Bok! bok! Announcing some new arrivals on the SunRise AwakeHening Farmstead!! This momma out and about proudly showing off her mad guinea skills. This is a fantastic display of mothering, guineas are notoriously bad mums...they usually do not seclude themselves from predators nor do they stay the distance. Guniea keets hatch out after 28 days, one week longer than do chickens.
I had to spend a lot of time to being you this info: 18 in total…they were super hard to count.

Aiming to please the hens, I cooked up some old pantry cleanout gifts. Hope my already good hatch rate continues! We want healthy, happy chickies wanting to line up and live on the FarmStead.

Two juxtaposed ways of looking at soil/plant tending. The old way where cows are naturally building soil health…and the chemical “revolution” where farmers were sold an idea that we could “spray” our way out of problems. The math is not mathing….

My first Bresse broody hen! This Is marvelous news for the farm As these birds are dual purpose…egg producers as well as meat birds.
Just gotta figure out when she can be moved. As a first time broody momma, we do not want to scare her off the nest. 🐣🐣🐣Go Momma, Go!!

A tractor pen on grass is perfect for Welsummers as they have an excellent temperament for confinement. Farmer Jo moved them to a side yard helping out the in the composting cycle. The side pen was cleaned out to go in garden beds…and was replaced with wood mulch & leaves (all free). Between the rabbit & the chickens poooos they will start another cycle that should be ready next spring. They have a mini green plot that grows successive crops of greens for them.

Introducing new teachings: Old Earth to New Earth

I adore conversations where we discuss how so much of what is is backAsswards. If you’ve noticed, there is much evidence once your eyes are open to realizing we (humanity) have been caught up in lies and deception. This is a grand topic with a vast scope, so I’m starting a series of short talks starting from the ground up. Literally.

Join me as I start a learning journey in farmsteading….from soil care, herbalism, poultry & other animal care and sourdough. I’m not off-grid (yet 😃, I’d like to be), rather on a rural farmstead of just about 12 Acres.

First up will be building better soil for crops. Have you tried composting? It is a wonderful way to come full circle, reduce carbon footprint, use everything to make better soil. I would encourage every household to make use of this “black gold!”
Compost is an excellent step in the right direction to enhance soil, however it is not the only thing great soil needs.

Enter stage left…humic/fulvic acid. Struggling to understand this component of soil needs? Join me as I learn myself….

We support raw feeding. With everything that is wrong with kibble, raw feeding makes up for the gaps. Yes, it is work. i prefer to make time to put the work in so I know what it is my pups eat. They are worth it, I am worth it. These pics are a step in switching over. just do it.

🥰And just like that! Our farmstead grew! This is our experienced Brahamamama that hatched all 10 of her chosen eggs. I slipped 5 2-week olds under her, we are monitoring to see if they will all be accepted.🤩💕
Update: Momma was ok with it, but the 2weekolds did not bond And were put back in brooder pen.
