We haven't been too active on this page recently. But we've been learning lots of new tricks lately including water the plant, read a book, put the socks away, take cover, and yoga (shown below). Teaching a watch me command is not only super convenient for photo ops, but is also beneficial for keeping your dogs attention as well. Teaching this behavior is very simple and all you need is your reward and a marker word or clicker.

Starting in a boring environment take a seat and just look at your dog. The second your dog looks up and makes eye contact with you click and reward. Do about 15 reps before adding your cue word, I use "look". Continue practicing with the cue word for another 15 reps. In your next training session add a movement principle in that your dog must make eye contact when in motion. I use a heel to teach this. Finally work through your training triangle (watch for a post about this soon) by adding duration, distance, and distraction in order to proof the behavior.
