Pals for Pooches closed down on January 15, 2018. The dogs in this album were adopted from us over the years, and their families have sent us photo updates. If you'd like to be included, please send us your updates and we will add them to this album. This album provides us with a nice place where we can remember all of the wonderful dogs who have passed through our rescue. Thank you all for adopting!

It’s a sad day for us with Pals for Pooches. After 19 years rescuing dogs in the greater Houston area, we have closed our metaphorical doors. We are thankful to everyone who has supported the rescue since its inception in 1999, and all those who have made a PFP dog a member of your family. While it is a sad day for us, it is also one of hope and energy as we become part of A Chance to Bloom dog rescue in Conroe, TX. [www.achancetobloom.org] We have actively been working behind the scenes to introduce our dogs and their foster parents to CTB, and you will soon see them appear for adoption through that rescue. They have welcomed us and our dogs, and have provided our fosters and volunteers with an injection of energy that is a necessary part of any animal rescuers life. We love the enthusiasm and passion that those in CTB have for their dogs, and in finding their dogs the best homes. We hope that you take the opportunity to visit their webpage and see what they are all about. Currently you will find several of our pfp foster parents now fostering dogs through them (Shadow and Buddy are now in their program). Again, there aren’t the right words to express how thankful we are to all of our fosters, volunteers, adopters and supporters over the years. We would not have made it this long without each and every one of you. If you wish, please continue to share updates of your pfp dogs, and we will include them in our Adoption Updates Album. Feel free to post in the comments.

Please note that we will keep this page active for a month or two, but after that we will likely archive the page. For those previous adopters who at any chance in the future need to contact us, please try contacting CTB and they might be able to put you in contact with your dogs original foster. All of our remaining funds, materials and supplies will transfer to CTB. If you have fundraised for us through Kroger, AmazonSmile, or any other program, please consider supporting A Chance to Bloom. We have contacted some of these programs to delete us as an option, but unfortunately not all have responded. As mentioned before, this page will remain open for another month or two, but we will no longer be doing adoptions or intaking new dogs. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us here on the fb page.

As always, keep on rescuing, fostering, adopting, volunteering, and being proud dog rescuers and adopters!

Thank you from all of us,

Genie, Deby, Wendy, Steffanie, Deborah, Donna, and Robyn

Pebbles

15/01/2018

The best place for your pets is where they are warm, dry, and secure. Please bring them inside!

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across Southeast Texas from late tonight through Tuesday night. Rain is expected to transition to a wintry mix up north early Tuesday and further southward during the day on Tuesday. Driving could become hazardous here in Precinct 4 and throughout Harris County.

We are on board with this resolution! Happy New Year!

The freezing cold temperatures that we are about to be experiencing will be dangerous to most dogs. Make sure they have shelter that is warm and dry! Now is not the time to have your pet go missing, so make sure they always have collar with identification tags. With the fireworks that are inevitably coming to many neighborhoods, many dogs will get spooked. Please help your pets stay safe by preparing ahead of time.

I don’t know about y’all, but my dogs hate any temperature below 60, so they will be safe and warm inside by the fire!

HOUSTON, TEXAS! I stopped by to spend some quality time with my friend Shadow this morning. Shadow is going to make someone very happy someday, as he is an absolute love! And by that, he wants to be your best friend, and snuggle with you. He LOVES affection, and giving kisses and hugs. Shadow is very active, and needs a life where he’ll get to run around and play, and play some more. A home with other dogs who also want to play is ideal. Once you meet him in person, you’ll see his Labrador Retriever side in full force! He many not have a lab face, but he definitely has the personality. Do you know of someone looking to adopt such a dog? Shadow is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and is 1 year old.

If interested, please contact us at [email protected]

MESSAGE TO OUR ADOPTERS, SUPPORTERS, LOYAL FOLLOWERS, and COMMUNITY: It is with heartfelt regrets that we must inform you that after 18 years rescuing dogs in the greater Houston area, Pals for Pooches will be closing down on January 15, 2018. Please be aware that this was not an easy decision. Unfortunately Harvey hit our rescue group hard, and all of us in the small band of dedicated rescuers that make up Pals for Pooches have had to shift focus to work and family priorities, making it more difficult to network the dogs in our care. Most of us have full time jobs and, as many in the rescue community know, Harvey was the straw that broke the camel’s back. We quietly closed our intake in October. Therefore, in the best interest of the dogs we are currently caring for and their foster parents, we will work to find them fantastic homes before we close, we will not reduce our standards to get a fast adoption as we will still work to find every dog the appropriate home for them. If not adopted by our closing date, we have reached an agreement with another local rescue, A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue in Conroe, who will take in all of our dogs and their foster parents. Any remaining funds, supplies or materials will go with the dogs to the rescue. As individuals, we will not be leaving the rescue community, but will continue on as fosters/volunteers for other rescues. As you know, being a dog rescuer is a passion that never leaves you, and as all of us in Houston know, the need has never been greater. We would like to thank all of you that have adopted from us, volunteered with us, fostered with us, networked for us, donated to us, and in general supported us through all the years. There are thousands of dogs out there who we are happy to call Pals for Pooches alumni.

Over the next month, we will be networking the dogs we are actively working to find loving and permanent homes. If you could help us in sharing their posts, and telling your friends we would very much appreciate it. They are ALL deserving of wonderful families to love them forever. If you have any questions or comments, please email us at [email protected].

ADOPTED 12/3/2017!!

Let’s play a game! It’s called, guess adoptable puppy Ozzy’s breed! 🐶 You see, we have some guesses of our own, but we just don’t know. He was dumped a little over a month ago at a local park, so we don’t know his parentage. Clearly he’s a mixed breed. At just 3 months old, he’s only 6 pounds and we don’t think he’ll grow to more than 20 pounds. Foster mom says he’s very soft, and very playful. Any ideas?

By the way, he’s available for adoption! Looking for a home with a least one other dog for him to play with! Contact us at [email protected] if interested.

Shadow: An Adoptable Dog in Humble, TX

Now with A Chance to Bloom: HOUSTON, TEXAS: Short video of Shadow playing with his foster siblings. He loves to play, is very gentle with his toys, and clearly loves to play with dogs of all sizes. He doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body, even when he wants the toy but the little one stole it and hid it under the table! Shadow is 1 year old and ready for his fur-ever family. Is that you? Please contact us if interested in adopting Shadow. To learn more about him, follow his link: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/37705755

ADOPTED!

INTRODUCING ... OZZY!

HOUSTON, TX: Ozzy is an 11 week old spaniel mix who was found dumped at a local park with his sister. Ozzy is a typical puppy in that he wants to play! He will hop around like a little bunny and make this cute little barking noise to get your attention. He loves small fuzzy toys, bones, socks, shoes, really anything he can get his paws on. He can often be found curled up in his foster parents closet, and asleep on their clothes. He will find a stray sock and run off with it and then play tug-o-war with you when you try to retrieve it. And with just a little tickle of his tummy, he will play fight your perceivably giant spider-hand until the threat has been disarmed. After an exhausting round of play he will curl up and sleep. It’s so exhausting to be a puppy. Ozzy has 5 foster siblings and is constantly trying to encourage them to play with him, he would love a home with other dogs who want to play too!

Ozzy is not a fan of the kennel or crate, especially when alone. He does ok if another dog is kenneled with him, but we'd love to find a home that doesn't require him to be kenneled. Ozzy is only 2 months old, but uses his potty pads regularly, and at night will bark for you to let him outside to p*e. His bladder is small, so he will need to be taken outside frequently to potty. He sleeps on his dog bed, alongside his foster parents. He really doesn't like to be alone, so a home with another dog or constant companion is important.

Ozzy weighs 5.5 pounds, and we don't think he will get much bigger than 25 pounds fully grown. He is too young for neuter, but PfP will cover the surgery when he is old enough if adopted before that. Ozzy is looking for an adopter that recognizes that he will grow up into a dog that needs a forever family, is that you? If so, please contact us! www.palsforpooches.org or [email protected]

ADOPTED!

HOUSTON, TEXAS! Little Rusty here is still waiting for a human of his very own. As much as his foster mom loves him, she has 5 personal dogs of her own and 6 is just too much and not fair to any of them. Rusty weighs in at 6 pounds and is at least 1 year old according to the vet. We think he is a Chihuahua & Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie mix, but what we know is that he is a playful and snuggly little love. He'd make a wonderful companion to someone who wants to be able to carry their little love around with them. He loves playing with other dogs! Please help us find Rusty his forever home by sharing this post!

You’ve worked hard to make them healthy and happy, and ready to join families of their very own. Let’s show potential adopters how wonderful your foster dogs are and how deserving they are to be adopted by loving dog lovers!

Shadow is patiently waiting for an awesome adopter to make him a member of the family! He is a total sweetheart and so playful. Just wants humans to love him and other dogs to play with him. If interested, contact us at [email protected]

HOUSTON, TEXAS! Little Rusty went for his most recent vet visit and the vet says that Rusty is at least a year old (not the 8 months we originally thought), and a Chorkie (Chihuahua-yorkie mix). He currently weighs 6.9 pounds and is a healthy and playful little guy. He loves spending time with humans, is good with kids, and likes playing and lounging around with the other dogs in the home. If you’re interested in learning more or adopting Rusty, please contact us!
