Horses may come and go in our lives, but their hoofprints will stay forever in our hearts

Alexa left for her new home today. I'm so excited for the pretty girl to have her own person who will love on her. Happy trails to them both!

I don’t know who’s happier to be back in Duluth after a fun filled jam packed last two days. Alexa decided to remind me that she is in fact just three years old and a thoroughbred (though 99.9% of the time she forgets that) but I couldn’t be prouder with her debut at the 2020 Trainers Challenge. She pulled through and we accomplished some great things. And the best part, she got adopted!!

Alexa and I can't wait to see the fellow teams this weekend! It's not too late to get pre-approved to adopt one of this fantastic horses!

Alexa would be best suited in a laid back home. One where she can be pampered with all the attentions and go for short easy rides. This girl LOVES grooming and being in the barn (and of course cookies). Undersaddle she has an incredibly laid back pace. Not much bothers her but if you want to get there fast, she's not the one. If you want to enjoy the journey and the time spent in the company of the sweetest horse on the planet, she's your girl.

We don’t quite have the neck reining down, but she sure isn’t bothered by anything strange out in the yard.

Alexa is back in work! She’s had a little down time the past few weeks, between waiting on some shoes, letting her body rest and then healing up a cut on her leg.

My absolute favorite thing about this mare is her incredibly sweet and willing personality. She’s acts like she’s had no time off at all.

She is going to make someone the best trail horse. She may not have stellar conformation and her ambitions in life do not include any type of show career, but if someone wants a level headed, dawdle around the yard and down the trail, this is your girl. 💕

We’ve got shoes! Alexa’s heel finally has enough good growth on it to be able to secure a pair of front shoes that she really badly needed. Her poor little thoroughbred feet do not like any rocky ground. Excellent farrier work is going to be key for this girl’s future

I apologize it’s been a little quiet on the page. When Alexa came to me, she had chunked a part of her heel out on her front foot. Poor nutrition in her past had led to some not healthy growth. We are slowly working on getting things back in order! My wonderful farrier has been out to check on her almost every other week, so as to keep things in check. With the lack of heel, she’s not holding a shoe nicely. So we are keeping her barefoot until a little later but everything is pointing to her needing front shoes for trails anyways (TBs 🤷🏼‍♀️) She was trimmed up a few weeks ago and got a little tender footed. I decided to give her time to just relax and be a horse until she was feeling a little better. Things are back in order now so expect more updates soon!

Huge shout out to Patrick with Patrick’s Farrier Service who is doing a great job (like always) with getting this cutie back in tip top hoof shape. Like the saying says, no hoof, no horse! We take hoof care very seriously here and Alexa’s feet will be gorgeous in a few months I just know! I’ve included a few pictures to show her hoof progression

With every ride, I can feel her body softening and her confidence growing. The big door being open today was a huge distraction but she handled it perfectly

21/05/2020

Three year old moment! I had originally thought we’d try our first ride in the outdoor but figured I’d try lunging first instead. We haven’t been out there for a couple weeks (cold and super windy weather up here). Good thing too! Someone was spicy! But with a few minutes of redirecting, I had her brain back and Lexi was her normal laid back self. Gotta love those baby horses

No patience post needed for this girl! Alexa is one of the nicest horses I’ve ever met when tied ❤️

Not your typical thoroughbred. Alexa is starting to work on her forward button. I love how laid back she is, but she’s ready to get her body a little more engaged and softened. With how she processes things, I’ve found less is more. Short, to the point sessions. Let her process without overwhelming and it sticks. I love how quickly she’s picked up the canter que! Definitely still baby in body and mind but getting there. As she continues to develop over the summer, she’s going to be quite the cute little mover! I’ve also discovered she’s not a huge fan of her ears being touched (she’s got a small amount of plaque in them) so were working on that as well.

First ride ✔️

Could not be happier with how this pretty girl is coming along! She takes things in stride and has the sweetest personality. Stay tuned for more riding videos. I was too excited today and didn’t have my phone on me 😂

Work in progress but I think she’ll be a pro in no time!

Alexa wasn’t so sure about this plastic bag nonsense today but she was willing to figure it out!
