VET DAY!! Today Magoo visited with Doc bc he appeared to have yet another UTI…and he does have a raging one. 😢 Radiographs showed no stones, though, so that’s good. So he’s beginning meds, again, and we’ll send his internist the update. Having several in a short time span is concerning, so we’ll see what she thinks about it and go from there. This poor guy…I wish he could get a break. The sweetest soul and the hardest hit. Here’s hoping we can find the root cause and that it won’t be anything major. Meanwhile, he smiles. Good news! Janie's urine culture came back normal, so the meds actually DID work, but it must have cleared it in the last few days and I didn't see it 🤦♀️ - just goes to show you that it's important to take all your meds when the doc gives them! So now we will focus on keeping her clean since she has the recessed v***a and hopefully keep the UTIs at bay. Tomorrow we take in Magoo, but we'll keep you posted on that.

Janie’s vet visit went well, and she was such a good girl for the cysto. Surprisingly, her urine looked much better, so she made me a total liar. 🫠 But, we’re sending it off to be safe and will lean more from the culture in about a week. I suppose the meds could have finally started to kick in and my last view was before they did. Regardless, it’s best to get the culture to know if we need to do more.

VET DAY!! Thursday Magoo and Janie had to hit the vet again. Janie did not respond to the medication for her UTI, so we had to start another medication. She's still in good spirits and doing okay, but we need to get her healed up. Should this antibiotic not work, we'll have to do a cysto and culture the urine. Praying it won't come to that.
Magoo got another hit b/c well, he's Magoo.🫠 Nothing too intense, but he had a tremendous limp. It appeared to be somewhere in his foot, so we had Doc check it out. His pinky toe is the culprit, and he does not like you messing with it. So we did x-rays to be safe, and there is no broken bone or mass, thankfully. So most likely it's ligament related and will require rest and continued pain meds. Not sure if he stumbled or tripped or what, but thankful it's nothing more serious. I just hate that he has yet something else to deal with. He, of course, remains his happy, adorable self. ON A POSITIVE NOTE, check out his elbow...the hygroma has gone away! Wahoo!!! Now for some spa treatment to moisturize those elbows since all the elbow craziness has subsided.

After realizing I’ll bring him water when he’s thirsty, Magoo has decided to now let me know when he desires a drink with an “errr. errr” until I bring him water. I mean, it’s kinda genius. 🧠

VET DAY!! Miss Janie saw Doc today. X-rays fortunately showed no stones, so that is a wonderful thing! She definitely has a UTI though, so she’s starting on medication. We learned that she also has an inverted v***a, which means we may face repeated UTIs. Hopefully not, but we’ll have to keep the v***a clean with some baby wipes to try and avoid. She was a little scared but such a brave girl for her exam and radiographs. She’ll get some extra treats tonight for being such a good girl. Oh, and she’s up to 80lbs! Such a baby when she came; now she’s just a big baby. 💕I wish, for her knees sake, she’d stop growing, but there’s 2 years to go. But I digress. All in all, she’s on her way to feeling better. 😊
VET DAY!! Yesterday Magoo visited his friends at Fetch Specialty. Again. 🙃Yes, yes...the boy can't catch a break. His elbow swelled tremendously and was full of fluid, so we reached out to doc who wanted to see him since he reacted so poorly and quickly to the original bite/sting on that elbow. An exam and aspiration led to it being a probable hygroma. This is something that is not uncommon in large and XL dogs, but ya know...it could have skipped Magoo for crying out loud? So ideally, treatment is a CT and surgery. However, she said we could start by using a compression sleeve and see if it will help. If it bursts or seeps it means trouble, and we have to do surgery. 🥹 Really, really, really don't want this boy to have to go through surgery. He is doing well, and of course, was a perfect gentleman for his workup.
THEN, Janie was jealous, so we have to take her to the doc tomorrow for a UTI...or we hope it's just that and not stones or otherwise. She looks smiley in this photo b/c I love her face so much, but while she's not miserable, you can tell she's just "ugh." Praying nothing will happen tonight that will result in an ER visit, so if you all can join me in that, I'd be grateful. Also throw in that it's a mere, ornery UTI vs something more serious.

It’s time for fun stuff! With our blind babies, we use specific collars, martingales, bc it makes it easier on them should we have a “nope, this way!” or whatnot, and it is more comfortable for them when we lead them. Well, Magoo’s, Matilda’s and Sterling’s have gotten pretty cruddy and beat up, so it was time for new ones. Matilda and Sterling love theirs! As you can see they are very proud. 😍 I mean, who wouldn’t be? Aren’t they adorbs??? Magoo’s however ended up being too big bc he’s lost weight. 😢 I was so bummed bc it’s tan and black plaid and just the perfect collar for him. When I measured he had more weight on him, but he’s still 69lbs so I thought it’d still fit. Apparently his weight has shifted (much like mine 😜) bc it’s too large. 😩 I was so sad bc I did not expect that. So I guess I’ll have to get him a different size. But these are so well made, guys, and so pretty!! They come from whose mission is to help animals in rescues and shelters. They didn’t ask for a plug, but I’m going to give them one bc, 1) I love these things, and 2) they’re good people. They have been so terrific to us, helping us with emergencies for dogs like RooRoo, Layla, Spring, and Magoo, and so many other animals across the nation. You can see their work on their website. They are a wonderful group and their products are to die for - omg the ID tags!! 🤩 You have to go look at them - they’re little drivers licenses!! Also, these collars are made really well. Anyway, if you’re looking for some awesome things for your pets, check them out. You’ll get great stuff and help shelter/rescue dogs, too. 🥰 Now be sure to tell Matilda and Sterling how pretty her new dress and his dinner jacket are!

🌟MAGOO UPDATE:
I apologize for the late update. Things have been extraordinarily busy. But, I was able to pick him up Wednesday night. He had responded well, BP got back to normal and he was alert, so Doc said he could come home. When I picked him up his leg was enormous - not sure if you can tell in the pics but it was huge. Yesterday it went down quite a bit and it’s about normal size now. He is perkier and back to normal when he’s not sleeping from his meds. 💤 He’s on antibiotics, antihistamines, pain meds and an antacid, plus his normal round of 800 meds. 😉 Today has been challenging b/c the fluid burst out of his elbow where it was gathered. Not abnormal, as the pressure eventually causes this to happen, but the house looked like a murder scene with all the blood. I’ve cleaned the house, and wrapped and cleaned his elbow quite a few times today. He’s being quite ornery and wants to lick it, of course, as they all do, so hence the hat (which also irritates him). BUT, he’s alive, much, much better, and he’s going to be okay. ❤️ 🙏
You all are a major part of his success and we are forever grateful to you for helping to take care of him. He is so remarkable and if you’ve not met him, I wish you could. Maybe we could declare Mr Magoo Day and celebrate with a big party?!?! Sounds like a winner to me! 😍

‼️ MAGOO UPDATE: He is doing better. The internist feels like he was bitten or stung by something, and that he is on the road to getting better. He also has a UTI which I supposed was masked by drinking and peeing so much normally due to the prednisone. Totally unrelated but could be making it a little harder on him. His BP is still low so they want to continue monitoring him, and they’re taking some X-rays of his chest. He’s getting lots of meds, fluids, and love. With any luck he can come home tonight but most likely it will be tomorrow.

🚨MAGOO UPDATE! He is currently at the ER where he will spend the night and see the internist in the morning. It was a daunting and fearful start but he has responded to fluids and his fever came down. He’s not out of the woods yet, but they say he looks better. We still have no idea what’s caused this, as tests and imaging have given us nothing thus far. He’s a fighter, though, and we’re believing he will get through this.
You can see the estimate for tonight - we just put down that huge deposit, and it hurt. 😩But we are grateful to you bc it helped us do it. 🆘🚨‼️ Please keep Magoo in your thoughts and prayers. He is very sick with an extremely high temperature. Something must have bitten him, best guess…spider or whatnot…but he has extreme cellulitis in his leg and has to be on fluids and antibiotics through the night, and supervised. This hit very fast. To boot, my own dog is with us and also very ill, so I’m a bit of a mess right now, all the while trying to get ready for work. 😫This is going to be big and scary, so please, while I know we’ve asked recently with our $2 Tuesday, if you could consider anything toward Magoo’s emergency, we’d be incredibly grateful. Yesterday we finally made the decision to let Lil’ Man find peace. His dementia had worsened and he had rapidly declined. The decision probably should have been made sooner, if I’m being honest, but it is a very difficult process when the issue is a mental vs physical one; it’s hard to get a grasp on it. Despite meds, altering things for his comfort, and seemingly anything and everything else, he did not have a good quality of life anymore. It was sad and awful to watch. If any of you have experienced this, whether human or animal, you can understand. However, he is alert, bright and smiling again, and we’re thankful we could provide him that revitalization. Go get’’em Lil’ Man…show those other whippersnappers who’s boss. ❤️ 💪🐾

VET DAY!! Lil’ Man saw gave us a scare so we got him to Doc today. Turns out he’s got a yucky UTI and feeling puny. He now has mac daddy meds, however, and is on the road to recovery. While there, he impolitely told everyone how he felt…including the waiting room and everyone down the street. But he’s already had the first med so he’ll be back to normal soon. Go Lil’ Man! 💕 💪
Because when you’re this handsome, this is all you need to do…Just sit there and look good. Sweet Theo. ❤️ His heart is pure gold, but his fears are true. He’s come so far, but his little boy self is still afraid of quick moves, louder than normal voices…and people. Yet he has learned to trust his foster family and expresses his love by resting his big head and long nose on the desk…it’s how he asks for affection. He doesn’t hand out kisses and he’s not a snuggler, although he enjoys hugs, and storms do get him close to you on the bed. But he’ll flip your hand up to make sure you don’t stop petting, and he’ll SMILE and DANCE when you come home. Then he’ll run outside with a celebratory WOOOOOOOF!!!Sweet Theo is a heartbreaker, both in looks and in little boy charm. We are so glad he doesn’t live the abusive life he once knew.
When you wake up and find a tubby little Potato snuggled in under the breeze of the ceiling fan. ❤️🥔 It’s hard to imagine her living on her own for so long, scared of everyone. Still a little shy, with new people and happenings, but she has flourished into the most affectionate, joyful little girl. Her smile radiates sweetness. So grateful her little face stole our hearts. Whenever adopted, it will be bittersweet, but we’ll have to suck it up. We know someone will adore her as much as we do.

Potato has such a huge adoration for other dogs. She is thrilled to make canine friends, care for them, and as you see here, show them that they’re loved. Potato is shy with people, but she is overflowing with glee alongside her fellow canines. She constantly passes out hugs and kisses to them. However, when she knows she won’t be hurt, she passes along the same adoration and affection to her humans. Potato is a special girl who has come so far. It’s impossible not to be smitten with her enormous bright smile, gentle kisses, silly shenanigans, and kind heart. Matilda is one of k9.5’s sanctuary dogs. She came to us as a baby after being left in a dumpster at about 8wks old. She was riddled with parasites; so many that it took several repeated treatments to get her healthy. She never had any requests for adoption, and at 5yrs old she developed glaucoma in her left eye. We removed it so she’d be free of pain, she got through recovery, and a few months later the same happened with the right eye. At that point she went through an obvious adjustment. She trampled on through the changes and adapted quickly, no doubt. However, Matilda is very cat-like and selective of her people. She immensely and wholeheartedly loves those people, but as a result of this particularity and her eye loss, and not wanting to put her through any additional stress, she became a sanctuary dog. Matilda is fearless. She is the boss of the place and has a will of her own. Matilda does what Matilda wants to do, and if you think her way is wrong, then you’re incorrect. 😉 Kidding aside, she is an exceptional dog. She has an incredible intelligence level, she knocked bilateral eye removals out of the park, she’s superbly behaved (minus ignoring a few of your requests and being slightly bossy to the others - don’t tell her I said that), and she accepts all dogs. She snuggles with her buds, adores her foster grandma, and gives her foster mommy tight and very happy hugs when she comes home. Now, at 9yrs old, she remains a gem, and I’m very proud of her. We don’t get rid of dogs who nobody may adopt or who have a medical issue. We stick by them, care for, and love them for the duration. That’s what rescue is about. Matilda and all of our sanctuary dogs deserve that kind of commitment. PRA, CCB, EPI and Dysbiosis. His diagnoses cover almost every letter in the alphabet...yet you see how his spirits never diminish. This is Magoo at a vet visit, so imagine a plain ol' regular day. Kind. Positive. Strong. That's Magoo...our own little hero adored and admired by all. Magoo's current focus: He needs a procedure called a Fecal Transplant. Due to EPI (Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) and Dysbiosis his gut bacteria is shot. He needs the good bacteria restored so he can absorb his food and its nutrients, and this is the only way to do so. The procedure is $500. Additionally, his daily meds for the EPI are costly, as are rechecks, the combination of his other meds, and his prescription diet. But they keep him alive and keep that big grin on his face. We don't want his spirit to dissolve, nor do we want him to waste away. Be the One that keeps Magoo smiling. Help him be able to absorb the food he needs to survive. Janie is a 6mth old Great Pyrenees puppy with knees that will have her crippled and unable to walk before she can experience even half of her life. She needs surgery. $9400 with of surgery. While her long coat makes it a little harder to see, you can tell she doesn't walk normally. That's because with every step her knee cap pops out. With every step. Janie needs some angels. She needs to be able to walk normally. Remember, it's not just one, it's both knees. She can't even get relief by resting on one or the other.
