Layla continues to charm her foster family and rule the town from her perch. This 10yr old has no idea she’s not 4, still active, showing the crazy little whippersnappers the ropes, and tucking herself in bed at night. Still waiting for her forever home, she is sure to win your heart with her s***k, big love, striking beauty, and enormous smile. Seniors are incredible dogs…give this one a look and you’ll fall in love!

VET DAY!! I know posts have slowed down quite a bit, and I apologize for that. I have taken some needed time to digest the passing of my father and get my brain straight. But today we got back in the groove with a visit to the veterinary ophthalmologist. Sterling visited with Dr Pate so we could check on his candidacy for cataract surgery. She said he can have it, and a good percentage of success. There is a lot to consider, however, including recovery, potential problems, etc. I honestly don’t know what to do. It is elective, so it’s not like he has to have it done. He’s happy, goofy, goes about his day…but the wonder is if it will help with the anxiety he’s developed. Or will it push him into more anxiety b/c of the recovery process and restrictions, the need to be calm, any potential issues…I don’t know. The goal would be to make things easier, but he does well as it is. Recovery would be significant - he’s a dog with energy who would have to be very calm. Then there’s my knees from his e-collar….😉So, we shall ponder and deliberate. Again, the goal is what’s best for him, and it’s not a required surgery. Meanwhile, he will start an anti inflammatory to help prevent glaucoma.

As you can see, he was exhaaauusted. He slept like that for half the trip. True story. 😆

I'm sorry that I've been away for a bit. As I last mentioned, my father was ill so I needed to travel to IL. My brother and I were able to get there and visit with him, and I am forever grateful we made the 13hr trip in time, for he passed this weekend.

Forgive me, as I won't talk long - I'm still digesting things and just need my "me" time to work through my myriad of emotions. However, I wanted to say thank you to all of the wonderful people who helped us during a time that was unexpected, trying, and fearful. Your hearts poured out mounds of love and kindness, with great selflessness, and there are not enough words to express my gratitude.

Thank you everyone for your sweet words and for opening your pocketbooks to keep the dogs safe while I was away. Thank you to Holly Tree Animal Hospital for taking good care of the special needs babies and maneuvering through Magoo's lengthy regime of meds. Thank you Southern Hound Retreat for taking in the other special needs and working through their fears and Radar's shenanigans. Thank you, as well, to for allowing 5 giant floofs to board at the last minute and being brave enough to bathe all of that fluff. And, thank you to Carolina Animal Eye for letting us reschedule Sterling's appointment at the last minute. Thanks to those who helped me at my job. Thank you to my professor who has granted me time in my master's program to muddle through my assignments with poor focus and brain fog. I am grateful to Pandora for their Gap Band station that got us through the drive, as well as Bebe Winans and for "Count it all joy" and "Addictive Love" which have been on repeat for a few weeks.

Thank you all for going through this with me. I couldn't have done it without you.

My father isn’t doing well. Not well at all, and it’s important for me to go see him. So my brother and I are heading to Illinois from South Carolina to see him and spend some much needed time together for a few days.

Many of the dogs have to be boarded as a result. They’ve never boarded before, minus Sterling, so this is all new and confusing to them. Potato and Theo, in the photos, are the ones I worry about most. They’re in good hands but they are afraid. I hate to see a dog scared - it physically makes me sick. So if you don’t mind, say a little prayer for their comfort and that fear will not overcome them.

Financially this will hurt us. It’s no one’s fault, but it certainly does exceed any money we put aside for boarding bc, well, it rarely happens. It’s actually never happened. It will affect us, though. We have specialist visits coming up, Magoo’s line of meds, everyone else’s meds, preventions, etc., and I’m concerned. I will personally cover as much as I can of the bill, but if you don’t mind helping a dog spend the night in a safe place while foster mom is tending to family, we would be grateful. It bothers me to even ask, but this is a special situation. Venmo or PayPal () or our website https://www.k95rescue.org.

Lastly, If you don’t mind saying a prayer for our safe travels, and even for my father, that would be wonderful. Then hug someone who is special to you, and let them know how much they mean to you. ❤️

VET DAY DEUX!! Yesterday and today we saw Doc(s) with Mimi and Janie. Janie just had to get her annual. She's up to 82bs! Let's all pray she doesn't get too much bigger, considering her knees. But I have to tell you, that girl was a genius getting in the back of the van. She placed her front end on the car, then pulled herself up, SLIDING her backend/legs up so she'd not have to use her back legs/knees. It was impressive! 🧠These Pyrs...smarter than your average human.

Well, unless your a baby named Mimi. Mimi decided she wanted to be in the other room while foster mommy was away, so she made every attempt, only to scratch up her face. ☹️😩 So we took her in since she doesn't love it cleaned (and since she's a pup who likes to dirt dive). She was a little chicken pro...aka: scared to death but took it like a champ with pitiful eyes. It already looks better today after cleaning and her wiping it on the dog bed after. 🤦‍♀️ These Pyrs...(go ahead, finish it for me!)

Meanwhile, these best buds are still totally adorable. 😍🥰

So we got an unexpected surprise...his name is Dingo (I affectionally call him Dingo Starr, which probably makes his foster mom want to smack me...but I mean, how can I resist?). Dingo is a 3 1/2yr old, stunning shepherd mix that loves to hand out kisses and loves to play. He is a little thin right now at 55lbs, but should be 65ish pounds at a good weight. He has a ball with his canine foster siblings, romping around and acting silly, however, he is NOT a fan of cats...so no kitties in his forever home. He does love his little bitty human buddy! 💞 He is extremely intelligent, knows sit and lay, and he is house and crate trained. He's also applied for a model position at GQ because the boy knows he looks good. 😎 I mean seriously...that pose?!?!?!

Dingo is looking for an active and playful home that understands German Shepherd traits, and who understands he's been through a lot in a short time after being on his own. He will need a fenced yard to release his energy b/c he tends to want to run show the world his utter handsomeness if not in the yard or on a leash. He's a very sweet boy that would love a home dedicated to total adoration of his superstar self, loving him forever.

VET DAY!!! Magoo went to see the internist yesterday b/c he'd been coughing. Since he has chronic airway disease, it was important to get ahead of it, as to prevent whatever is happening from getting worse. We also did a urinalysis after finding some accidents and more frequent urination, and also b/c of his history with UTIs in the past year or so. A urinalysis showed a very low specific gravity, so we went ahead and sent off a urine culture to see where we're at with things/infection and if anything additional is going on. If results don't give us answers, we'll check his first urine of the day next and see what that shows us. Meanwhile, for both issues, he is on antibiotics. When we hear back about the urine culture we'll see what doc wants to do next.
As always, he had a ball visiting with his friends, as you can tell by his huge grin and held up to his nickname, Mr Magoofball. 😁 He sulked when they brought him back to me and left him, though. 😕"Love ya foster mom, but they my pals!" I swear he'd be thrilled I ever abandoned him there. 😂
Keep our sweet love munchkin in your thoughts and prayers! 💞

VET DAY!! Magoo visited Doc today and it looks like he’s responded to the meds for his UTI! 🥳 So here’s hoping for no more. 🙏 The poor guy has enough going on, ya know? As always, he was the perfect gentleman, but he is worn out from all the excitement. Who knew cup holders could be so comfy?

Goodness, we have been blessed! A tremendous thank you to all that sent food donations and other goodies. As you can see, the duckies made them very happy! 😁
⭐️⭐️⭐️Chewy does not let us know who made the donation, so we hope this reaches everyone who did. I’m so very sorry we can’t thank you personally. I hate that we are unable. But THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!!❤️❤️❤️

People have asked what they can do to help us, but I’ve tried to be considerate of those who have it worse. But one thing we do need is the supplements we use. CALM, BREATHE and EASE by CBD Dog Health. We’ve used a great deal of the Calm bc of the storm and chaos, and Libby has to have it, as well as the Breathe. The combination helps not just her anxiety but her breathing. We’ve used Calm on almost everyone so we’re going through it quickly. We’ve used more Ease bc of this awful, nonstop humidity and its affect on Janie’s knee pain. They have become staples for us. There are a couple sizes and we can even use the Horse version for more bang for the buck, so whatever is good for you is good for us. Tap on their name above for their page or visit https://cbddoghealth.com. It can be mailed to PO Box 81086, Simpsonville, SC, 29680. Additionally, food is definitely welcomed which you can find on our Chewy or Amazon wishlists. Links below or you can visit our website under “How can I help?” Thank you!! 🩷

We’re dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Hundreds of thousands on our area alone are w/o power. We’ve have no power since Thursday evening, no internet, and phone/text are sketchy. Surprised IG even came up but don’t know if it will even post. It’s hot and miserable so please say a prayer for the dogs - hairy and special needs is rough in this weather with no AC (Thankful it’s not dead of summer) and the power company said it won’t be until Friday that they hope to have the power on. They, and my insulin, are my biggest concerns. I’m hoping we don’t run out of meds and that I can get Magoo’s ordered soon when phone decides to work properly . Right now I charge the phone in the car, eat cereal and drink room temp water, LOL, but we are safe and the house and fence are in tact. We have definitely been blessed. Whenever this can send, I hope it finds you all safe, as well. 🩷
