“Math.” He said, “math”

I was leaning over onto a table where I stood writing an algebra equation so I could obtain the proper dose of medicine for one of my birds. I had long ago learned that rabbit and avian doses are very similar with the results.

Pumpkinhead had said, “math.“ He had said what he observed me doing. I have always had taught him according to the model/rival method of Dr. Irene PepperBerg. Now he was identifying modes of thinking in his environment.

I began to think about sharing this information with other people, and finding myself very skeptical that an audience existed yet who could appreciate this.

It was the beginning of an enlightenment.

***Feathered Miracle:
More Human Than Human
It’s written about birds.

“Anthropomorphism is a theory which presupposes it’s own validity.“
— Donald R. Griffin, Animal Minds

“This business of killing & eating is a sin in terms of ethical judgment all of the time & is the reason religion was created in the first place.“
— Joseph Campbell, Power of Myth

“The ethic of Reverence for Life prompts us to keep each other alert to what troubles us and to speak and act dauntlessly together in discharging the responsibility that we feel. It keeps us watching together for opportunities to bring some sort of help to animals in recompense for the great misery that men inflict upon them, and thus for a moment we escape from the incomprehensible horror of existence.”
— Albert Schweitzer, in his Nobel Prize-winning philosophy, “Reverence for Life,” 1959
