Another day another muster of ewes and lambs for weaning.
Ramulam Luna out the back and for the first time since may Ed is back out in the paddock.
Even though his tendon surgery was a failure he seems to be coping alright on the 3 legs.

Nap doing nap things

19/10/2023

Big day for the dogs, started weaning the xbred lambs.
Had to shuffle a few mobs around and process the lambs then muster tomorrows mob.
With injury’s in the camp nap, ruby and Luna have been very busy this past month and a bit.
Great example of why a team of dogs is needed!

The eyes are open and they are slowly starting to move around a bit now.

With a bit warmer weather coming through lately it really shows the importance of not rushing your stock and pushing them along hard.
Ramulam Luna is just ticking this mob along towards the gate, long as they are moving steadily along I’m happy.

The difference it makes when you handle your sheep with a low stress pressure and relief method vs chasing them everywhere, allows you to drive around them with out having them p**s bolt to the other side of the paddock.

Nap helping load the pens up for the shearer’s this morning.
He’s pushed up a lot of sheep for me over years this dog he’ll be 6 end of this year.
Hoping his work traits come through in the pups out of Nala.

Shearing boys and some drys ewes today. Nap and wyndora ruby loading the shed.

Bring the rams in for shearing tomorrow.
Ramulam Luna getting some more on the job experiences, really liking what this young bitch is showing as she gets more experience on the job and matures out.

21/09/2023

Ramulam Luna bring a small mob of ram lambs/wethers in for crutching.
I like how calm she is but still has good walk in strength on her stock. Shows distance and feel when working her stock whilst also showing me she’s thinking about what’s going on.

17/09/2023

Wyndora ruby had a massive week pushing up to the cradle and also mustering for crutching and marking.
Having her self a little nap on lunch break.

Ramulam Nala is due to drop in 10 days, how many you guessing she’ll have?

When the muster was just going to smoothly so young Luna gets a bit keen to get around the mob through the gate and cute a few off.
They where the hardest 4 sheep to get through that gate after haha 😂 fun times

Have been a bit unlucky with dogs this year.
First Ed severed his Achilles tendon to which I decided to do the surgery and join it back together and was looking good till the very end when they said the tendon had stretched some how and that it was a fail.
Now today whilst working in the yards Ramulam kick managed to cut his leg very very close to his Achilles tendon, at this stage it looks like it’s just a cut but heading into the vets to get it all double checked and make sure all is well.

13/09/2023

After a full day in the yards pushing up the crutching trailer the dogs then had to head to the paddock to muster ewes and lambs for the next day round.
Need dogs with good stamina in this industry.
Ramulam kick, wyndora ruby and nap working.

Mustering the ewes and lambs this afternoon for crutching and marking tomorrow.
Ramulam Lunas first time working ewes and lambs, I like her style she’s not over forcing but will walk in on the stock, gives them time to think not just push. She should mature out into a handy mustering dog.

Excited to announce that Ramulam Nala is in pup to Nap.
She’s about half way atm and is due end of sep.
There will be pups available from this litter feel free to flick me a message with any enquires or to book a pup.

Nala is natural mustering dog that will drive or bring sheep to you.
She works with good distance in the paddock getting around her stock and controlling them from a distance with out upsetting the mob.
She has a big natural searching cast with natural break when she sees sheep further out.
She will head the sheep on both sides when balancing and get to the point of control when driving.
All though not the most forceful yardy dog she will also work in the yards and does back sheep.
She has a good nature and trainability, she is fairly biddable but does think for her self.

Nap is a good allrounder proficient in both the paddock and yard.
He has a good natural searching cast as well, he works a bit closer with more push.
Nap is an excellent yard dog in any situation required of him.
I’ve pushed sheep up to me through a handler with him, pushed up to a 3 stand crutching trailer and also loaded sheds, trucks and trailers with ease.
Very good backing dog to the point I’ve got him to back in the paddock at times when going through canola stubble.
He has a very loving nature and loves a pat, biddable and trainable but will also work freely.

Well this afternoons muster turned into a bit of an adventure.
The Polaris side by side has this cool thing where if water gets onto a certain electrical part that it doesn’t run till it drys out.
Needed to get the sheep out still so on foot it was, dogs done there job nicely.
Ramulam Luna got a further education today, firstly moving a smaller group through the bush on her own which she handle extremely well and just took it all in her stride. She’s a credit to her breeder with her natural ability.
And secondly working on a mob of 1000 hoggets which she also took in her stride and didn’t seem to faze her but just got on with the job.

I like to let the dogs have there head in these situations and keep my commands to a minimum.

Couple weeks back me and the dogs attended the state yard and utility trial at kellerberin.
Dogs worked well for me through out the trial.

Wyndora ruby had her second yard trial making the highest first round score in the improver of 89, some handler era in the finals cost us those crucial points and went home with 2nd.
She also had her second utility run in the open which she performed at well, need a bit more fine tuning for trialing but she worked well none the less.

Ramulam kick had his open yard run and put together a nice 93 in the first round and an 89 in the finals, unfortunately wasn’t quite enough to take the win but got him self 3rd place.
In his open utility run he had him self a little brain faze and x on the cast costing 15 straight of the bat.
Worked past that and he delivered the sheep straight down the ground nicely.
Ended up running out of time and only getting a minor score of 44

Naps first round open run he got a couple sheep that wanted to break back and cost him in the first round but managed to make the finals still.
His finals run started off great making it the whole way round smoothly but at the put away I took my eyes off him for a bit to long whilst closing a gate and things got interesting to say the least, however still ended up with an 89 giving him 6th overall.
Nap had a good open utility run getting around to the pen for a 64 which was just enough to get into the finals.
The final run we got unlucky with some very flighty sheep to which I decided to retire.

All in all very happy with the dogs and how the performed.

Video from last shearing, was a storm brewing and needed to get these girls undercover asap.
Ramulam kick lending a hand to get it done.

Gave Roxy (ramulam Charlie x davina) a run this arvo.
Nice calm pup gets around her stock pretty well, I would like to see a bit cleaner heading naturally but see how she develops early days yet.

25/07/2023

Taking these dry ewes to graze the laneways down.
Been working on getting the ewes to walk with the side by side and not run off as soon as they see/hear it.
It’s a work in progress but still progress.
Wyndora ruby and Ramulam kick bring them along whilst I steady the lead along.

Bit of training yesterday, Ramulam Luna out bring the sheep in whilst the rest of the crew looking on.

Forgot to post Naps run in the open from kendenup a few weeks back.
He had a good run that was in the 90’s but right at the put away a couple sheep decided to jump into the back yards which result in lost sheep and no score.

17/07/2023

10.5 month old Ramulam Luna getting some on farm experience shifting this little mob of 150 pregnant ewes.

16/07/2023

Ramulam kicks run in the open.
Again tough sheep and I again decided to retire.
He worked well for me as he always does, I could have maybe pushed through but I’m not a fan of running the dogs and sheep around.

16/07/2023

Next up we had nap in the improver round, whilst he worked well he again got some flighty sheep and decided to retire (video below of naps improver run)
He was also entered in the open where he had a good run on some tricky sheep scoring a 67/100 possible points.
Bit of handler error on my behalf lost us a few points but was still enough to scrape into the open finale.
Nap put another good run on the board scoring 50/100 on some tricky sheep but again at the pen run out of time as I was going for the gate a few more seconds would of had us on a 70/100 a placing.
Overall he placed 9th out of the field of 86 runs in the open.

16/07/2023

Wyndora ruby had her second 3 sheep trial over the weekend entering in the novice and improver.
Her run in the novice was a handy one scoring 60/100 possible points just running out of time at the pen which would have put her on 80/100.
Her run in the improver (video below) she drew a flighty one and being only her second trial decided to retire her.

06/07/2023

This mob of 1200 ewes hadn’t found the gate into there adjoining paddock yet so sent Ramulam Nala out to the right and nap out to the left to muster them up and put them through the gate.
Absolutely love good casting dogs that will break out around all there stock.
These two will be mated together in the future.

Fencing is a good chance to get a young dog out on its own and get that extra bond and work on a few things with out the distractions, purely focusing on you.

Bring in a mob of 680 wethers for trucking tomorrow morning.
I thoroughly enjoy sitting back and letting the dogs work with minimal command just letting there natural instinct drive them.
I also prefer the sheep learning to move off the dogs pressure rather then from the side by side, I find it makes for calmer and more efficient stock handling once they are educated.
Ramulam kick and Wyndora ruby out in the paddock.
