Halloween is almost here, but remember to keep your pets safe from the goodies! Chocolate, sugar-free candies, raisins and even wrappers can be toxic to pets, so keep all treats out of reach! If your pet accidentally eats candy, contact your vet immediately for proper treatment. 🎃🎃🎃

Sad news from us this Friday afternoon. After a long battle with chronic kidney disease and other health conditions, we made the decision to let our precious clinic cat, Yoda Más, take her final rest. We will love you forever, Mossy, thank you for an amazing 17.5 years.

🍂 While fall brings us beautiful scenery and delicious pumpkin drinks, the change in season also provides excellent conditions for fleas to thrive. The descending temperatures are ideal for fleas to reproduce, falling leaves provide them a place to live, and wild animal activity tends to increase in the fall, leading to a wider spread of flea eggs and larvae.

Flea allergy dermatitis is a skin condition that your pet can develop if it has been bitten by fleas. Many pets are allergic to flea saliva, and flea bites can cause severe itching. Scratching and biting to relieve the itch can cause hair loss, hot spots, and skin infection. Concerned about your pet’s itching? Give us a call to discuss proper treatment. 🍂

✨Senior Pet Spotlight✨

Meet Ollie, a 17 year young kitty who you may have seen a photo of on the wall of our lobby! Ollie was found injured as a kitten in rural Nebraska, and taken in by a young animal lover who got him medical care and a permanent home.

Throughout the years Ollie has faced a few medical complications, including the loss of his eye when he was around 10 years old (a long term complication from his prior injuries). When he was around 12, routine bloodwork showed the beginning stages of kidney failure, which is very common in older kitties.

Ollie receives regular subcutaneous fluids to supplement hydration, which in turn helps the kidneys function properly, as well as medications that are used to support kidney detoxification to improve overall wellbeing.

With this TLC, Ollie’s years have been extended, as well as a marked improvement in his quality of life. At 17, he still plays with the other cats in his home, terrorizes the dogs in his home, and gives the best snuggles to his human companions. We are so happy to be able to continue his care for as long as he needs.

September and October are senior wellness months!

Do you have a senior pet? It varies based on species and breed, but in general, many pets begin to show age-related physical changes around 7 years of age.

We recommend baseline bloodwork for our older friends. Why baseline? Because often times we can identify the beginnings of medical concerns before your pet starts showing symptoms. Early treatment can greatly increase your pet’s lifespan and quality of life.
