Dental cleanings are essential for pets because they play a key role in maintaining their overall health and well-being. Here’s why:

1. Prevents Painful Dental Disease
• Dental cleanings remove plaque and tartar buildup, which can lead to gingivitis and periodontal disease. Left untreated, these conditions can cause pain, infections, and tooth loss.
2. Protects Internal Organs
• Oral bacteria from untreated dental issues can enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys. Regular cleanings reduce this risk.
3. Improves Quality of Life
• Clean teeth and healthy gums allow pets to eat comfortably, stay playful, and avoid the discomfort of dental infections or abscesses.
4. Prevents Bad Breath
• Dental cleanings eliminate the bacteria and plaque that cause foul odors, keeping your pet’s breath fresh.
5. Saves Money Long-Term
• Addressing dental health proactively through regular cleanings can prevent costly and more invasive treatments later, such as extractions or treating advanced infections.
6. Ensures Early Detection of Issues
• During a cleaning, your pet's dental tech can spot early signs of dental disease or other oral health problems, ensuring timely treatment.

Regular dental care keeps your pet healthy, happy, and ready to share those adorable, tail-wagging smiles! Would you like tips for at-home dental care, too?

Our Story

Raysa displayed her passion for pets early, volunteering for an animal rescue center in the Dominican Republic, where she’s from, at age 14.

There, she rescued and rehomed over 30 pets. After, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from veterinary school there, with a clear interest in dentistry. While there, Raysa rescued one of her babies, Shary, a little Shih Tzu, who was very sick when she came into the hospital where she was doing her internship.

Shortly after graduation, Raysa fulfilled her dream to move to the US to bring her strong veterinary knowledge and love for animals here. In 2005, she started working at Miami Beach Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician, then as a surgical technician — doing anesthetic dentals every day. She worked there for 5.5 years, ultimately deciding she could come up with a better way to do dentals without the use of anesthesia.

In 2010, she founded HealthySmiles Pet Dental to allow pets the opportunity to get their teeth cleaned without the use of any sedatives or anesthesia and give pet parents the peace of mind knowing their pets will not be put under anesthesia.
