A sweetie to adopt in HOUSTON, TX 💕

UPDATE BY SHELTER 02/14: THORA LEFT SHELTER ADOPTED WITH NEW FAMILY!!. prayers she is now blessed and loved!!

**SECOND CALL FOR THIS DOG LEFT BEHIND BECAUSE HER FAMILY IS HAVING A BABY!! GETTING URGENT!!! **SWEET THORA WAS LEFT BEHIND AT SHELTER BY HER OWNERS AFTER HAVE A BABY (human) SO SHE IS NOT LONGER PART OF THE FAMILY** cases like Thora makes me so mad, WHY in first place you get a dog, if your plan is have a family later and NOT KEEP them forever with you, growing up with your children??..WHY you do this to them??..THORA cannot smile facing the camera, even when her owner (holding the leash) is trying to pose for her possible last picture alive. How they can move on and leave their "pet" behind???..Thora didn't deserve this, NEVER!..she is another innocent victim of crap people, sorry, is what it is. THORA is labeled as Corgi, has all the shape of one, picture is not the best, but you could see her sad face...she could be mix or not. SHE has 2 more days to be saved by adoption or rescue, SHE IS SPAYED, hw negative, friendly with people and other dogs (shares her kennel with another dog). PLEASE SHARE!..and for her owners, is your lost, sad your child will never enjoy growing up with such a great companion.

Tis the season ! this is the time of the year that we start getting e mails and applications for our dogs/pups as christmas gifts !
We have never have and never will adopt any animal as a gift at any time of the year and this is why...and although i get nasty e mails telling me I'm mean etc.. i personally don't care... my dogs come first not someones selfish ego because they think they are entitled to give a dog as gift.. or as one person argued with me it was a surprise not a gift !! same difference.. not going to happen..not all surprises are good ones...

As soon as the shelters open , just like the stores.. the unwanted christmas gifts start getting returned..and we as rescues get the emails asking if we can take in the cute puppy that a well meaning grandchild gave their 83 year old grandma.. yes... last year i received an e mail to take in an 8 week old, un vaccinated jack russell terrier mix pup that grandma was given and he was just too much for her to look after..
grandma may not want a cute puppy...if you really want to give someone any animal.. make up a pretty gift certificate that says they can go to any shelter of their choice in january and pick out a companion for themselves.. one that they want.... not one that you think they want.. animals should never be given as a gift..

We get the applications that say that they want a puppy as its a great time to introduce the new pup to the family, they are off work for two weeks and the kids are out of school.. yes. we agree you should always be able to spend some time introducing a new family member..but what happens when you go back to work and the kids go to school..the little puppy that has had lots of attention and people to love on him is suddenly left alone all day 8- 10 hrs.. they get bored and lonely and start chewing and being destructive.. thrown out in the yard on their own or get stuck in a crate all day long, they whine, cry, bark and do not get house trained and if you are in an apt. the neighbors start to complain about the noise.. so what happens..the pup gets given away or taken to the shelter.. we see so many dogs in that 6 months to 1 year age range at the shelters that never got house trained and have separation anxiety.. before you take on any animal think long term about how you are going to look after that new member of the family not just for the holidays.. dogs have feelings and needs as well .

Most people have lots of activity in their homes over the holidays, people coming and going, doors getting left open and the new pup gets forgotten and runs out of the door, gets lost or hit by a car ..or they get left out in the yard and get out.. yes it happens..quite often.. just wait for all of the fb posts on dogs that get lost over the holidays..people are careless and don't think...

I see some many rescues promoting dogs and puppies as great gifts for christmas. so wrong on so many fronts..how many of those dogs will be returned or dumped once the excitement of christmas is over..i see pups being adopted at Petsmart etc with only 1 or if they are lucky 2 sets of shots.. all pups need 3 to be protected from disease and most of them will not get all of the shots they need..

yes I'm scrooge.. I'm mean and no one is getting one of my dogs/pups as a gift, the only dogs we have going to new homes
this month are dogs that were adopted last month and had to wait until they were ready to travel..

I am going to sleep well at night knowing that my dogs will be with me and my fosters for the holidays and next year will find the forever home they have waited for and deserve and then we will start taking in the unwanted gifts that get turned into the shelters and finding them better homes as well..

SENIOR ALERT** SWEET SENIOR LABRADOR MIX, 9 YRS OLD, IMPOUND AT HARRIS AC, HAS SHORT TIME TO BE SAVED BY RESCUE OR ADOPTION!** this girl got my heart, like every senior, I couldn't deny to try to crosspost for her. She is one more stray who maybe never make it on the streets. Her smile in the intake pic shows how much relief she felt when was out of the streets and under some AC. But we know been at shelter means is to be safe yet, she was evaluated, is spayed, is around 9 yrs old, has several growths around her body (which is normal in our dogs when get old), she maybe deaf, was found laying not responding to the officer until they put her on a leash. She has arthritis in her rear legs, and eye discharge that shelter is treating for. DEFINITELY she needs a HERO! needs help with special loving family who will love her the way she is, giving her that home she deserves, or rescue group who can help her to find it.
