Our Formica rufa tank build is really coming together! 🌱 Today, we added some moss, and we’re excitedly awaiting the arrival of our clean-up crew. This morning we have had a chat with the a department for pet licencing and after a long chat we have accepted a few conditions towards ultimately granting of our pet shop licence with an aim to have our industry recognised and regulated as the legitimate entity we are.

This means that from now, we can no longer provide Queens or colonies as prizes for competitions. This is because it is an offence in the UK to give pets as prizes. All competitions and prizes will be for dry goods and foods (this does not exclude discount codes however which can still apply to livestock).

We must also change our sales streams so only people over the age of 16 can purchase live queens (or with permission of a parent/guardian if under 16), in line with the UK law on buying an animal.

We see this as a huge step forward in our industry and we finally have authorities talking ants as recognised pets and bringing us under the pet industry umbrella.

We hope you all agree, naturally. 🙂
