Apparently, today is Giving Tuesday. Who knew!

Here at the Tickled Pig, we give love, food, safety and a nice warm bed to over 80 animals. Animals that were bred to make someone money. Animals that came into an already overpopulated world due to lack of spaying and neutering. Animals that were born to become food for humans. Animals that were purchased with good intentions, and were very well loved, but life happens. Sadly, we cannot give every single animal a home, but we love the ones who lucked out and joined our family.

So for giving Tuesday, please remember to think of us here at the sanctuary. Buy a loaf of bread, a bag of carrots, a package of tomatoes, or a bag of frozen peas and come out to meet the pigs, ducks, roosters.

Please share with friends and family. We love having visitors.

7 am hockey practice

Niblet was happy to be up and out of bed early. We started harness training, followed by a meet & greet with people who passed by. She had her picture taken a few times. With a face like that, it’s obvious why she is so popular

Around 90% of pet pigs are rehomed, abandoned, or surrendered to sanctuaries in their first year of life.

If anyone is interested in loving this guy and giving him a home, he could use one. Please make it his forever home!

It makes me sad every single time I see pigs being sold or given away. This change can be a very stressful time for pigs. Imagine going to a new home where you do not know anyone and you don’t know why you are there. You will never see your family again. It sounds horrible, doesn’t it?!

I wish I could save them all, but the reality is, I cannot. It is costly to care for the over 80 animals we have at the sanctuary. I receive zero funding, yet everyone is fed from my income. Part of me says, “what’s one more?” while the other part of me knows that I will repeat this over and over again. Rescue work is a slippery slope.

Thank you Horsting's Farm Market for the donation of pumpkins for the piggies. We didn’t collect as many as we would have liked to, it was a long hockey weekend and we were ready to go home.

Years ago, when I started collecting pumpkins, it was colder and we had snow. I could spread the pumpkins in the yard. They would stay frozen for months. I would light a fire and roast pumpkin for the pigs all winter long. I miss those days
