He must feel so secure knowing he has you both to love and protect him now

My husband had been wanting a dog for a long time. I finally agreed, but with one condition: we would go to the shelter instead of a breeder. With so many dogs in need, I felt we should give one a good home. So, we drove to the local shelter, just to look, I insisted. I also made it clear that I didn’t want a puppy but an older dog.

There weren't many dogs to choose from, maybe about eight. As I walked up and down the rows of cages, I noticed the saddest, most frightened little black and white dog I had ever seen. He looked at me, and I felt a pang in my chest. He was standing at the back of his cage, pressed against the wall.

Determined to meet him, I stood guard by his cage while my husband fetched a shelter worker. When the dog was brought into the room, he just stood there trembling, all 20 pounds of him. He gave us each a tentative lick, but mostly, he was terrified.

The shelter workers couldn't provide much of his background, only that he came from a kill shelter. I knew right then that we had to help him overcome his fears. We took him home and soon realized there was something seriously wrong with him. He wound up having pneumonia and had to stay at the shelter to be treated. The shelter was 40 minutes away from us, but we drove there about 3-4 times a week so he wouldn’t forget us or feel abandoned all over again.

A month later he was able to come home. It was the best day ever. He played with his very first toy which was bittersweet. He was already 8 months old and never saw a toy. He has about 25+ now and knows all their names.

It’s been 3 1/2 years and a little work every day. He’s overcome so many fears, has a huge vocabulary, and can do many tricks! He’s 70 pounds now and still loves to “sit” in my lap. (He used to do that when we visited him at the shelter for the month he was sick). He adores my husband and waits by the door for him to come home! He made our house a home!

Thank you for rescuing her and giving her a real home. She’ll always be part of your family.

Rainbow wasn't a stray cat, she had a "home" but a home where no one cared about her 🙁 she was just good for catching mice - that's all,
Rainbow came to me in 2022 and I adopted her, I gave her food and loved her 😻
at first, she still was going back to her "home" then later she stopped and stayed with me ❤️ I grow to love her even more and she became part of my family of 3 cats and dog, ( plus many stray cats )
I lost my cat Roxie this year January and it hit me badly 🙁 I was able to recover by now and thanI lost another baby Rainbow 🌈 🙁 🙁
But I also know that Roxie is over the bridge waiting for Rainbow to hang out with her and watch over us 🥺
To everyone who lost a cat - your best friend I'm so sorry 😔 what a pain..

It’s wonderful that Cleo has finally found her real family with you.

It’s wonderful that Cleo has finally found her real family with you.

When her owner died, the family couldn't keep her, and my friend's family, who didn't really want her, took her in. When I told them I thought she was gorgeous, they begged me to take her. I couldn't because of living situations.
However, eight months ago, I got my own place, and she came to live with me. I have been obsessed with her ever since. The weird thing is, I have never been a cat person. I never owned a cat. It's always been all about the dogs. And I still love dogs! I love all animals, really. But anyway, with cats I was always like, "aw so cute" but "not for me". Until I met this fluffy little demon kitty.
She's actually super sweet and affectionate when she's not running around the house like a maniac. I instantly fell in love with her. She was declared to be my cat. I renamed her because her name used to be Cuddles, but nobody ever called her that. As soon as she became mine, she adapted to me, her name, and her new home quickly and easily.
She is pretty attached to me now. I can't even go to the bathroom without her following me in. And I am 100% okay with that. It's like we were meant for each other. She chose me and I love her.
It's unlike any experience I've ever had with an animal. The dogs in my life were chosen by my family, and while I loved them both to pieces, they didn't choose me the way Cleo did. It was a special attraction between us. And now I can't imagine life without her. She sleeps with me on my bed at night, we have meowing conversations regularly, she brings me toys to play with her, and she greets me at the door every time I come home. I would be so lonely without her. She's my little baby.

She had the kindest eyes. You can tell she was truly loved and cherished. RIP Mia.

My Mia showed up in 2015 looking for food. She was a petite little girl, and I started feeding her and talking to her. Soon, she let me pet her.
A few days later, my son dropped by and picked her up, and I saw that she was nursing kittens. The next day, I followed her to an old work truck parked in our field. In the back were four black and white fat babies.
I immediately scooped everyone up and took them into our house. For the next eight years, we had a furry clowder. Last week, Mia started acting strangely, hiding and hissing at me. She had always been my constant companion, sleeping next to me, laying her cheek on mine to sleep, so this was very abnormal behavior for her.
I took her to our vet, who pronounced her "fine" and sent her back home with me. When I got her home, she could no longer walk. I took her to another vet the next day and had blood work and x-rays. No answers.
Long story short, I ended up losing my best friend because no one could diagnose what was wrong. My heart is broken. I miss her so much, and she can never be replaced. Wait for me at the bridge, Mia meow. I can't wait to be with you again.
