Our next set of parents Charlie and Nooooodle were introduced to each other on Sunday, and last night we found them quickly getting to know each other!!!

Hopefully this means we will have more babies right around the corner!

Charlie is a leucistic, and Noooooodle is a golden albino with some beautiful sparkles ✨ we are expecting some beautiful babies!

And just like that, our babies are all off to new homes (or pending pickup) except 1!

This wild has great coloring, but was a bit smaller than some of it’s siblings. It’s two front legs became a snack unfortunately but seem to be growing back well (this is totally normal as they are figuring out what to and not to eat. The limbs will fully grow back over time)!

With that said, we are hoping to find one last home for this sweet one before we leave for our honeymoon next week. We are discounting his cost to $25!!!

Please message me to secure pickup before someone snags him!!!

Below is a quick Axolotl Care Guide

Tank Setup:
A good rule of thumb is 10 gallons per axolotl. The bigger the tank, the easier it is to maintain a stable water quality. As axolotls prefer to stay on the bottom of the tank, longer tanks are better than taller tanks as it gives the axolotl more room to move around. When filling your tank use dechlorinated fresh water. The tank should be filtered with a filtration system that doesn’t cause a strong water flow. Our preference of filter is to use a sponge filter attached to a bubbler.

Decoration can be real or fake plants. When choosing a hide for your axolotl, ensure that it is smooth. If any decorations are sharp there is a chance that the axolotl will hurt itself. Do NOT use gravel as axolotls can swallow bits of gravel.

Diet:
Baby axolotls love to eat baby brine shrimp, daphnia, blackworms, blood worms and pellets. Axolotls are opportunistic feeders, so it’s recommended to place the food near them. When they are little it is recommended to feed them daily. As they get bigger you can start spacing feedings. Around 5 inches, you can be fine with feeding them as little as twice a week (as long as its bigger quantities than when they were babies).

Maintenance:
It is recommended to do about a 20% water change every 2 to 3 weeks. In addition, remove any uneaten food and waste as it helps maintain the appropriate water quality. Check water parameters and check for any abrasions as an axolotl’s skin is very delicate.

Water Quality:
Axolotls will thrive best in soft water with a neutral to slightly basic pH (7-7.6). Water should be dechlorinated with water conditions that don’t have aloe or other slime coat additives. Try to keep ammonia and nitrite levels as low as possible. Water temperature should be kept between 60-68 degrees Fahrenheit.

Additional Tips:
Live plants help in filtering the water. A turkey baster is a great tool to help with maintenance, as it allows for spot cleaning of food and waste. Keeping your tank out of sunlight will help keep the cooler temperatures needed.

Yesterday’s show was a huge success! It was great to be able to meet so many awesome families and curious kids! 12 of our Axolotls went to their forever homes and found new waters.

A reoccurring statement yesterday (other than “omg I thought these were fake”) was how hard they are to care for, and that simply isn’t true!

Stay tuned this week for a informative care taking tutorial. If your considering one of these babies as a pet, you won’t want to miss it!!!
