Snake Bites and Pets

In the warmer summer months, snakes become much more active. Because of this, pet owners must be careful to protect their pets from snake bites, and to be aware of the warning signs in case their animal is bitten.

What should I do if I think my pet has been bitten by a snake?

If you think your pet has been bitten by a snake, keep him calm and quiet, and take him to a veterinarian immediately. The chances of recovery are greater if he is treated early (80 per cent), with some pets making a recovery within 48 hours. Pets who are left untreated have a much lower survival rate.

If your veterinarian is far away, you will need to apply first aid. Keep your pet calm and quiet, and apply a pressure bandage – a firm bandage placed over and around the bite site – to help slow the venom from spreading to his heart. Do not wash the wound or apply a tourniquet.

If you can identify the snake, tell your veterinarian, but don’t try to catch or kill the snake. If the snake is dead, you can bring it with you. Otherwise, there is a blood or urine test that can identify whether your pet has been bitten and the type of snake that was responsible.

Once the snake has been identified, your veterinarian can administer antivenom. Please be warned that antivenom is quite expensive and can result in a hefty veterinary bill.

If you are walking your dog close to bushland, especially near water during the summer months, please keep him on a lead and avoid long grassy areas. Keep the grass low in your backyard or property, clean up any rubbish piles and clear away objects where snakes may be able to hide e.g., under sheets of corrugated metal, wood piles, etc.

Tin food = Junk food

𝗗𝗢 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨'𝗥𝗘 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗗𝗢𝗚?

Lots of small dogs are fed tinned food with lovely labeling and packaging that makes them believe they're feeding a very high-quality diet—the problem is, they don't look at the ingredients.

👉 𝗟𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀.

👉 𝗟𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱.

⚠️ This tinned recipe is called 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗬 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗡, the word "with" is actually a very worrisome word in pet food because it means that they only have to have 3% of that ingredient.

🫢 When we look at the ingredients, we can see that the first ingredient shows us that it could also include beef, sheep, pork or turkey which is problematic for dogs with food sensitivities and allergies.

❌ 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮: Your dog does not need pasta, it is not a healthy food, and it is not a species-appropriate food. It is a high-carb, low-nutrient cheap filler food that means that can use less animal protein.

🫶 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱.

😍 Many small dog owners may be surprised that they can afford to feed a high higher quality diet that is more species-appropriate because the volume of food many adult small dogs eat isn't going to break the bank.

🚗 Head to your pet food store, then go to the freezer section, you're going to be looking for frozen/chilled balanced fresh food diets (either cooked or raw). Look at the ingredients because just like tinned and dry foods, they can use the likes of rice and pasta which we don't want.

In Australia, look for brands like Big Dog, Prime100, Dr B's & Proudi which can often be easily found in most large pet shop chains.

🦷 Once you start feeding these more species appropriate diets not laiden with sticky carbs, you'll find that your time between dentals will be longer or you may not even need them anymore! Add raw meaty bones such lamb/beef/roo necks/spines/tails to their enrichment twice a week and you'll find that helps maintain your dogs dental health. In Sydney, we love World 4 Pets for a big v variety of bones great for dental health as well as all our fresh food feeding supplies - they also deliver to many parts of Australia.

Little fatties growing nicely! Everyone plugged into the milk bar 🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼.
We still have 1-2 more spots available for potential new homes. We don’t allocate puppies to homes until after we’ve had the litter evaluated at around 6 weeks plus. After our next show prospect is chosen, we can match puppy personalities to what our applicants are looking for in their next companion 🐶

(Both going to a great home together! )
Frankie is a red 8months old male pedigree miniature poodle and looking for a forever home.
Frankie is a cute and happy boy.
He will only go to an approved companion home after meeting him in person.

Poppy is a black 8months old female pedigree miniature poodle and looking for a forever home.
Poppy has a glorious thick black coat and a loving personality. She would suit a home without young children and a relaxed vibe.

Both mum and dad and DNA health tested clear and these two a DNA clear by parentage. Dad is an Australian champion with an outgoing playful temperament. Mum also has a loving playful personality and loves a good snuggle on the couch.

These puppies I kept back from my last litter for my show team but didn’t work out. Only available to the best of homes and will need a meet and greet in person.

Please call us for information about cost and to tell us a little bit about yourself and home environment.
Price is negotiable for the right home but this is already a heavily reduced price to my usual puppy price for a healthy quality pet.

Located Lismore NSW but could meet on Gold Coast for meet and greet.

Frankie is 7months old pedigree miniature poodle and looking for a new forever home.

Frankie is a cute and happy boy, the only reason for rehome is because he’s not suitable for showing or breeding as he is on the smaller size.
He will only go to an approved companion home after meeting him in person. He does get car sick but will probably grow out of this.
Please PM or email us for information about cost and to tell us a little bit about yourself and home environment.

Located Lismore NSW but could meet on Gold Coast or Brisbane for meet and greet.
