Painted Blue Family!

We have a painted Blue family member who is in need of a new home for their girl. She is a full littermate to our Polly. A Bourbon and Cera Daughter. I am posting for this family to help her find a home. I would also love to keep in contact with whoever adopts this sweet girl, and would extend my support to you as her new family. Please read the following description. ❤️ there is a rehoming fee.s

Due to a family emergency, we’re moving overseas and, unfortunately, can’t take all of our dogs with us. We’re looking for a loving and responsible home for our sweet Khloë.

Khloë is a 2-year-old red merle mini Aussie with stunning blue eyes. She’s on the smaller side but full of personality; feisty, independent, and always the center of attention. She loves to play, especially with the boys! Khloë and her brothers are really close companions. She enjoys jumping on them and initiating play, and she has the best time running around with them. She’s also very affectionate and has a way of making everyone smile with her happy, loving nature.

Khloë is great with both small and large dogs, as well as cats. Her best friend is her sister, a Dutchie, and they love to share food from each other's bowls. She’s easy-going around other animals and is happy to coexist peacefully with them.

She absolutely loves spending time outdoors; whether it’s going for walks, exploring nature, or playing in the backyard. Khloë is very curious and enjoys sniffing around and discovering new surroundings. She’s smart, loves a good adventure, and doesn’t need to be crated. She sleeps comfortably on the couch or her dog bed and is free to roam the house. Khloë has never been destructive and is house-trained.

Khloë is a love bug who enjoys home-cooked meals, but she’s also perfectly happy with dry or wet dog food and treats of all kinds. She’s just the sweetest, happiest girl, and she will immediately brighten your day with her joyful energy.

We’re looking for a home where Khloë can get lots of love, attention, and outdoor playtime. If you’re interested in offering her the perfect home, please reach out to us at [email protected]

Thank you so much for considering our girl!

Meet Bonjour from our greetings litter! This little girl is 7 weeks old and just about ready to greet her forever family. She is AKC Miniature American Shepherd, also affectionately known as a mini Aussie, and estimated to grow to the 15-17 inch range in height.

Bonjour is a GORGEOUS blue merle bi puppy with an irresistible, happy-go-lucky personality. This girl is going to turn heads and melt hearts! I couldn’t be more excited about how confident, curious, and joyful Bonjour is. She’s social and loves meeting new people, playful and curious, with a good off switch for cuddly moments making her the perfect companion for a variety of family and living situations. Whether you’re in a busy household or a quieter home, Bonjour will thrive with her balanced, adaptable temperament. This sweet girl would be a lively and lovey companion with children as well.

This girl is out of a co bred litter with my good friend Julky at Rebel Soul. Learn more and apply by clicking https://www.paintedblueaussies.com/mini-aussie-puppies

Ken entered his first AKC show last weekend, and… well, it was memorable. Success? Not so much. This boy lost his ever-loving mind! He acted like he’d never seen a dog show before in his life. Mind you, he is finished in UKC. We have done the thing! Turns out, several ladies in his sleeping quarters decided to start their cycles that weekend. It all makes sense. Ken is at that awkward age where his second brain is working overtime and hasn’t quite learned to share blood flow with his thinking brain. We’ll keep working on it. Hopefully his head (the intelligent one) gets back in the game!

We did get some cute photos. ❤️

Pretty Doesn’t Make a Service Dog

This isn’t directed at any one individual, but rather stems from a pattern of inquiries I’ve received over the years. Several recent experiences have prompted me to feel the need to share some important education on this topic.

Over the years, I’ve had to turn down multiple inquiries and applications from people seeking specifically colored dogs for “service work.” While I can guide someone toward a puppy or dog I believe has the potential to be a viable prospect, I can also confidently tell them when a specific dog does NOT possess the qualities they need. While I understand the desire for a beautiful flashy dog that could serve as a supportive companion, there’s a critical distinction between wanting a pretty dog you can go out with and choosing one that’s truly suitable for legitimate service work. I’d like to explain why I make these decisions and why it’s so important to prioritize the dog’s well-being over appearances or misplaced expectations.

Imagine I have a dog who a wonderful companion and pet, confident and capable in most situations, except one: being touched by strangers. Now, let’s say this dog is placed with someone who needs a service dog. Picture a scenario where this person has an episode where they could become incapacitated in a public space, like a store, and strangers rush in to help. For a dog with limitations like this, the experience would likely be terrifying. The dog might panic, bolt, or even lash out in fear.

The aftermath would be devastating—not just for the handler, but for the dog. Beyond the risk of the dog becoming lost, injuring a well-meaning bystander, or being impounded by animal control, such an experience could also lead to the dog developing a fear of public outings, triggering a cascade of behavioral issues. Additionally, in the case where a person legitimately needs a service dog, the handler would be left without the reliable support they need, all because the dog’s limitations were overlooked in favor of superficial qualities.

As a breeder, I know my dogs intimately. I understand their strengths, their weaknesses, and their needs. So when I tell someone that a particular dog is not a good fit for service work, I mean it. It’s not a judgment on the person’s intentions—it’s about setting both the handler and the dog up for success. Yes, the dog might have a beautiful coat, mesmerizing blue eyes, and a bubbly, adorable personality. But service work isn’t about looks. It’s about temperament, resilience, and the ability to provide reliable support in unpredictable environments. If a dog doesn’t have the right balance of those qualities, placing them in a service role is unfair. It’s unfair to both the handler and the dog.

When considering a dog for service work, it’s important to maintain fair expectations of the dog’s capabilities. While we can work to guide a dog toward greater achievements and even desensitize them to certain triggers, there are limits to what is healthy and ethical to expect. Pushing a dog too far, too fast, or beyond their natural temperament risks their emotional well-being and can ultimately compromise their success. As handlers, it’s vital to prioritize the dog’s best interests—ensuring their physical and mental health is protected—over our own wants, needs, or emotions. A balanced partnership is key to a successful and sustainable service team.

I also have to address an unfortunate reality: the steadily increasing number of fake service dog requests. These requests not only devalue the importance of legitimate service dogs but also put dogs at risk by placing them in roles they aren’t suited for. Service dogs are working animals with specific skill sets—they aren’t just pets with a title.

In the end, my job is to advocate for my dogs. They deserve to be placed in homes where they can thrive, not fail. I do my best to ensure that as much as I am able. For those genuinely seeking service dogs, I urge you to work with ethical trainers and breeders who prioritize the right match over appearances. Because pretty doesn’t make a service dog.

🌟 Meet Puddle! 🌟 This 2-year-old girl is ready to retire into a loving pet or performance/sport home!

About Puddle:
• DOB: 07/20/2022
• Height/Weight: 16” / 30 lbs
• Health: Fully vaccinated, spayed, and health-tested with passing prelim hips, elbows, and eyes.
• Training: House, crate, and leash trained; great off-leash recall; basic obedience; scent work; tricks; excellent traveler with public manners.

Personality:

Puddle is affectionate, silly, and well-mannered with a strong foundation in training. She does well in public and has attended many classes. She’s wonderful with children, enjoys outings, and thrives with her pack at home. Puddle needs a confident handler who understands her boundaries and will advocate for her. Puddle prefers her family to strangers, and should not be expected to socialize with people she doesn’t know. Ideally I would love to find someone who will continue to work on her scent work skills. She absolutely loves the game. She adores her family, children in the family, and loved ones, and she loves to play and cuddle. 💕🐶

Understanding Your Dog’s Unique Personality

This is a reminder that dogs are individual, complex, with their own unique fears, preferences, and instincts. Sometimes their quirks can defy what we think we know about them.

Take Cera, for example—a certified escape artist. This daring girl can effortlessly scale any type of 6-foot fence I have here, and fearlessly drop to the other side without a second thought. I am always worried she will break a leg. She’s bold, determined, and too intelligent for her own good. Except…

Stairs. Despite her acrobatics, there’s one thing she absolutely WILL NOT do: walk down my wooden stairs to the basement.

In this photo, I’m calling her to come downstairs with me and she’s hiding! 😂 this is not what I would expect to see from Cera, but it is something she simply has not been willing to work through. She will go up, but will not walk down these steps.

These individual quirks are completely normal and part of what makes each dog so special. Some quirks can be worked through with patience and training, while others are simply part of who they are—and that’s okay! Embracing these unique traits allows us to appreciate our dogs for the whole package they bring to our lives, quirks and all. After all, it’s their individuality that makes the bond we share with them so beautiful and memorable.

Have you ever been surprised by your dog’s quirks? Share your stories!

Miss Tuscany is RESERVED to enjoy her well-earned retirement! Videos available on request.

This sweet girl is well-trained and well-behaved, laid-back, and absolutely adores everyone she meets with no fear of children or men. She’s an absolute joy to have as a companion.

Tuscany is wonderful on walks, whether on or off-leash, and is polite and respectful around other dogs. At home, she’s adaptable, biddable and well-mannered. She’ll happily sleep in a crate or curl up beside your bed, and she’s trustworthy when left loose in the house. Tuscany is house-trained, using a doggy door when available, or patiently waiting by the door to let you know she needs to go outside.

Tuscany is fully health tested and has passed all her OFA and genetics. This wonderful girl deserves the best 💙
