Port Aransas South Jetty

Folks who work at waterfront businesses in Port Aransas said fishing has been good recently as anglers compete in the 83rdannual Deep Sea Roundup this weekend.

Offshore anglers have been bringing in kingfish, shark, wahoo and mahi mahi, according to Sharon Keehlisen, an employee at Woody’s Sport Center.
She said those fishing with bay guides have been catching black drum, redfish and speckled trout, while others fishing aboard the Island Queen II have been reeling in sand trout, gafftop and redfish.
Limits of speckled trout have been biting for anglers using piggy perch while fishing in the surf, Keehlisen said.
Aboard boats departing from Fisherman’s Wharf, folks have been bringing in red snapper and blacktip shark, said Nichole Evans, an employee.
Nancy Klassen, an employee at Dolphin Dock, said red snapper, kingfish, grouper and mahi mahi have been biting for anglers fishing offshore.
On 4-hour trips, people have been hooking red snapper, kingfish and stingray, she said.
Bonnethead and blacktip shark up to 4-feet long have been biting recently for anglers fishing from Horace Caldwell Pier, said Blake Wallingsford, an employee at Keepers, a shop on the pier.
Folks also have been bringing in speckled trout, sand trout and whiting, he said.
