🦷 Let’s talk about doggie dental health!
Did you know adult dogs have 42 teeth? It’s true! And every one of them should be properly taken care of to maintain the optimal health of our beloved canine friends. Improper cleaning or complete neglect of the teeth and gums can result in an array of health issues including:
🦠 bad breath
🦠 loose teeth
🦠 tartar/plaque buildup
🦠 dropping food
🦠 bleeding of the mouth
🦠 loss of appetite
🦠 weight loss
What can you do to keep Fido’s teeth in fighting shape? 🐶 Great question! In addition to the annual teeth cleanings your pet receives from a veterinarian, you should also start by brushing your pet’s teeth as often as possible. Most veterinarians agree at least 3 times per week for optimal oral health. Teeth brushing should be done only with doggie-safe toothpaste as human toothpaste contains detergents which can prove fatal if ingested. If your pet is feisty for the teeth cleaning, start by using peanut butter on the toothbrush to entice and help condition him/her to the process.
📲 Don’t forget to specifically ask for teeth brushing when you make your grooming appointment.
