On June 28th this dog was brought into the pound by YPD. Someone had called them and told them they had just found him that night.
The next morning someone else called us stating that he wasn’t a stray. That his “owner” had called him in as a stray. That she just didn’t want him anymore.
Today-July 11th-his REAL OWNER came in to take him home. He has been missing for 3 MONTHS. Sadly whoever found him when he got lost-kept him until she no longer wanted him.…..rather than look for his owner or call us immediately to come and get him. He should have been returned to his family 3 months ago. How horribly sad. He was so scared here. He has been through quite a nightmare.

If you find a stray PLEASE post on Facebook in the lost and found pages. Have them scanned for a chip. Report as found to your local pound.

The first place someone should look for their dog is the Dog Pound.

A found dog is NOT YOURS TO KEEP!

Dog owners PLEASE put ID tags on your dog! Dog license tag, rabies tag and personal ID tag. There are collars that you can purchase that have your phone number stitched onto them.

Microchips are great if the contact info is kept up to date. (We rarely see that happen though.) Also a finder has to physically take the dog to be scanned.

Identification on the collar is the quickest way to get your dog home. We see countless posts here on Facebook of found dogs with no ID who the finder can’t hold onto. The dog gets let go or handed over to someone else or immediately rehomed. So many dangers out there. We live in a scary world where people do horrible things. PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOGS SAFE.

Cruz has been through God knows what these past 3 months. He is one of the lucky ones who made it home though. Many don’t.

‼️UPDATE: We are thrilled to announce that our power is up and running. We now have enough ice, peanut butter and Kiddie pools! Thank you for your donations and support.

➡️ We still need your help! The Franklin County Dog Shelter does not need any more ice. However, we are in need of bedding or large towels, peanut butter for frozen treats to give to our pups, and kiddie pools!

Feel free to drop off donations anytime before closing @ 7pm. We truly appreciate our community!

🌡 Some dogs do handle the heat better than others, but educate yourself on ways to lower risks and how to handle the worse case scenarios.

Use your best judgement on what your personal pet/working dog can handle and stay visual to their body language.

"COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — All of the cages at the Franklin County Dog Shelter are completely full.

Officials said they are taking in twice as many dogs as they have going out.

"Our numbers have been between 650 to 300 dogs and that is an extremely high number of dogs to have in the shelter at one given time," said Dwayne Young, Franklin County Dog Shelter assistant director."

UPDATE: Quincy has ended up finding his forever home with one of our staff members. 😊

Do you have a spot in your heart and home for the sweetest senior, special needs fella ever? Meet handsome Quincy!

Quincy is a 12 year old Doberman Pinscher who recently came to us needing a new forever home after his owner passed away. Quincy has been diagnosed with heartworm and heart disease, so he will need to maintain a close relationship with a veterinarian to maintain his care. FAHS will continue Quincy's heartworm treatment but he will also be on daily medications for heart disease that his adopter will need to continue.

Quincy is a quiet, stoic guy but he absolutely loves to be with people! His favorite thing in the world is to lay his head in your lap while you rub his ears. He will happily be by your side all day long to soak up attention. He has wonderful leash manners and loves to go for leisurely walks. Quincy doesn't mind cats, gets along well with dogs, and previously lived with children. As a condition of his heartworm treatment, Quincy will need a quiet home that can keep him calm.

Quincy has had a full workup with our veterinarians and his quality of life at this time is still great, but we do consider him to be a hospice case due to his age and health issues. He is such a kind boy and deserves a family to love him for the rest of his days.

If you think your family could be the right match for Quincy, an adoption application can be submitted at fairhumane.org.

Short clips of Seth working on "come" and "sit" upon his return. Then him in the tunnel for giggles!

I am in the process of editing a longer video from this weekend. I am only a volunteer and work fulltime elsewhere, so some updates are going to take longer than others. Thank you for understanding... now go adopt this sweet, bunny hopping, boy named SETH!

This page is ran by a STUDENT VOLUNTEER dog trainer at Licking County Dog Shelter in Heath, OH. I am a current student at Animal Behavior College for basic obedience in dog training. My mentor is Dennis Boothe of Hannah's Hill Dog Training in Dresden, OH.

The dogs you see on this page are currently adoptable when posted. Please visit the shelter directly to inquire about any dogs you see here.

My goal is to help these dogs learn to be desirable canine citizens and help get them into their forever homes. I am here to assist them and you!
