Live draft horses going to Japan for slaughter

Something alarming I encountered a few weeks ago.
These Horses are exported live to Japan for sushi. ( not thoroughbreds )
An article I stumbled across stated they pay 2800 a head, but in what currency I can't recall.

Just last year the Australian government and Ag Department stated they were under intense pressure to legalize live exporting Aussie horses.

The Chinese were pushing for this, as they are in high demand for donkey skin for Chinese medicine.
Instead the Chinese companies opted to set up a donkey farm in the NT to harvest their skins in Australia and export to China.
Upon further research turns out Western Australia and NT have a history of live exporting horses.

Thoroughbreds will always have my heart, but a life is a life 🤷‍♀️

Stumbled across a similar article this morning.
Naturally people advocating for horse welfare would be in uproar at any horse racing over 40 degrees.

BUT did they actually read the article ?
First race starts at 5pm when the temperature is due to drop to low 30s.
Trainers are not pressured to run their horses, unless that comes from shareholders or owners as far as I'm aware.
In fact we spoke to one this morning who had scratched his.

We have sad news regarding the mares sold from camden.

Upon contact with the original owner, it came to light that the fire story was simply a plot to raise the price on the mares and get more buyers in 😞 We believe today they were slaughtered and are now in a chiller.

In my conversations with camden last week regarding the mares, it was stated by the sale yard that no thoroughbreds are permitted by law to enter the sale yard.
Thoroughbreds are only permitted by NSW Racing authorities to be sold via 2 companies - bloodstock companies.

LR114 (5) Australian Rules of Racing 64JA (1) states " Where a desicion has been made to retire a horse, or not to commence racing an Eligible horse, and that horse has been domiciled in New South Wales for the majority of its life

(E) The horse is not to be directly or indirectly
Sent to a abbotoir, knackery or similarly disposed of.

Any registered participant found to have committed a breach will be penalised.

Yet it was brought to the attention of Racing NSW after the law was passed..

The story of a 2yo one eyed Bay mare..Lily. Affectionately named by the trainer who desperately tried every angle to rescue her after she was purchased by a Fitzgerald Pastoral Co.
It turns out the owner of Fitzgerald Pastoral Co is also Owner of Burns pet meat in NSW.
You can see below that the company also purchases via online bloodstock auctions.

Burns pet meat has been charged with cruelty in the past - upon attendance of RSPCA, and recently had restrictions put in place regarding numbers of animals permitted at the facility.
They also euthanized numerous animals within minutes of arriving at Burns Pet Meat stating the animals would have been suffering horrendously ( example - missing half a face ) for over a month.

Here at the organization we realise the need for slaughter, but in a humane way that complies with welfare regulations.
We also understand Racing NSW cannot oversee everything at this stage and applaud the measures that are in place.

Warnambool 15/12/19 Thoroughbreds

Our bid was on pen 104, told they had a reserve of 1k after we placed our 600 bid - we were assured private homes would be considered but owner passed it in.

Praise the Lord for reserves 🙌 no dogger is paying 1k for a horse.

Sadly, riding pony Colts were sold for $100 and some of these tbs went as low as 300 😞

Looking forward to a new year where we can do more

We are desperate to find the original owners of these mares.
They were purchased and guaranteed safety but the dogger sent them to meramist anyway and kept the $$ paid for their release.

We have been inundated with msgs saying a D hill owned one and she says she did not.

Please share this far and wide so we can get these mares released into their new homes.

They are Aussie stockhorses sold from camden with multiple foals at foot.
Regardless of the breed the admins morals remain the same. And this is outrageous.

The original owner/ owners are not in any trouble, we just need your help to free the girls !

SHEPP Meats Exposed

Heartbreaking

This story will break your heart.

At Camden Sales last Wednesday there were 2 mares with 5 foals between them from the fire ravaged north coast. These mares adopted the 3 orphan foals after their mums perished in the fires.

A dogger purchased the 2 mares. The foals sold to a private buyer for $20 each
. watch as they run his horses out, they had to pass the foals and the mare stopped and didn’t want to leave her 3 but was forced onto the truck.
"The foals of course were quite distraught...
Honestly after watching it , I’ve cried every time I think of it. It's haunting me”

Humans always lay claim to being the superior species. It is said that empathy, compassion, kindness are all hallmarks of humanity.

These qualities are exemplified by the horses here in stark contrast to the brutality of the humans ripping apart their bonds for the sake of a few measly dollars.
