For me, the 'stay' command is telling my dog that I'd like her to stay fixed in one spot until I return to her, hold her collar or put her back on the lead. The 'wait' command means that I would like my dog to wait in a fixed spot until I give her the next command. This ensures that if I need her to stay in one spot in an emergency situation, she is less likely to break her stay by pre-empting another command.

Does your dog have a 100% successful recall rate?
My 3 top tips for teaching recall are:
1. Use your dogs favourite food or toy as a bribe! Be more exciting than everything in their environment
2. Don't set your dog up to fail - If they can't come back to you in the house and garden, they most definitely wont when they're on a walk
3. Do not use their name as the command to come back to you. Their name should be to get their attention - chose a word like 'come' or 'here' to ask them to return to you.

Comment how your dog does with the recall!

Tigger is enjoying her licki mat with frozen yoghurt. Enrichment is important for dogs and licking has a calming effect on dogs. What is your dogs favourite enrichment?

Muzzle training can be beneficial for both you and your dog. however, what I am not saying is to put a muzzle on and not do any training. These two things should go hand in hand.

Couldn't not share this, like if you agree! We expect a lot from our dogs and puppies but don't forget they don't speak our language. Before getting frustrated that they are not learning something ask yourself if you're being clear in your communication.

If you've got a poofy pup this might be the post for you... When getting a puppy it is important to consider if you think they may need a trip to the groomers when they're older. If there's a chance they will then it is best to get them booked in young so they can have time to learn that it's not a scary place!

With the UK now entering the second lockdown I thought it was important to share this. Dogs suffer mentally too! I have noticed recently that Tigger has become more needy, most likely due to her being so used to having company. Try and encourage your dog to be left alone for a period of time each day and where possible try to introduce your dog to new people and dogs (even if it is at a distance!).
