This morning, our hearts were shattered as we said goodbye to Dumpling 😓

Dumpling originally came to us before we had even opened our temporary facility in Selkirk.

From the very beginning, there was something clearly wrong with Dumpling. Her legs were starting to splay, and despite trying everything (intensive rehab, leg splints, etc), we couldn't correct them. But Dumpling was dojng amazing. She started developing some bad pododermatitis, and eventually, we came to the conclusion a month or so ago that she needed a wheelchair. An incredibly kind woman by the name of Peydra was able to donate her past bunnies' chair, and it was the perfect fit! But we needed to amputate her one back leg to make it work.

The amputation was booked, but in recent weeks, her health started to decline. Her front legs were getting worse, her pressure sores were getting harder to control, and she had an issue with her tail pop up a couple of weeks ago, and the tail started to die off.

She spent the first few months of her life at HQ and the last few with a kind, amazing foster Tracey, who worked tirelessly on a daily basis to clean and medicate Dumpling. Unfortunately, her condition reached a point beyond what any human could do. She was starting to struggle beyond a good quality of life, and we knew we couldn't let her suffer.

So today, with Dr. Lin, Mrs. Popcorn, Mr. Binky and her beautiful foster Tracey by her side, Dumpling binkied across the Rainbow Bridge surrounded by love, grass, and all of the treats she could ever want.

So many of you rallied behind Dumpling, including the wonderful students in the P.A.C.E. program at The U of W, who has a huge fundraiser planned for Dumpling tomorrow. The fundraiser and GoFundMe were originally to help pay for modifications to her wheelchair and help pay for her amputation. Tomorrow will now be a memorial fundraiser in Dumpling's honor, for all of her friends who are still fighting illness in rescue.

Dumpling, you will forever be loved and remembered by an entire community of animal lovers and your husbun, Simon. We hope you are enjoying so many dandelions at the bridge.

Sweet dreams, forever and always 🐰🌈

Sunday was an unexpected and horrifically sad goodbye to Egg Roll, who had not yet turned a year old.

Egg Roll had contracted E. Cuniculi, which is a parasite that affects the nervous system and kidneys. We have noticed E.C. in several of the Selkirk rabbits, and have already had to remove the eye of one rabbit (Bun Halen, now Autumn). Trinity will also require an eye removal next month for the same condition.

Egg Roll's E.C. started presenting as a slight head tilt. We immediately started her on medication and took her straight to a vet who confirmed the suspected diagnosis.

Her head tilt got a little worse, but she was still doing well otherwise. This Saturday, she was dropped off at a respite foster home while her regular foster was away for a few days. When she arrived, she was doing extremely well; exploring, eating, and she would even binky.

Within a few hours, her respite foster noticed that she occasionally started to spin and flip her body in a bit of a panic. Over the next few hours, the frequency of these episodes increased, and the only way to keep her calm was to hold her. So her respite foster mom stayed up all night to ensure she was safe at comfortable. Foster dad took over in the morning.

The next morning (yesterday), her episodes got more severe and frequent. She was taken back to HQ, and we tried everything to stabilize her, including anti seizure medication. Nothing worked. Through discussions with our vet, it was clear the parasite had invaded her brain at an alarming rate, and there was nothing we could do.

Dr. Lin from
was able to meet us (after 2 days of travel with severe Jet Lag) and help ease Eggie's suffering by helping her over The Rainbow Bridge.

We know her regular foster mom is devastated that she never got to say goodbye, but we ensured that Egg Roll knew just how much she was loved as she passed away with Dr. Lin, Mr. Binky, and Mrs. Popcorn by her side.

Egg Roll, you didn't deserve this to be the end to your story, but I hope you will always remember all of that loved you from the very first moment you came into our care.

Saturday morning, we said a heartbreaking goodbye to Buntoro 😓

Buntoro was the bunny that came in with the exceptionally bad teeth, and we were unsure if he would survive long. Thankfully, after a couple of tooth trims, he started turning a corner. He was eating like a champ, and his tooth trims were needed further and further apart.

Over the last couple of weeks, we noticed that he was starting to lose some weight. However, he continued to eat well and be active. His neuter and next tooth trim were coming up, and we supplemented his diet with critical care. Friday evening, he was a happy boy.

The next morning, Mr. Binky went to feed him his breakfast and found him laying beside his water dish. He was still breathing, but he was unconscious. We held him, thinking it wouldn't be long until he passed. He never woke up, but he was still breathing.

Thankfully, Dr. Gould from was able to see him on a Saturday and help him across The Rainbow Bridge so that he didn't suffer. Our best guess is that he had a stroke or seizure and was too far gone to save.

Buntoro, you were and always will ne our goofy-toothed little boy. You were such a happy bunny despite all you had endured, and we will forever be thankful that we got a chance to love you.

Sweet dreams 🐰🌈
