When hot a great treat for the dogs very easy also

***WARNING***

While we all love to see the sunshine 😎🌞 we can't emphasise enough the dangers of over-exercising your dogs in hot weather.

Please remember that dogs can't self-regulate their temperatures. It is our duty to protect them from the heat. If you have any queries or concerns please ring your local vet. Remember, Irish dogs are not accustomed to hot weather.

Heatstroke can hit quickly and it can be deadly, please don't assume it won't happen to your dog.

Older dogs, overweight dogs and
brachycephalic dogs are at an increased risk during hot weather.

Some tips to help keep your dog cool 👉👉👉

🔷️Keep your dogs indoors, somewhere cool with access to water.

🔷️ When outside, ensure they have access to shade and water

🔷️Freeze some treat filled Kongs or Lickimats for them

🔷️Leave out a damp blanket for them to lie on or get them a cooling mat.

🔷️ Don't leave them in the car

🔷️When weather is really hot, only walk your dogs early in the morning and late in the evening.

Some signs of heat stress 👉👉👉

🔷️Excessive panting and short of breath

🔷️Excessive drooling

🔷️Changes in gum color or tongue (bright or dark red)

🔷️Elevated body temperature

🔷️Increased pulse and heartbeat

🔷️Excessive thirst

🔷️Disorientation, stumbling or weakness

🔷️Vomiting

Please use common sense and don't put your dogs at risk.

TOBIE

This poor little girl has had quite a change since her owner had to go into a nursing home, and she needs a sympathetic new human to help her through it all.

We think Tobie is about 7 years old, and although she only has three legs, it doesn't seem to bother her at all. She had to undergo major surgery after she arrived to us and has recovered well from it all.

Tobi does get quite anxious though and will need time and patience to settle in her new home. She is in a caring foster home right now but she would make a great companion for an older person who is at home a lot.

Tobie needs company 24/7 and that includes at night time, so if you don't like dogs in the bedroom then Tobi is not for you!!

🔷️ Microchip no: 981020000797597 🔷️

🐾A home check and an adoption donation are required

Gardaí are appealing to the public to take extra crime prevention measures when it comes to caring for your pet, particularly high-value breeds of dogs.

If a dog is stolen, it’s important to act quickly:
- Immediately report the theft to Gardaí.
- Report the loss to your local authority, your vet and your dog’s microchip company.
- Spread the word on social media – post clear photos and detailed descriptions both on your profile and any other groups and pages you are connected with and encourage people to share quickly.
- Create posters and flyers, distribute these around your local community. Check your insurance policy, it might be able to cover some of these costs.
- Report the theft on as many missing animal websites as you can and keep an eye out on social media and selling pages.

In the instance where a lost animal is found, ensure the rightful owner is being contact before returning them.

If you asked me to name the single most important thing you can do for your dog, it would be this.

Keep your dog feeling safe.

This is not to be confused with your dog being safe, or whether or not you think your dog is safe. This is about keeping your dog *feeling* safe. Which means identifying what your dog finds stressful or scary by learning how to observe and read their body language to recognize when, where, and under what circumstances they feel uncomfortable, and doing whatever you can to avoid those situations.

This can mean that your dog never visits another dog park.

This can mean that even though it’s a beautiful Sunday and you’d love to have brunch on a patio of your favorite restaurant with your dog, your dog stays home.

This can mean that you politely (or not) decline requests to pet your dog.

This can mean that when children come over your house, your dog is in another room with a yummy Kong.

This can mean that you walk your dog during quiet times of the day.

This can mean that you drive your dog to walk them in a different area.

Whatever it means for you and your dog, keep your dog feeling safe.

You are your dog’s best and only advocate. You are what stands between them and the rest of the world, a world where dogs are set up to fail every day with often heartbreaking consequences. This doesn’t mean that we don’t also actively and *humanely* work to help our dogs feel more comfortable and confident in this world, but it does mean that until they do, WE HAVE TO KEEP THEM FEELING SAFE.

Our dogs are relying on us, it’s our job to have their backs.

Some weather we are having at the moment but remember if your thinking about going for a walk today with your dog early morning late evening or even night is best paths are extremely hot and will burn their paws they can’t sweat like we do so maybe let them chill out in the shade at home instead enjoy the weather all!
