It's goat tagging time! We are doing virtual again this year. This post provides the guidelines and deadlines for the process. Please share this with other goat exhibitors that might not be on our page. It is also posted on the Shiawassee County Fair page and website.

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY FAIR MARKET GOAT MANDATORY CHECK IN
For three years, we have used a virtual method to tag all market goats for the fair. We will use this same virtual method for the 2023 Shiawassee County Fair. The following will take the place of the May tagging date.
1. All goats must be born after January 1, 2023. This is the same rule which has always been in place.
2. The goats must be in the exhibitor possession by May 1, 2023. Again, this rule has always been in place. You can still “tag” in two goats with only one going to the Fair.
3. By May 13 at 5 p.m., we will need a picture of your goat and goat’s ear WITH the scrapie tag in it. The FULL scrapie tag number including the state issued farm number and the identification number (for example MIJ1010, 234) must be clearly visible in the picture.
4. If purchased the goat out of state, copies of the out of state health papers must be sent with picture. This rule has always been in the fair book. You can scan and send the papers with the picture.
5. If goat is from your own herd, a copy of your premise ID letter must also be included. This rule has always been in the book as well. Again, scan and include with email.
6. If you purchased the goat, a copy of the Owner Statement of Transfer must also be included. This rule has also been in the book.
To streamline this, we need entry information to be emailed to [email protected] with Subject Line: “Goat Tag Info – Your first and last name.” If email is not an option, hard copies can be mailed to Dawn at 3105 Krouse Road Owosso MI 48867. Both email and hard copy must be received by May 13 at 5 p.m. Any entries received after that date will not be accepted.
We look forward to receiving your goat data and assigning a SCF tag which will be placed in the goat’s ear at health check-in on August 6. If you have any questions, please contact Dawn at 989-666-4044.
Sincerely,
Shiawassee County Fair Goat Department

Brandi from Farm Bureau just reached out to me. Oliver Woods retirement home asked if farm bureau could arrange to have some farm animals parade past their window for the residents to see. Brandi specifically was looking for a few goats. And she knew I was the goat gal here in Shiawassee County. LOL - if you were interested in walking by the resident’s windows and see them smile - using social distancing and required to wear a mask - please reach out to Brandi and let her know. Her number is 725-5174. The date for the goat walk by is Thursday, August 6 from 10 AM to 12 PM.

Just a reminder that May 13th is the deadline to submit your market goat information.

As you know, this year has been filled with many challenges. The Shiawassee County Fair Board of Directors has, to comply with the stay at home -stay safe orders, cancelled all fair and non-fair activities for the months of April and May. The office is closed until June 1, 2020.
With the cancellation of fair activities in May, we must use a different method to tag all market goats for the 2020 Shiawassee County Fair. The following will take the place of the May 9 tagging date.
1. All goats must be born after January 1, 2020. This is the same rule which has always been in place.

3. By May 13, we will need a picture of your goat and goats ear WITH the scrapies tag in it, the FULL scrapie tag number including the state issued farm number and the identification number (for example MIJ1010, 234) must be clearly visible in the picture.
