My vegetable "garden" was a hit or miss this year!
I'll admit I don't have a knack for outdoor plants. I'm fabulous with indoor ones, but outdoor always die on me. This year I created a little 3x3 cinderblock garden since our yard is under construction and I can't make anything permanent quite yet.
Well like always, some plants died and others thrived. My tomato plant went CRAZY! But sadly my zucchini got beat up by the wind early on and never recovered. My pepper is doing good but no flowers so far.
Anyway, whether I got food from it or not it's still lush and green! So here's Minnie standing in the garden for a nice portrait.

Man these days are HOT! We're hitting 100 three days in a row here. But guess who's soaking it all up? Ameoba!
Being a leopard gecko she's accustomed to heat like this. In fact she's been super active lately and spending a lot of time coming out and hanging out in the window sill.
Anyone else with reptiles loving the Summer heat? My skink is too for sure. The mourning geckos not so much...

The glow you get when on vacation
On the flipside now that we're home Olive and Minnie are KNOCKED OUT. Haha They love camping but man does it wear them out. I also did the right photographer thing and took pictures at "golden hour".
I usually take pictures anytime of day but since we were somewhere unique I wanted everything perfect. And what do you know I get this amazing shot of Olive! More to come as I post others this week :)

Kribby ready to take someone down (mainly me)
This is my crawdad! Although he is not a crab I still affectionately call him Kribby. He's my favorite aquatic pet to own because he's not shy and has quite the personality. Hes also pretty fun to feed.
Right now I have Kribby home for the Summer because I just couldn't risk leaving him at school for the Summer. In fact, I think he's enjoying his vacation here because he likes to posture at me whenever I'm near. Someone is a little too comfortable.

Today we discuss alternatives to fireworks!
Again it's not too late to change plans and ditch those fireworks this year and every year! I'd first like to say that you should always go to your cities firework shows if you MUST celebrate with fireworks. City shows are planned, controlled, safer, and usually more impressive than something at home.
But this year I'm sure city celebration plans have changed due to the pandemic and safety. For this reason I worry a lot if people will take their celebrations to their backyards. So if you are going to celebrate try these alternatives instead! These alternatives are legal and MUCH SAFER. And guess what? They're still fun!

Summer chic and looking sharp!
As cool as Olive may look she's a little worried deep down. She may not realize but today is July 1st and that means we could have fireworks for the next few days.
Olive isn't the only dog, pet, or person who gets scared. If possible don't light fireworks at all! We'll be sharing alternatives tomorrow. But today we'd like to share ways to prepare your dog for the inevitable, because not everyone is as kind about loud noises and fire hazards

Olive's Ark 》》 Pets in a Pawd !!!!
Did you do a double take on today's post? Surprise! We've "rebranded" ourselves! So what does this mean?
Our content will pretty much all stay the same. There might be an extra post of one of my other pets here and there, but Olive and Minnie will always be my top two instagram models
So why the change? The name Olive's Ark was causing a few minor problems on my end. Firstly the name Olive implied this was "her" instagram and not mine for ALL of my pets. The new name is more inclusive for everyone. Secondly, the apostrophe in the name was a pain to deal with when dealing with websites and logins and such. The new name doesn't deal with punctuation
We also think this name is super cute! And our new logo is our favorite yet! We plan on keeping this name forever. So welcome the new and improved Pets in a Pawd!

What ❗ looks like in real life
I threw a treat at Olive hoping to get some interesting looks for our little photo session. This one just makes me laugh so much. It reminds me of that surprise sound youtube always use haha

Neighhh! The weekend has arrived!
The rescue I volunteer at is located on a ranch. There's a few horses and some other animals I see often when I go there. Most of the time the horses are in a different area than me but last time they were out in a different pasture!
The horses are very friendly and although I came up to give them a pet they were way more interested in the grasses.
Is anyone here a horse lover? What breed do you think these guys are?

You know, for a pugxchihuahua you like water a little too much
Does anyone else have weird water loving dogs? I just find it so funny that Olive is a mix of two breeds that aren't keen on swimming, yet here she is standing in a waterfall with no issues.
She also will play fetch in the pool! She loves diving in and grabbing her tennis ball. Maybe I don't have a pug? 100% Retreiver confirmed

Olive sure looks a little funny in these photos....
The fiancé and I went to a wildlife sanctuary park! By far this is my favorite place to go above zoos and aquariums. This place keeps their animals in SUPER large pens. So large that the entire property is something like 500 acres. The animals spend their life freeroaming and guests can take jeep rides into the pens with them!
Also they're huge on conservation so they have a lot of breeding projects. For example their three white rhinos are there in hopes that they can help build back rhino populations. Yay!

The outdoors always puts a smile on Olive's face
Today has been a busy day! Mostly stuff to do with my work, but I did drop Minnie off for a grooming appointment. I really just needed her nails trimmed but they aren't doing al la carte services at the moment.
I'm glad she did do the full spa day experience though! She came out so soft and pretty. Her fur even smelled like vanilla! She sure was happy to get out of there though. She's now taking a well deserved nap on the couch.

We went exploring!
Yesterday we went out to some woods! They weren't super dense but it was fun to walk around and explore the nature. Olive went crazy when we got there and couldn't contain herself.
Minnie had her nose to the ground the whole time and I swear smelled every inch of the area. It makes me so jealous I want to move to a nice dense forest and relax forever. 🌲🌲

Yesterday was the 27th anniversary of Jurassic Park, so here's a living raptor 🦖
Last week you voted for a rabbit video, which means this week I release the reptile video! Meet the Green Keel Bellied lizard! In this week's video I go over basic care of these guys.
If you love dinosaurs you'll love these lizards. Honestly they're one of my favorites to own. I actually own two, named Acro and Ada! Which fun fact, is named after Acrocanthosaurus and Adasaurus which are both super cool dinosaurs. Yay!

Sisters, through and through
Olive doesn't have a lot of doggy friends. Before Minnie only had one! When I adopted Minnie I liked her not only for myself but as a companion to Olive. Now I'm not sure what Olive would do without her! (Honestly, she'd finally get some peace and quiet haha)

Minnie hoping I overflow the kibble so she can eat whatever spills out 🤣
A little update on Minnie. She's been more or less sick lately. A week ago she received some vaccines and since then her whole digestive system has been off balance.
I took her in for an xray and the good news is everything looks normal, but she's still having some issues with the bathroom. For this reason I think it's time I start homecooking their food again. I used to all of the time but stopped due to a busy schedule. However, I don't trust pre-made food right now because of her health issues. So just know, you might be seeing some doggy cooking shows from me in the near future as I get the kitchen fired up again!

Olive just wants to be surrounded by fun!
I've been holding onto this photo waiting for the right moment to post it. I think today feels like a good day for that. To be honest it's not my favorite picture of Olive but it's one of my favorite in general! I love how bright and fun it looks.

Today's video is up!

Pellets get a bad rap, and for no real reason! I just wanted to share my thoughts and some of the realities of pellets versus other food options for rabbits.

Spend time among the flowers. Use their beauty as an inspiration for what the world can be one day.
To lighten the mood I just wanted to share some good/cool things that are happening! To start, I think I'm growing as a photographer! Some things I've been learning is how to shoot with MANUAL settings. My gosh has my photos taken a turn! I also learned about things like bokeh (like in this photo).
But I'm also starting to see things I can change. Like when I took this photo last week I thought it was great, but today I look at it and wonder why I took it at an angle? Critiquing myself is really helping me grow.
And my number one support has been ! She's AMAZING at what she does and is so accessible too! I've reached out to her a couple times and she's always available. A lot of times pros are hard to contact or intimidating to talk to but I love Jess! If you're looking for photography advice check her out!

This sounds too good to be true! A whole day just about Olive? How special is this? Everyone must have decorations with Olive on them and eat food that Olive likes, which is turkey by the way. And then a nap must be taken on Olive Day! And to finish it off a walk in the park.

This was an impromptu picture that I happened to take in between more serious shots but I LOVE it. It's funny because Minnie is a very hyper and generally outspoken dog. But sometimes I catch her between these moments and she becomes the most peaceful baby to ever live

Amoeba soaking up those rays (through the window). This window is near her cage and she loves to come out and patrol around the sill.
If you didn't know things like this are good for some reptiles. Taking them out and letting them explore a new space is stimulating for them, which means fun in reptile language.

It's pool time!

Our weekly video is up and this time it's a fun little video of Olive and Minnie playing in their new pool. I think their favorite part was just standing in the cool water while soaking up the warm Summer air.

Pool is here! And just in time too.
We're actually in the middle of a heat wave and so grateful the pool came when it did. The dogs are having a blast getting wet and then racing around the yard. Minnie also likes just standing in the water and having me massage her haha!

A little more from yesterday!

The sidewalk is always hotter than it seems! Always check with your own hand or foot before taking your dog for a walk.

And if your dogs like to lay out in the sun, out a towel down for them so there's something more comfortable to lay on.

Provide areas of shade as well so they have a a way to get out of direct heat. If you don't have trees or a canopy for shade, put up an umbrella!
