I’ve been really quiet on my social pages, and honestly it’s because I desperately needed a mental health break. I took a brief vacation in August and realized that I wasn’t considering time for myself.

In the last month or so, I’ve added to my team on both human side and pet side. On the human side, some of you may have met additional care takers for pet sitting! As more training requests come in, the pet sitting component will be handled by my sister and my mom, who both love animals, have experience, and will be getting a post all to themselves later! Of course, if your dog or cat is a behavior case and requires a bit more help, I’ll be working with your pet instead. 💚

On the office work side, in the next few months, we will be bringing in another assistant to make sure emailed recaps gi out on time and messages are answered.

There’s a lot of exciting things in development, and I’m so excited to share them with you in the up coming weeks.

I’ve been pretty quiet on here because of how busy things have been and how many new faces I’ve welcomed into training programs!! I’m beyond thrilled to work with these dogs, ranging from brand new babies (Dolores, the cute frenchie in the first two pics) to older dogs that are still so adorable it hurts. These isn’t even all of the new, happy faces I’ve seen recently.

I’ll be taking a vacation starting august 15th, and after I return, I hope to go back to posting regularly.

I learned a lot about cooperative care and I can’t wait to implement it both in my own pets, and with clients 💚 Vet visits don’t have take a huge emotional toll on you or your dogs!

Hi guys! Recently I’ve had to reschedule sessions with some of you due to unexpected water damage and contractors coming over to assess damages. This has become about a $10,000 project within the last few days and having just moved in, this was absolutely not something I was prepared for.

Thank you so much for your understanding and patience as I figure out next steps for repairs.

I’m so proud to see how far Kona and Emmy have come! When I first met them, their family was struggling to find a level of calm in their home, and had started wondering if they made a mistake adopting Kona.

Yesterday, because of their hard work and dedication, I came to their lesson and Kona and Emmy were in the same room together! They’ve even started to play together and get zoomies in the yard 😍. This is HUGE progress, and I’m so happy to be part of their journey.

Look what came in the mail today! 🥺

It was amazing to take the classes at . They’ve really helped expand my knowledge and grow as a trainer and advocate for dogs. Next semester, I plan to continue my education for both dogs and cats, but for today, I’m celebrating this accomplishment. 🥳

Hi guys! This week, I’ve been a bit slow at sending out training plans and scheduling new clients. I really appreciate how patient you’ve been, and I would like to introduce what has caused the sudden delay.

Meet Cashew! She’s a puppy that I’m fostering/hopefully adopting through , and she’s only 10 weeks old!! That means she has a lot to learn, and requires a lot of time. Today, I had a management failure and she managed to get out of her crate, and ransacked the room she stays in. Please hang in with us while Cashew and I grow together and learn a routine we can all thrive on. Thank you!

⭐National Dog Bite Prevention Week⭐

🚫DON'T PUNISH THE GROWL🚫

Growling is a valuable piece of information! A dog is able to communicate with us that they are uncomfortable or fearful of a situation, person, animal, etc. Growling is not the problem, it's a symptom of a problem!

A dog will give you many forms of body language preceding the growl. If we ignore all of them and then punish the dog for communicating, all that's left is for him to bite 😞

The best thing to do is to contact a certified force-free trainer to help assess the underlying cause of what is making your dog feel afraid or protective. They will help create a behavior plan to change how the dog feels about scary things! This way, instead of suppressing the fear and increasing the risk of a bite, you are teaching your dog to be more confident and happy in their own paws! ❤️

Today is !!! Dogfighting is a horrific sport that is very real and alive in this country. While dogfighting is illegal across all 50 states, dogfighting still exists in all of them. In this sport, a dogs life typically consists of forced breeding, a heavy chain, fear, and pain. There is no humane life or death in this sport.

Bark Nation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Michigan whose mission is to end canine cruelty and save lives. This organization is committed to ending contract level dogfighting and giving survivors of dogfighting a second chance at life. Bark Nation assists in search warrants, bringing survivors of dogfighting into safety at their shelter. Here, these survivors learn how amazing is! Bark Nation is fully operated by volunteers who work hard every day to ensure every dog awaiting their trial is cared for, loved, and cherished.

To spread awareness and to help , Yes Dog Training will be donating $1 to Bark Nation for every like this post gets, and $5 for every share within the next 24 hours!!! Let’s all work together to spread awareness and end this sport for good!!!

There’s been so many great pups I’ve had the pleasure of meeting recently😍. Pet sitting is booking up fast for the months of May-September, if you have a trip planned for the summer, call to reserve dates in advance! I’m so excited and lucky that I get to spend time with these pups while their families are on vacation ❤️ Each day, we play a fun enrichment game, work on training, and send daily updates if the family is interested.

I’ve been working with Oliver for a little while, and this week I get to stay with him for a whole week of fun and training 😍. Oliver has the tendency to get super overwhelmed and become mouthy/jumpy/humpy around guests, which can be pretty scary with how big he is.

In this video, we’re working on introducing a flirt pole for him to use all that energy he has and boost enrichment!

1. Introduce flirt pole and let your dog catch it fairly quickly. Make the game easy for awhile!
2. Once they catch it, give them a few seconds to enjoy chewing on their toy, then ask for a drop it/trade and toss some treats for your dog to find.
3. Because Oliver gets a bit wild coming up to people, I added a sit and touch for him.
4. Resume play!

At the end of this session, I smeared some peanut butter on the cement for him to lick at while I put the flirt pole away.

Are you interested in improving your bond with your dog or learning fun games like this? Contact us to set up a session!

A great bonus: I get to watch Boba and help lay foundations for him a whole two weeks while his mom goes out of town 😍

Have you ever tried fostering before?

Fostering through your local shelter can help save not one, but two lives! Not only does your foster animal get some time to decompress in a home, but the shelter also has more availability to take in another animal in need.

I’m picking up a litter of kittens and mom tomorrow morning, so tonight I’ve been working on setting up the foster room to make sure they get provided the best care while they stay with me. Once the kittens are old enough to retain their own body heat, they’ll have full access to the room. The floor mats are super easy to sanitize, so i put them out rather than having the kittens run around on carpet, since that’s much harder to sanitize.

Keep an eye out for tomorrow’s post! There’s been new pups that have joined training programs and I’m excited to share theirs and the kittens journey with you. ❤️

Prepping enrichment can sound like a huge daunting task that takes a lot of time out of our week, but I promise it’s not! I prepped all of this in about 15 minutes while I waited for my own dinner to finish cooking. It’s hard for me to set an hour aside every day to train or prep things, so instead I try to find those smaller moments that I can complete one task in so it doesn’t seem so daunting.

In fifteen minutes I was able to make

2 pig ears
2 topples
2 kings
3 lick mats

What enrichment are you offering your dog this week?

In many communities, there are myths, stigma, and judgments surrounding the use of behavioral medications for humans and animals. The debate can become quite heated, especially given the highly personal and sensitive nature of mental health and therapeutic journeys.
At Synergy, we work every day to dispel myths, share and use accurate and up to date information, and shift paradigms regarding behavior, treatment, and animal training. The topic of medication comes up often, and we are excited to share some truths regarding behavioral medication for your pet.

🧟‍♂️ MYTH #1: “Behavioral medication will turn my pet into a zombie.”
Working with a veterinary behaviorist or an experienced veterinarian means that your dog’s medication should not change their personality, nor should it cause your dog to appear or feel sedated or unresponsive. If this is happening with your pet, speak to your vet behavior professional so adjustments can be made, or a different medication can be trialed.
Appropriately prescribed behavioral medication should not alter your pet’s personality, and certainly should not turn them into a zombie. On the contrary, it should bring out the best in your pet!

😭 MYTH #2: “Medication should only be considered as a last resort, and only after we have exhausted all other options.”
This pervasive myth is quite harmful, especially because it can sometimes lead pet guardians to using aversive and outdated methods of behavior modification with their pets (which can just make their pet’s behavior worse!). Medication can be a fantastic supplemental aid to a well-designed behavior modification plan, right from the start of your training journey. Shifting this perspective means more pets will get help sooner.

📉 MYTH #3: “Medication means I have failed my pet.”
Medication can provide your pet with relief from sometimes overwhelming anxiety, distress, arousal, and fear. Giving your pet this kind of relief when it is needed means you are doing the best thing for them as their guardian and advocate. It also means that your behavior modification and training plan will likely have a greater impact and both of you will be on the road to a harmonious home that much sooner.

🧐 MYTH #4: “Medication is never necessary; all behavior problems can be fixed with the right kind of training.”
Just like humans, some animals need extra help for therapy to take effect in a transformative and impactful way. Medication should always be combined with a force-free training plan, and sufficient management; but that doesn’t mean the medication isn’t a necessary part of the animal’s treatment plan.

☠️ MYTH #5: “Behavioral medication means my pet will be on drugs for the rest of its life.”
Behavioral medication, and the way it is used, is a very individual process and is dependent on the animal and the situation. Working with a veterinary behavior professional can help you design the best possible plan for the best possible outcome. That does not necessarily mean medication will be required to maintain the positive changes you are achieving. The training and management is what truly changes your pet’s behavior long-term. Medication can be a fantastic support for that process, and you and your veterinary behavior professional will determine how long it is necessary.

Wow so many new faces the last week!! I’ve had the pleasure of meeting these three families the last week and a half, and helping them learn to succeed in different things! Sailor from has had some issues with pottying in the house and getting in the trash. Scooter, also from Do Only Good is learning better ways to ask for attention rather than mouthing on people and learning how to succeed in a home, and Macy, Molly, and Jack Love greeting people by jumping!

Each one of these dogs has unique personalities and behaviors, so each plan for them is unique! There is no one size fits all training plan, so each lesson is tailored to fit what you and your pet needs. ❤️

In most of the videos I post, I try to keep things less distracting for both my dog and my clients so you both can learn fun new things. But that’s not the reality of most training sessions, most training sessions involve my cats getting into the camera, yelling from another room, or trying to join in on the training!

I can’t believe how lucky I am 😍. Aster and Mabel were both adopted through a few years apart. Since adding in a new addition to the family, their parents want to make sure they get off on the right paw! Aster is learning some cool new skills, and how to leave his sister alone when they both need a break.
