Accio Exotics Welcome to Accio Exotics. This is a small time breeding project, located in Rigby ID, conjuring Gargoyle Geckos (R. Welcome to our haven! Enjoy!

Auriculatus) and hoping to expand into more New Caledonian species in the future! We've rescued, rehabilitated, and added to our collection of reptiles over the years. Throughout the years we have fallen in love with many different types of geckos, and have now started a small time breeding project that we hope to keep expanding on.

And here we have it… our current availability are all looking for new homes to ring in the new year! Looking to move these kiddos to open up some space for next season ☺️

Of course, the Clifford x Diablo babies will get a red base as they grow, and may gain orange blotching.
Tango, the Hex x Tijuana baby, will gain some more orange saturation in those stripes and likely keep the yellow base.

Parent photos in the comments and a pair of full siblings from the Clifford x Diablo pairing to give y’all an idea of what to expect as these kids mature. Grandparent photos available among request.

📩 please pm if you have any questions/concerns!

*These are young geckos and previous care with New Caledonian species is required for purchase*

I know the page has been a tad quiet lately, BUT it’s time to narrow down my holdback and baby racks! I’ll likely be releasing a couple gargoyles over the weekend, just gotta take some decent photos ☺️
As far as seasons go, this is pretty much the end of mine…. So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to get one of these babies, this is it 😉

Potential Alligator Snapping Turtle Hunting Technique Documented in Texas!

In what will arguably be labeled as the most fascinating chelonian natural history note of this century, the TSA-North American Freshwater Turtle Research Group has documented a never-before-seen hunting technique in Alligator Snapping Turtles.

“We were dumbfounded,” said TSA- North American Freshwater Turtle Research Group Director Eric Munscher. “Although herons are common in the trees lining Houston’s Buffalo Bayou, the sight of an Alligator Snapping Turtle is most definitely not.”

While performing routine sampling for their long-term Alligator Snapping Turtle population assessment in the bayou, the team heard loud squawking coming from one of the overhanging oaks. Team member Arron Tuggle looked up to see what was disturbing the birds who roost there.

“I looked up in the tree and, at first, didn’t see what was causing the heron disturbance. It just wasn’t normal,” said Tuggle. “Then I noticed a large anomalous object that blended well amongst the tree limbs.”

What came next was astounding. The large object seen by Tuggle moved. The team stopped what they were doing to focus on the object. After several minutes of staring and questioning what it was, Rachel Adams exclaimed, “OMG, it’s a turtle!” This was not even in the realm of perceived possibilities. It was, after all, roughly 30-feet above ground level.

The turtle under scrutiny was an adult Western Alligator Snapping Turtle (Macrochelys temminckii). This species has been seen basking on fallen tree trunks, but never before within a tree’s canopy. With regular flooding in the Houston area, the team surmised that the only way a large snapping turtle could be in a tree at such heights was that it was deposited there by a flood event. The problem with this notion, however, was that there have not been any recent flood events of a magnitude to displace a turtle to these heights. But, something unusual was occurring.

Grabbing binoculars from his car, Chris Drake watched the turtle closely. And, he saw something miraculous. The turtle appeared to be strategically moving its head in the direction of the herons as they moved from limb to limb and, it was, as Drake said, “actively moving the lure-like appendage in its mouth.” This luring movement is deployed by Alligator Snapping Turtles to attract and ambush fish underwater, but its use on wading birds, and at a height of 30 feet is unprecedented.

The team will continue to monitor this turtle’s activity, make theories as to how it ascended to such heights, and further explore this unusual and unprecedented aerial ambush technique. It’s the team’s goal to publish this observation in the scientific journal Herpetology April Fools' Notes.

With the snow balling legislation pelting the United States in regards to herpetoculture... I wanted to find new and better ways of supporting USARK and everything they do for us in the hobby, day in and day out. We got cards! I’ll be handing these out with every order, at shows, seeing if local shops and other breeders will follow suit. We’re stronger together!

Let’s talk about “pastels.”

The term means something a little different in each type of reptile... For Gargoyle Geckos specifically, its turned into a muddied, loose term.

Philippe de Vosjoli, Allen Repashy, and Frank Fast wrote a book about Gargoyles in the past. Granted, it could stand to be updated, but they explained the pastel color as “a dilution of color intensity.” They expressed the colors would be faded, pale, and washed-out.

As we all know, gargoyle geckos do change in color from a “fired down” pale/faded version of the “fired up” bright/vivid version.

The gecko community has been loosely applied the pastel term to fired down animals, especially red or yellow based animals based on this definition... I’m gonna be a little more picky.

To me, a fired down animal is just that, fired down. I think the pastel gene should be held to a different standard, and I recently heard it explained as “the animal indefinitely fired-down.” This can be tricky, sure. Some animals can be a serious pain to fire, especially with age... but with time, you’ll be able to divide the stubborn animals with the true non-firers.

With the few animals that have expressed this, it doesn’t seem to easily pass onto offspring... instead, we’ll be lucky if it modifies the color expression at all. Hopefully with time, we can figure out the tricks, and get more on the market!

But... here we are, introducing Willow 🤩
She doesn’t fire any darker than these photos. She is 30 some grams, still growing, and I’ve tried every trick in the book to get her darker... none have prevailed. I’ve found a few big names in the industry to confirm, that this girl is indeed a true pastel, and I’m incredibly lucky to have her in my collection! 💕

Why Accio?

Welcome to my haven! My name is ShiAnna Holt, and reptiles are my world. What started out to be an innocent fascination, has ended up a full fledged passion with the magical world of selective breeding. What comes with that passion, is the goal to build that interest in other people, and to make my mark with the quality of animals I produce.

I’ve rescued, rehabilitated, and added to my collection of exotics over the years. Throughout this, I’ve have fallen in love with many different types of geckos, between their vibrant colors and attitudes, and have now started a small time breeding project that I hope to keep expanding on. My focus for now falls with Gargoyle Geckos (R. Auriculatus) with a goal add many other New Caledonian species in the future.

Previously Scales of Sarpedon, Accio Exotics has been breeding since 2016. The name change was modified mid 2019, because it signified a turning point in my program. This is the year for more expos, for improving quality, and for summoning only the best for my customers.

Take a look through my albums and let me know if you have any questions!
