A bittersweet post from me! The time has come for me to move on from Proud Paws to a new adventure! 🐩🐩
Over the last few years I have been honoured to take care of your dogs and become friends with so many of you ❤
I'm delighted to say I will soon be styling at the beautiful Fur's Best Friend Luxury Dog Spa and Daycare in Ballsbridge. (01-525-2840)
You are of course all welcome to follow me there and have your dogs enjoy the absolute pinacle of doggy relaxation and care. Trust that I truly believe in the great experience your puppy will have. When booking just ask for Dermot 😉

Finally a Merry Christmas for an exhausted dog groomer and his own neglected, overgrown poodle. Lost my sanity around the 18th December. Hi everyone. Im just back from a few days off and I was forbidden from bringing the work phone away with me so apologies to anyone left waiting but the break was truly needed!
I was dropping this beautiful boy back to the UK. Rafa the poodle stayed with me for the summer while we campaigned him to his Irish Champion title! Many of you know him from barking at you as you walked up the driveway. He is truly not sorry about it 😛

Back to business and I am booked up for the next 2 weeks. Please allow some time as always for an app and prebook.
Also I will still not be taking new clients at the time.

Hi guys just a quick note about bookings at the moment.
I am fully booked for August at the moment and will NOT be taking any new customers.
I have always advised prebooking apps and if you havent prebooked then Ive always said to give me 2 weeks notice.
Yes its hot. But no, I cant fit in your dog today...

I understand your pups may be suffering a bit in the heat but this heatwave will pass. Keep them cool. Keep them hydrated. There is very little I can do in a grooming session, even if I take them bald, that will make the heat much more tolerable for them.

Also the fact remains that this week it is just too hot to work safely. Luckily it coincided with a rare few days off for me, had I dogs booked in I would have had to cancel them. The risk of heatstroke is just too great.
Your dog wont die from missing a grooming appointment. But it could die in the hands of an unwise groomer who doesnt stick to canine safety standards.

The reality of doodles! Be sure you are willing to invest the time and money!

Did you know the average grooming bill for doodle breed could be around £585 annually?
Please consider this when you are selecting a dog.
Matting is not always obvious.
It's advisable to brush and then comb the coat so you are not brushing over the problem matting.
Doodles have one of the most challenging coat types and are usually first time dog owners choice due to the 'hypoallergenic' nature of the hair. Every dog moults. The difference is wool coats shedding stays within the coat, hence the need for extensive brushing. This explains the matting. Please ask us for free advice and book your dog in at regular 4 to 6 week intervals if you want to keep a long style.

A very proud day as I gain my title of Mastercraftsman of Professional Dog Grooming, Health, Welfare and Business Management (OCNNI Lvl 4/5) accredited by the International Animal Care College.

When lockdown struck I decided to try make the most of my time and continue my education in the industry I am so passionate about.
It means a lot to be a part of a small but elite bunch to gain this high level qualification in Ireland and its another step toward my goals of training other groomers and helping create a positive, education-based grooming industry.

With the announcement of several more weeks of level 5 lockdown I have had to make a decision about what is best for my clients and my business.

There was been debate for almost a year about whether dog grooming is considered an essential service. While its insulting to our industry that this is even a topic for debate, most of us have played our part and shut when asked. It's been difficult to see the big brand pet shops stay open for grooming with no issue, even when they are more of at risk of spreading the virus than the local isolated grooming business. Supermarkets are heaving with people while the independent business who can safely manage numbers is closed and suffering. Anyone with a long haired dog will confirm, dog grooming is essential not only for the animals physical welfare, but their mental and social development.

To this day there is no official answer to our queries about opening, with the response changing drastically depending on who answers your call or email.
However, since the first lockdown almost a year ago, my insurance provider has covered me to remain open as long as I adhered to covid guidlines and distancing. Why did I close then? To do my civic duty and play my part to suppress the virus.

All dog groomers have been authorised to perform "welfare grooms", ie; grooms where the dogs health and condition are a concern. With several more weeks of lockdown ahead of us, I fear most of my clients will soon be considered welfare cases.
This concern, coupled with the fact that most of my fellow groomers in the area have reopened (or indeed never closed in some cases) has left me with no option but to reopen for my coated clients on March 1st.

To be perfectly clear, it will NOT be business as usual. I will only be taking dogs who genuinely need the grooming, no labradors, staffies, short coats for the time being. There will be no "nails only" appointments and there will be social distancing measures in place. There will also be a strict mask wearing policy upon drop off/collection and if anyone in your household is ill, I would ask you to reschedule as I will be extending the same courtesy and rescheduling if I feel ill. I will only be accepting dogs within the 5km radius and all leads etc will be disinfected before collection.

As we move forward and try to find ways to live in the current situation I want you all to know I am committed to doing my part to help control this pandemic. I am taking all necessary steps to open safely for the wellbeing of my clients, myself and my family. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact me.
