I decided to get the whelping box out so Eden could get use to it. It’s filled with blankets so she can rest. Ferncroft has taken it upon herself to support E! Wait Z is to!

Day 43 of Eden’s pregnancy. Thus far Eden is doing well with her pregnancy. She is walking about mile tops outback with her pack and takes a dip in the vernal pool to cool off. We spend a lot of time napping in the sun or under the bed. Her appetite is pretty good and we continue to feed high quality kibble and snacks.

We are getting organized to get ready for pups in a few weeks!!

We will be sharing more as the weeks go by with Eden and Alpine’s litter!

Ferncroft Litters : FYI

The Helping Hands Litter: was named after working on the front lines during Covid 2020 and raising a litter! This litter was our first and challenging in many ways!! Our success was from the helping hands who guided us, visited us and breeders who helped us. We are forever grateful.

All Things Considered Litter: was based upon Ferncroft! We had to consider everything when breeding her again. We thought for sure she would not have 11 pups again-she did! Boy were we surprised!

Eden’s upcoming litter has yet to be named. This litter will be based off of our current life and what these pups represent to us. Most likely something outdoorsy. Especially after being with Cosmo as he lives in one of my favorite places. Sandwich NH.

Zealand has always been my primary hiking partner. I love this photo of him on a back country camping trip! Its hard to believe he will be 11 in a few weeks!

Eden will have her xrays for a puppy count on his birthday June 27th! I didnt plan it that way it was meant to be done that day.

Eden’s favorite nap spot is under the bed! For an active Chinook girl Eden is slowing down. I have let her decide how far we walk in the morning. She spends her day hanging outback with us or sits in the car while we do yard work! I think her Mom Ferncroft taught her this because they all do it! She is eating a high quality kibble with cooked meats and veggies and fruits everyday. We have let our front lawn grow and she enjoys laying in the cool grass in the morning and evening. Right now she still loves a car ride to the coffee shop for a biscuit! Most of all she just wants to be near her pack. We are starting to prepare for puppies and just enjoying these moments.

Ferncroft Chinooks is named after this beautiful area in New Hampshire. Ferncroft is an unincorporated community. My dog Ferncroft is the founding dam of our kennel. My dogs Zealand and Fern are from Intervale Chinooks. So every time I see this sign it feels full circle. It’s time to go back!

FYI

The majority of Chinooks are shades of the preferred tawny color. Chinooks have historically come in other colors, though, including dilute tawny, black and tan, gray and tan, and buff (a cream color). In more modern times, there have even been a few solid black Chinooks.

These non-tawny colors are acceptable per the UKC standard, and have ALWAYS been an integral part of the breed. As you can see from these photos, there were non-tawny Chinooks that worked with Arthur Walden and Chinook (the dog) himself.

Chinooks will always be associated mainly with tawny coats, but the COA and UKC celebrate the rainbow of traditional and historic colors of the Chinook, and the healthy diversity that they bring.

Ferncroft The Alpine Zone was bred to Maple Lane Oskar this morning!! Alpine and Oskar have met several times and this was an easy natural breeding! Pregnancy confirmation will be mid June.
