We are a Volunteer run, 501c3 non-profit foster-based Dog rescue in Kingwood, TX without a shelter Twyla's Friends is a 501(3)(c) charity organization.

Our mission is to help abandoned and rescued dogs in our community through veterinary assistance and help with placement in permanent homes. Twyla's Friends is a volunteer organization with no shelter or kennel facilities. All donations are used to help pay veterinary expenses for dogs in immediate need.

Check our newest intake: “Lexi” is a 1 yr old Irish Wolfhound/Mastiff mix girl who was rescued from a neglectful situation by a Good Samaritan and is now healthy enough to find her furever home. Lexi is XL sized and a little shy, so she needs a handler who can work with that. She is so sweet it hurts your teeth and loves other dogs, people and kids and even gets along with cats. Pearl! Our gorgeous Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix girl is still looking for her home. Trial separation for her sister is going very well, so she doesn’t need to be adopted together with Ruby, but does need at least one other dog in the house with her. Oh, and a solid fence, this girl is a Houdini!! Snuggly and playful, she is pretty easy! She also has her own personal Amazon Wishlist, link in BIO. As Bambi 💗💗approaches his one year mark of being under our care… he would like to ask everyone to stay tuned for holiday fundraising for our rescue. Ruby update: as her and her sister are still with us, we asked ourselves if they are truly a bonded pair, so we trial separated them - Ruby went to stay with one of her previous fosters and their dogs, so familiar people and dogs - and both Ruby and Pearl are doing fabulous! They still each love company of other dogs and will play and snuggle, but they can each be adopted separately! So: Ruby is looking for a home with at least one other dog of similar size and temperament, and most importantly and very VERY securely fenced in yard. She can handle regular working hours but needs attention around those as well as careful attention around open front doors. Her and her sisters are Houdinis! You know who's had all three sets of vaccines? Rufus! He is growing leaps and bounds and is ready to find his furever home. Rufus is still very much all puppy meaning he loves to play, has razor sharp puppy teeth, is getting familiar with the word "No" when he's mistaking his caretakers for chew toys and promptly gets presented with a chew toy. He likes playing with the other dogs and is starting to show headstrong behavior with the smaller dogs, so bigger playmates would be ideal. He can't "hold it" for the length of a regular out of the house working day, so stay/work at home or mid-day outlet considerations until he's old enough are vital.
Rufus is now 21 weeks/5 months old and just under 25 lbs, so he's not going to grow into a full Doberman size, but rather likely top out around 40-45 lbs.

Rufus has a neuter appointment in December, he is ready to go to a new home under a puppy contract, meaning he'd be foster to adopt until after the neuter is complete.

OH. MY. GOSH! Check out this puppy one of our fosters just rescued, isn’t he the cutest? Found on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere a week ago, “Rufus” was skin and bones, and look at him now! Vet estimates him at 6 weeks old and a Doberman pup, he’s all legs and feet and razor sharp puppy teeth! Going for his first vaccines next week, now that he has gained some weight and will be looking for a new home before too long. Stay tuned! And no, he’s not permanently outside of course, this is his private fenced in outside yard where we gave him some new toys before taking him back inside for his mid morning nap. #adoptdontshop #rescuedogsrock #bigfootpuppy

Ladybug Beach time

Another successful and fun beach trip with Ladybug. “Le bug” enjoyed the beach, the water, the people that came up to pet her. She wasn’t a fan of going deep into the water (“Mom, I have little legs and likely won’t float….”) Ladybug is still looking for her furever home:

Bambi is prancing these days! Check out his video of Bambi getting a meal!! He is learning how to carry his tail higher. It used to be very limp and just hang motionless. He is gaining control of it and learning how to put it up in the air and slightly wag it. He has also learned how to play with toys in the last few days!! Go Bambi go!!
