PSA… Shock collars, also known as e-collars or electronic collars, are training devices that use a radio signal to send a mild stimulus to a receiver collar worn on a dog's neck. The stimulus can be a warning beep or vibration, followed by a remote shock if the dog doesn't stop the behavior. Some say that the collars are reliable, less risky than mechanical devices, and can be used over greater distances. However, others cite the risk of pain, fear, and abuse.
Individual dogs have different pain thresholds and stress responses, so a shock that seems mild to one dog might be severe to another. Some pets may be more sensitive or reactive, making them more susceptible to adverse physical reactions. In extreme cases, shock collars can cause seizures or damage a dog's vocal cords. Long-term exposure to the collar can even result in brain damage or death.
