Organizer, Musicians Wildlife Rehab and Release Page She is in need of much-needed funding. There is no charge to attend, no tickets needed, and children accompanied by parents are welcome.

Patti Stangel's Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release Center near Colfax, WI, has been serving West-central Wisconsin and beyond, feeding, housing, seeking veterinarian help when needed for over 15 years. Every year, the many talented musicians of the Chippewa Valley gather bi-annually to play their music live all afternoon, giving freely of their time and talent, asking nothing more in return than

donations given to Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release to help sustain the wonderful work that Patti Stangel does: driving hundreds of miles to rescue injured animals and birds; feeding and housing them, seeing to their every need including any needed trip to local veterinarians. In addition, local merchants and artisans donate products and their works in a large silent auction; freshly baked foodstuffs are also available for sale and silent auctions are held throughout the day.

It's this time of year that Patti Stangel's Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release needs everyone to be completely absorbed with the true meaning of Christmas; to make room in our hearts to share as much as we can with Patti's true calling; bringing hope to all her "critters"- all the birds and animals that are so lovingly in her care.
Now Patti isn't asking any of us to "break the bank" at a time when giving to family should always be first.
But in the true spirit of Christmas, if all of us would sit down for a moment and write a check for $5.00, or $10- whatever you are comfortable with, it would make a world of difference to a woman who has dedicated her life and love to creatures in need, always putting her charges in the best situation possible to heal and return to the wild.
If you are so inspired, please write your check to:

snd mail it to the following address:

Patti Stangel wants all to know that these are two examples of how we can be certain that Spring has arrived. On the left: a baby Sa-whet Owl named "Dillon" - on the right two bluejays whom she has named "Bert" and "Ernie". She is really in need of fresh funding after harsh Winter took its toll on many cages.
If you can spare any amount, please send Patti a personal check made out to Wildlife Rehab and Release and mail it to Patti Stangel, WR&R E9356 830th Avenue, Colfax WI 54730.

AND BLESS YOU!

I spoke with Patti just last night. She was bone-tired as usual but in good spirits. She was thrilled to have found a better, less expensive source for the thousands of dollars she must spend for the frozen dead rats needed for the rehabbing raptors.
She had a really rough Monday due to a phone call from a woman in Minnesota who found an injured rabbit and wanted Patti to go over and get it.
After Patti explained that there are state laws about bringing in animals from another state and that even Wisconsin veterinarians could lose their license unless protocols are followed, the woman became really verbally abusive, calling Patti all sorts of unprintables- Patti could not get a word in edgewise.
I told her that she is way to patient with these kinds of “people “ and that she should have just hung up on her - but that’s not Patti.
She did say she’s thinking about getting a referee’s whistle and giving witches and buttholes a blast over the phone when needed.
She is really in desperate straits right now, money-wise and I want to personally thank those who have responded with donations of checks.
My friend Kay Pence In Arizona recently sent a very generous donation.
If you can spare any amount, mail a check made out to Wildlife Rehab and Release, mail it to E9356 830 th Avenue, Colfax 54730 or contact me through Venmo and I will immediately forward it to her.

News: RE: Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release
Recently, Patti Stangel, owner, and operator of Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release asked Kim and me to come out to the complex for a thorough inspection of the animals, birds, and the shelters in which they are housed.
At the end of September, Patti celebrated her 70th birthday. Also, Monday, October 11, marked a landmark ten years in operation.
Kim and I have been actively involved with Patti’s operation from the very start when she housed her charges at her home on Hamilton Avenue, Eau Claire. As the operation grew, it became evident that she would need a much larger facility to handle all the incoming animals and birds in need of help.
We were among the first to be invited out to her new location outside of Colfax, Wisconsin, and to see the excitement and enthusiasm she emanated that day. In addition to a larger home, the property has a very large “machine shed”, which she immediately put to good use, housing the sick, wounded, and recovering animals and birds.
But that was just the beginning. Patti is not a wealthy woman, money-wise. But I know of no one wealthier regarding compassion and heart when it comes to the love and care of “her critters”. Anyone who knows Patti well knows that in the past she had been very efficient as a cafe owner, a tavern owner, and a professional photographer.
However, when she took the reins as WWR’s leader all those years ago, it was very evident that she had found her life’s love and work. In fact, work is not the correct word at all because she loves her “job” and it is not a job to her at all. IT IS HER LIFE’S CALLING.
However, I have watched her attempt to do almost every aspect of the operation on her own. I have also watched her continual weight loss, with some alarm. It is understandable that Patti feels responsible for each and every rescue. I have personally witnessed how much she grieves with the loss of any of her “critters” lives.
Patti has always somehow managed to stay afloat through good times and bad. However, the pandemic has really taken its toll on her and the entire operation. Because of the pandemic, we have not been able to do the Chippewa Valley Musicians WWR Fundraisers since the Fall of 2020.
It is frustrating, depressing, and downright angering to me to know that all the generosity of so many good and talented musicians must now remain idle.
So what’s the answer? How do we, as a community, stand with Patti, who has in the past ten years taken in an estimated 1400 animals to date. How do we tell her we have her back when, pandemic or not, she gets thirty to fifty calls a day for rescue help?
As Kim and I toured each cage, Patti explained that there are so many needs right now: a distinct lack of funding via tax-deductible donations - 501 (C) (3), so many shelter upkeep needs: treated wood, tarpaulins, cage fence wiring for 50-foot flight cages, a need for 2 additional 8X16 foot cages, some kind of metal panels to make slanted roofs on cages for easier snow removal in the upcoming Winter months.
Patti is financially unable to hire someone to double-check the strength of current caging and latches or provide much-needed baled straw for creature bedding. If you, or someone you know, has the expertise or the needed materials, please, please let Patti know that you have her back.
If you have lost a loved one, a release “In Memory Of” is a possibility as well.
I do not want to make this sound all “Doom and Gloom”. Patti is aggressively looking into fundraisers at Festival Foods, Markquart Motors, Scheels Sports, and Mazda Motors. If you see an opportunity to vote for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release as a recipient of any of these grants, please let them know how important Patti’s work is to you, to me, to all of the Chippewa Valley that cares about the welfare of our wildlife.
I want to mention some of the “good guys” who have gone out of their way to help: Dave at Florian Gardens, The Lake Hallie Eagles Club, Elizabeth Fischer, who uses Zoom to get Seasonal Info out on tape right from Patti’s location, Jim Zons who filmed a great horned owl release near Elk Mound.
Patti also wants to thank Taylor Melan and Scott Konsela for taking time out of their already over-busy schedules to help her.
Patti told us what will happen without help: she will have to cut back on rescues, not replace or build new cages, while her suppliers continually raise prices on her animals’ food. This is not an option as far as I am concerned, nor should it be for any of us.
Please do something . . . anything . . . that you can so that Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release can continue to provide.

Hi, everybody! People all think that I am"Rocky Raccoon" but that's because of those crazy mophead Beatles! My name is "Bandit" and I am just out of hibernation and my stomach is rumbling as loud as a Spring thunderstorm! I used to be able to raid bird feeders but lots of humans got wise to me and started locking them away every night. What do I have to do? Hurt myself so that some kind soul will call Patti Stangel? Listen. She's already got more than enough mouths to feed this time of year. So somebody! Anybody! gimme a break! Oh . . . if you do find one of my brothers or sisters that needs help, please do call Patti Stangel at Wildlife Rehab and Release, Colfax, WI., and tell her that Bandit sent you! And I promise if you do that, I will wash everything that I eat. You should wash your hands, too. I don't know if you heard or not but there's a "thing" going around that's killing humans.

No! Do not get OTTER here! There are items that need to be addressed:

* Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release became tax-exempt on October 7, 2011. October 27th, 2021 will mark the 10th Anniversary of WR&R under the watchful care of Ms. Stangel, an angel of mercy.

*If the imbecilic recent moves of the shriveldick governors of Texas and Mississippi are somehow contained, an Autumn, 2021 HOOTENANNY - Musicians' Fundraiser is a distinct possibility. The funds previously raised have been sorely missed.

* Currently Patti's costs are skyrocketing with the near arrival of Spring: She must order species-specific Spring formula for the babies, and rats, mice, miscellaneous meats, fish, nuts for all.

*Costly Spring Projects: Fix or replace 20-25-year-old aviaries that are collapsing; rebuild raccoon cages. (She is in need of treated wood planking ( 2 by 4's), 8 ft long, 6 ft long; also needed hardware and cloth to complete.

*WR&R long quagmire driveway in need of repair - 1 - 2 loads of base course @ $500 per plus the cost of a skid steer.

*Electrical service to the cages, direct water access to cages, demolition of an old shed to make room for more cages.

*Miscellaneous needs that could be donated: ceiling insulation, a metal garage or large shed, new door, containment cage, steps to containment cage; black plastic tarpaulins, sealer for sealing the deer pen lumber, a set of wooden steps for uphill use.

*cages need raking, grass needs planting; all locks on cages need to be checked and new eye-hooks and handles replaced as necessary.

* Need a 3-5 piece panel roof for one cage; new ramps needed, bird perches need to be added; in need of chain link fencing and a new hutch.

If anybody can contribute in any way, contact Patti Stangel @ 715 832-1462 or 715 962-2079.🙏🙏🙏

I spoke briefly with Patti Stangel this morning. Right now she is caring for and feeding seventeen raptors (red-tailed hawk pictured). Patti's source, whom Patti refers to as "the rat lady" for these birds raised the price per rat from $2.10 each to $3.40 each. (Rat lady pictured below) - As usual, good old American greed has raised its ugly head and to feed the raptors now costs $600 a month. I am not launching the formal Spring fundraiser at this point, but the fact is, Patti really needs all of our help. No donation is too small. Please, please consider writing a check made out to WR&R LLC and send it as soon as possible to

Hello, everybody! Rocky Raccoon here. My hero, Patti Stangel saved my life last year, and to thank her I am asking, begging, pleading with you to sit down and write a check for this many fingers made out to WR&R, LLC and mail it to:

As a scavenging critter, I already know that you hooman beans are hurting cuz I have been digging through your trash cans and even the soup cans have been licked dry! That's why I am only asking you to count my little fingers and write a check for that many dollars. If everybody did that? Patti could afford to buy much-needed supplies. Thank you in advance! If I could? I would lick your face!

I spoke with Ms. Patti Stangel, owner, operator of Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release just yesterday. Patti is a person who is never down . . . never shows any sign of giving up on her life's work: taking in the injured and orphaned wildlife of the Chippewa Valley.
She told me that "the rat lady" (her source of frozen rats that she buys to feed the raptors and other birds in her care) has inexplicably raised her price per rat. Even though Winter has set in, she is constantly getting calls to retrieve injured animals and birds.
Some mornings she cannot get down her driveway because of snow-covered glare ice. We did our best to see if we could get one of the "Giving Tuesday" grants sponsored by Markquart Toyota but I guess not enough folks went online and nominated WR&R, so that did not materialize.
Still, good friends with kind hearts surprise me. Brenda Quinn sent me a check for $100, requesting a copy of "Not Really Sane, Not Really Sorry" and asking me to forward the remaining $80.00 to Patti.
Kay Pence shipped us a large box of freshly picked, very large lemons from Arizona as a gift and asked that I send a check for the cost of postage ($21.10) to Patti to help with expenses.
The pandemic, I know, has set all of us back on our heels. It has been frustrating for me personally because already we have had to cancel two musicians fund raisers and with Dr. Fauci's latest prediction of next Fall being the first time it will be safe to gather, we will be missing the Spring 2021 fund raiser. I am not too proud to beg for the cause I have set my heart upon. If you are reading this, please consider sending a tax deductible check to WR&R

If you prefer to use Venmo of GoFundMe, you will find my authorized accounts available online. Each and every penny will go to the feeding, housing, and recuperating of the hundreds of those who cannot speak for themselves. If you can, please use the opportunity to welcome in the new year with a generous heart. I truly believe in Karma and there is nothing better than "paying it forward".
If you have any questions at all, contact me at 715-200-1237. If I don't pick up, don't hesitate to leave me a detailed message. Here's to not looking back. Here's to looking to the future. Be well, be careful. Execute the three simple steps required to end this plague: wear a mask properly when not at home, avoid being less than 6 feet from other people (10 is better), and wash, wash, wash your hands.
We can do this!

Is it any wonder that Patti Stangel has dedicated her life to the care and nurturing of the abandoned and injured wildlife of the Chippewa Valley? This little guy will survive because of her.
With the advent of the pandemic, Patti, like all of us, has suffered great losses in income through contributions.

If during this, the Season of Giving, you can spare even $5.00, rest assured that every penny will go to the care of all creatures, great and small. Please take a moment today to sit down and write a check to Wildlife Rehab and Release and mail it to Patti Stangel, E9356 830th Avenue, Colfax WI 54730. You can make it a Very Merry Christmas.

Earlier this week, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a rather large bird silently flying to an elderly oak tee along the driveway. I saw where it landed but once it had, I could not locate it. That's how well the markings of a barred owl blend in with its surroundings. Eventually its round face and piercing eyes gave away its position. What a kick to know I have such an interesting neighbor.
I did some research on owls as 'spirit animal' and found this:
