Indigenous Dog Health Program - West Gippsland Vet Care A Not-for-profit organisation committed to improving health of dogs and cats in remote communities

We joined the Indigenous Dog Health Program in 2016 to support the Canberra Mob with their program to bring Veterinary Health Care to remote Indigenous Communties. Thank You, Bravecto! 🐾

A huge shoutout to Bravecto for their generous donation to the Indigenous Dog Health Program! 🙌 Your support means the world to our not-for-profit initiative working in remote Indigenous communities.

Bravecto is a lifesaver, literally! It effectively kills fleas, ticks, and mites, which can cause severe health issues for dogs. In remote areas, where vet care is limited, this is a game-changer.

With your help, we can ensure healthier, happier dogs and improve the well-being of the entire community. Our next trip kicks off on 31st August, and we’re ready to make a difference thanks to you, Bravecto! 💚🐶

🌟 Another incredible journey to Utopia and its surrounding areas in August! 🌏 This trip marked a milestone as the first one organized and executed by West Gippsland Vet Care. A heartfelt thank you to our Canberra friends for entrusting us with such a meaningful project.

On this visit, Practice Manager and Nurse Steph, along with Vet Ben, were in charge of the trip. Vet Carla, Nurse Mikayla, and Assistant Manager Leanne (Nicko) were also part of the team. Joining us from Canberra were Vets Bill (who also played a vital role in managing the trip), Clare, and Tim.

During this trip, we were able to make a significant impact by desexing over 80 dogs and cats and providing essential care, including the administration of parasiticides, to countless others. The experience of connecting with remote communities, assisting locals with their pets, and engaging with the inquisitive and wonderful children is always heartwarming.

If you're inspired to support our ongoing efforts and ensure these crucial visits continue, please consider making a donation by following the link. Your generosity makes a difference, and we're immensely grateful for your support! 🐾✨

Here is our long overdue post about the trip earlier this year attended by our vet Chris Vanschyndel and nurse Tayla Sheppard. Chris and Tayla and the rest of the team from Canberra had a fantastic experience and helped out many dogs and cats during their visit.

Recently Dr Ben, Dr Mitch & Practice Manager/Nurse Steph attended a long awaited trip with the program. Due to COVID and the Ehrlichiosis outbreak from last visit there was some catching up to do which resulted in a VERY busy trip. This amazing team did 151 surgeries, mostly desexings, in 7 days! Not to mention delivering countless doses of parasite control.

In May of 2021, Dr Chelsea and Practice Manager and nurse, Steph attended a trip with the Indigenous Dog Health Program. Unfortunately, Ehrlichiosis (a disease spread by ticks) had reached these communities so our focus for this trip was tick treatment, supportive treatment for sick dogs and educating the communities regarding this disease.

WGVC has been sending staff to support this program run by Canberra Mob - Indigenous Dog Health since 2016. It is a very worthy program and we will be stepping up in 2023 to help organise and run some trips. We feel very privilege to be trusted with this role by Dr Alison Taylor and Dr Michael Archinal and look forward to many future trips to continue this important program.

This group is not-for-profit and rely on donations, sponsorship and fundraisers.
