15 for spay/neuter, vaccinations, and ear tip. We will be able to schedule 30 cats for this one day. Due to huge demand, we will utilize a lottery system and surgeries will be scheduled with a random selection. All scheduled surgeries will be for ONE cat. We will also select individuals to be placed on a standby list. These individuals are to be prepared to replace any openings the day of surgery.

To be placed in the lottery, please call our shelter at (707) 263-0278 before 5pm, June 6th, 2022. We will contact the chosen individuals on June 7th, 2022.

As a reminder, our Community Cat program is for UNOWNED free roaming cats.

We continue to search for a replacement veterinarian, and are working to provide consistent surgery dates and vaccination clinics until the position is filled.

Seems relevant as we are in the throes of puppy & kitten season. So much suffering happens when unwanted litters occur and a lot of hard and often heartbreaking work for all the rescues and volunteers who end up picking up the pieces. Please spay and neuter your pets. 🙏🏻 🐕 🐈

I just love this SO much. This is Annika Larsen, my bestie from back home, who is a national treasure in South Africa where she is a news anchor for e.tv. Only now, she has competition! During lockdown broadcasts from her living room, Batman has been stealing the limelight! 🤩📺✨

Just finished up an enjoyable cat sit with these pretty 13yr old sibling kitties, Hero & Leander, aka Ro & Lee. We had a nice long time together, which allowed me to really get to know these sweet, shy and beloved babies. It has also been really fun to spend much of Feb and March in Marin county with lots of time to explore and discover her hidden treasures. I definitely look forward to returning sometime soon. Self isolating is always better with pets! 🐾 💕 🐾

Just finished a very special ranch sit. Most of these guys are like family to me. Okie, the buckskin and Dolly, the approximately 50 year old mule (!!!she was 46 for many years 😂!!!) were part of the herd my horse lived with for 15 years, so I used to feed and interact with them daily for most of that time and have really missed them. The goats and barn cats are also beloved friends. So nice to see them all doing well in their new location. In addition to the horses, goats and barn cats, I also took care of the chickens, 4 house cats and kept the wild birds well stocked. Two of the cats are rescued ginger Manx females from the same litter, Foxy & Fiona, and boy are they little sweethearts. It seems that along with those special ginger Manx genetics, comes an extra big dose of the affection trait! 😻🥰🐾🐈🐴🐓🐐🐾💖

So happy when I get to check back in on beloved fur babies and see them grow and thrive. This is Pumpkin Spice and I got to babysit him when he was just an itty bitty kitty, freshly rescued as a wildling from our local Trailside Park. Last week I had the pleasure of looking after him again and he is now just over a year old and has grown into a handsome chap. He is still a rowdy young boy and I can absolutely see that this is the same cat. Some idiosyncrasies and mannerisms are so individual, you just don’t grow out of them. Made me happy to see him and know that he won the cat lottery with a wonderful home.

Last week I learned that one of my sweet kitty clients passed away.
It is impossible not to get attached to my animal charges and I am really sad that we lost this cool guy. His time had clearly come and his mom made the kindest decision to help him transition. Garfield was a one of a kind polydactyl cat and I will miss him and remember him fondly.
RIP sweet boy.

Sweet bedtime snugglers, Winkie Woo and Pumpkin Spice, one on either side of me. If it weren’t for that little black nose, it would be hard to spot the dog! She blends right in, especially when sleeping on her favorite white fluffy blanket or sheepskin rug!

A few weeks after I lost my beloved heart horse, Prospero, my wonderfully talented friend, Anne Ducrot, surprised me with this incredibly generous and beautiful painting of my dearest equine. While nothing can really soften the blow of such a loss, her lovely portrait really helped soothe my broken heart. A beautiful memory of him which I can cherish and enjoy daily, while always honoring his memory and place in my life. Somehow this gift really helped my grieving process.
