We know all puppies mouth, after all it’s one of the ways they explore.. but there are definitely times where it seems like it’s all they want to do!

👉 Have a look at a few of the reasons why you may see an increase in mouthing.

Having chews, enrichment/toy options and places where you can separate your puppy if needed so they can have some down time will really help you through the sharp teeth phase!

Dogs are dogs …. Surprisingly enough …

How are dogs behave can be frustrating at times but can all be brought down a notch with a little simple training. However it’s important to remember to understand why they do things, why does my greyhound want to chase rabbits? Why does my Staffordshire Bull Terrier want to grab everything ? Or why does my Akita bark all the time? … this is all to do with the breed they are and it’s the same for many dogs so it’s our job to understand that is natural for them to want to do this… they are dogs 🐾🐕 of course this isn’t always appropriate so this is where we can help and coach you into training exercises so that we can help manage and reduce this situations to help us and our dogs.

What can help build your dogs confidence? 🐕

🐾 Teaching something new- this could be a trick, or simply following food into a new position such as lying down. Learning and being rewarded can make our dogs feel good!

🐾 Setting up novel objects in the home and allowing your dog to sniff and explore at their own speed. Or when on a walk you can use food to encourage them to step onto things or climb up and over, giving them a confidence boost!

🐾 Make sure to reward any time your dog has been brave and interacted with something they may not usually, celebrate the small things!

🐾 Being calm and confident ourselves especially when your dog is nervous or unsure can help provide guidance

🐾 Play also makes our dogs feel good, whether that be with a toy by themselves or with you. Starting in an environment they are comfortable in and giving them an outlet for their natural behaviour. When feeling more confident you can then take toy play out and about to help build their confidence in other environments.

Dogs need time and dogs need space 🤍🐾

It can be very frustrating when we ask our dogs to do something & they just don’t listen to us but let’s think of the bigger picture here.

When training out environment can play a big part in our progress for example if you are in the middle of a concert with loud music and lots of distractions would you still be able to do your daily work … or if you was surrounded by clowns would you still be able to do your work? This goes for our dogs too when training.

Take training step by step, give the time and distance they need to progress at a rate they can work at and progress will build 🥰🐶

Rescue or Breeder? Have a look at a few of our pros and cons to both 🐶

There’s no rights or wrongs here and what’s suited to one family may not be for the next.

When getting your new dog the most important thing it to be happy with the route you have chosen and if buying a dog from a breeder do your research and make sure it’s a reputable one 🐾

The body is a huge communication tool for our dogs and it’s how we can learn how we can help them 🐕🐾

When we listen to these signals trust in our relationship bonds stronger and stronger as us and our dogs learn to understand eachother 🤍

Creative rewards! Typically teaching a dog something new with food or toys is much easier however once your dog knows a behaviour you can use other things they like to do to reinforce it.

Have a look at some idea’s and see if you can ask your dog for a behaviour before doing something this week. You’ll be surprised how your dog’s eagerness to respond to you improves!

Using a lead initially in certain situations might help too. For example if I was coming up to the lake and my dog liked to swim I would put them on the lead to ask for my sit before releasing them and unclipping it. This means my dog doesn’t have the chance to race down ahead of me and not listen to the behaviour being asked for first.

🚨 Top 3 recall tips on how to improve your recall!

1. Have a specific recall cue (could be voice or a whistle) and pair this with coming towards you and getting good stuff. Initially your dog could be just in front of you and lots of repetitions of your cue and then the reward are going to help create a reflexive response every time before you even hit the park. Why not use your dogs meal time to call them to you and reward with their dinner! This makes it easier for your dog to distinguish between you just casually saying their name and their ‘special’ recall cue that always equals a massive payout!

2. If you are working on recall and your dog keeps ignoring you to go run off to Bertie in the park or to sniff where that squirrel has been, the environment is basically rewarding your dog for not listening. Go back a stage, pop a long line on and make sure if they don’t respond straight away don’t just keep calling, go over to them and bring them back to you. This could be done by gently holding the collar and guiding them back towards you or shortening your long line. If your dog is closer to you they are more likely to be able to respond.

3. Practise random recalls! It’s not fun for your dog if you only ever call them when you are putting them back on lead or recalling away from something exciting. Make sure to randomly call them, reward and then let them go again every so often on your walks.

There is a huge stigma around dogs in muzzles over the years & we want to change that here at

Muzzles are a preventative measure to use as a tool when we need a little help while we put training we need into place 👏🏼🐕 If your dog eats anything in sight on a walk, chases every squirrel in the park and everything in between muzzles when introduced to your dog can help manage the situation while you putting g training such as teaching a ‘LEAVE’ cue or get a solid recall around distractions and building the skills they need around dogs and with people 🐶👌🏼

Training takes time & we are here to help! 🙌🏼

Focus can be hard to get but when you know how it’s always easier to get the results you want 👏🏼🐶

If we are not interested in something and we have something much more desirable in front of us where do you think you attention will be? … right! So to shift that focus we need to work on matching or being more valuable then the distraction for our dog but increasing our value by rewarding good behaviour, playing games to increase our value to your dog and working with distractions to guide them in the right direction.

DISTRACTIONS AREN’T YOU ENEMY THEY ARE YOU BEST FRIEND IN TRAINING 🐕

Dog play! Many dog owners ask us how to tell when the play with another dog is appropriate or not?

🚨 By observing both dogs body language it can give you clues to whether they are both enjoying the play. Soft bouncy rocking like motions often are seen in play as well as dogs mirroring each other. Any weight shifting away, hiding, wide eyes, snapping or growling (for example) could indicate one dog is uncomfortable.

🐾 Often dogs will have a play and take natural breaks to have a sniff, go to the toilet, check in with their owner. If your dog doesn’t allow the other to do this and continues play with no breaks it may be a sign to intervene.

🗣 If your dog can’t recall away then this could also be an indicator that they may be a little too excited and aim to put some management in place like a long line. If needed then redirect them to a calmer activity such as sniffing out treats in the grass. Practising recalling away and then allowing them to play again can also be a great reward for their recall!

🚩 Remember not every dog wants to play with others and that’s fine!
