Long post but please read on....
PIC numbers, goats and you.
As a breeder and seller of miniature goats I have a responsibility to do everything in my power to maintain a safe environment at my farm and in the wider community. Having a PIC number provides traceability for the stock I buy and sell and helps support positive bio security practices for our marvellous state and beyond.
As a prospective mini goat owner it is your responsibility to also have a PIC number.... before you embark on your life journey with these marvellous little animals. The people you may contact to purchase are bound by law to ensure that you have met this simple requirement BEFORE they can sell their animals. To expect breeders to sell without having this identifying number is placing them at risk of legal repercussions and is simply not fair.
So head over to the DPIPWE website and start the process.
https://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/agriculture/animal-industries/identifying-selling-moving-livestock/about-livestock-identification/property-identification-code-(pic)-registration
It’s easy to obtain, it’s free and it shows us breeders/sellers that you are prepared to do your best to care for your fur kids in a way that supports the safety of all livestock and pet animals in our country.
Properties must be registered with a property identification code if livestock is to be move from, or moved to, it.
