Happy 11th Birthday to my little Serenity 💕 I don't know what I would do without you. This past year has been a total testimate to your character. You took up the last beacon of Team Vada and proudly preseved the flame. You mentored over 30 new dogs and their people in the art of being a sled dog. When dogs suffered from severe aggression or lacked total confidence and control, you boldly stood by to guide them through it. You inherited a new sidekick and tolerated the antics if the toddler, like a champ. Most of all, you have been by my side unwavering. I look down as I write this and there you are snoozing under my feet. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would have a completely off leash husky, no worries and perfect recall. In all honesty I know that is attributed not to the training but to our deep bond and connection; the trust and honesty we have between eachother💕🐾
You have my heart. As much as this year was a total adventure, may we yet have many more😘😘😘❤️

We have been feeding our sled dogs fresh organic whole food for over 15 years and I have been obsessed with canine health and wellness beyond normal conventional veterinary care. I mean we were training high level canine athletes and I wanted only the best for them. So when C2C ( you know if you know 😉) interviewed Rodney Habib on their new book The Forever Dog, I knew I needed it on my bookshelf. That christmas during our regular book exchange I was over the moon when my mom surpised me with that book. I read once. Then I read it again. A third time and then a fourth. And now I am re reading it again🤣 no shame! BECAUSE that is how amazing it is🐾🐕

Fast forward to the year 2024 and duo Dr. Karen Becker and Rodney Habib announced their new recipe book?? I preordered it as soon as I could.

This recipe book is truely one of kind and arguably a must have; taking love them like family and feed them like family to another level. From my new little puppy to my 15 year old senior, these recipes keep their bodies strong and healthy.

AND not only are the treat recipes perfect for canine kids but also for the human variety as well. As a busy mom I love that I can make snacks that I know are healthy for all my kiddos🙏❤️ (also my toddler is having a habit of slight of handing my training treat bag for her treats🙈 so these recipes give me piece of mind she won't get sick )

I could go on and on about how freakin obsessed I am and how greatly appreciative I am for people reaching outside the box and debunking the "you should only feed your dog kibble" myth.

I lost my Razzie to cancer at 12years. I lost my Badger to kidney disease at 13 years. I lost my Katya to a heart disease at 12 years. I felt I failed them all. Dogs should live longer then that! All I can think about is I want a do over. I am going to make all my dogs forever dogs! Serenity( 11) Pirate( 12) and Naomi(15) and now my little Forever puppy Lyra.

Meet Pirate. Pirate is VERY choosy on who he likes and doesn't like. Pirate has enjoyed the company of one dog his entire life and tolerated a grand total of four. All female. 9/10 he will attack a new dog even before sniffing them and there is a 50% chance that he will attack one of his chosen pals unprovoked. He is, what you might call a real jerk. And he has been that way for 12 years. 12 years of managing him and policing his every move. The only saving grace was he loved to be a sled dog and was able to mind his marbles in harness... well most of the time. Pirate is no joke. And most certainly didn't just grow out of his aggressive tendencies even as a senior.

Now enter new puppy. Was I terrifed that my boy would eat her? Yes I was. So imagine my surprise when he was a perfect gentleman at their initial greeting( dogs are so bizarre sometimes 🤦🏽‍♀️). And the rest is history , as you can see by them walking together. Of course I always have my watchful eye on him, because he lost his freedom privilages awhile ago.

So let me share with you my revelations:
🐾 1. Dogs are not their aggression. Agression is a symptom of environment they are in. You can have a dog be a total psyco in one environment and a total angel in the other. Same dog, different situation and environment.
🐾2. Dogs, just like people, can choose who their friends are and who they just can't stand! I am by no means saying that a dog should be allowed to be reactive towards another dog. Rather they should never be put in a situation where they are forced to be around dogs they already don't like. Not fair to the dog.
🐾3. Agression is an emotion not a blind reaction. There is s brief moment where the dog will freeze even for just a split second before reacting. If you can catch them during that second you can redirect them or in my opinion calm their emotional state. Quiet frankly some dogs are just emotional and some are cool and collective.

For Pirate I am glad he has decided to be a teacher rather then a bully💕🐾

Year number one in the books🥳🥳 Happy Anniversary to Very Amazing Dog Academy LLC!!! What a journey it has been( about 25 years in the making if we are being honest). I am so humbled by all the love and support. ( special thank you to my merch hounds and biggest fan group... you know who you are😉❤️) There is no better thing then to wake up and live your life's purpose everyday.
HUGE shout out to and the staff at Grand County Animal Shelter who brought me on board to work with their dogs; a dream I have had since I started volunteering there in the 3rd grade.

Now I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge MY dogs. Each of them a precious stitch in my tapistry of training. Each of them a mentor in their own right. So much we can learn from a dog if only we listen🥰🐾🐾

My mother used to tease me , "My daughter who thinks she is my dog"😂 Who knew that simple fact would be a strength for my budding career.

I am SO excited for where the road leads, for all the knowledge I have yet to aquire and for all the dogs I will meet along the way. VADA has so many fun things planned for the coming year. Don't miss out! It's goin to be good 😎

Leash reactivity is no joke. It can turn a simple relaxing walk into an anxiety ridden chore. It takes work to overcome. It takes patience and consistency. At the end of it all; a hope that your dog gains confidence and you both get peace. The secret is movement. The key is having your dog look to YOU, in moments of uncertainty.

Did you know that a dog's body language changes when they pull on a leash? As they strain against a leash they appear tense to another dogs no matter how friendly their intentions might be.

Think loose leash and eye contact. Those two things can transform not only their behavior but also how they appear to other dogs!

Storytime! These two pups would jump out of their skin at the meer sight of eachother even when a foot ball field away. Now within a couple feet of eachother, they are totally focused on their handler and completely calm. This didn't happen overnight. Or even in the course of a couple weeks. This took time and energy to achieve. Both these ladies deserve a gold star for their accomplishment🥳 ⭐️ AND this is only the beginning. I am excited to see where it goes from here!

Say what you will about the Iditarod, but you don't get a team down the trail by not knowing how to take care of your dogs. Mushers hands down are the doggiest people around🐕🐾 an amazing feat to accomplish for both dog and man.

Happy Birthday my sweet boy! Oh what a true gift to spend 12 years with such a dog. Though some might laugh and disagree, wonder why I put up with him all these years. The antics, the brut personality that seemed to say " you look like someone who could use a beating" ( living up to his name eh )😂. Hey what can I say I love the bad boys and this boy definitely stole my heart ❤️

I can honestly say I would not be where I am today without him. It's funny how the hardest dogs yeild the best rewards. I put on the hat of trainer and parade around like I am the influence of his behavior, but in truth he is my mentor. He has been since the beginning. He humbly put up the harness and shed the sled dog skin only to charge into a new career of scent work. Like Garalt of Rivia he took on our little "child of surprise" as her protector.
I saved him from a life of structured obedience, of sitting in a kennel and waiting. In turn he gave me my career and the best years of my life behind the best group of dog. He taught me to let life be a wave, let it crash. Ride it like a ship and reach the riches at the edge of the word.

I love you big boy. 12 years young and still going strong 🐾💕🎂

It's amazing what consitancy, perseverance and dedication can do for a dog. I am so proud of Mr. Snoopy and his family who have worked hard in setting him up for sucess and harnessing his inner potential🐾🐕 He started as a puppy play date participant and ended up starting private training with VADA LLC. There have been bumps in the road, but he has proven that any dog can turn things around when given the chance. It takes work. It takes saying " no matter what we won't give up on him". Snoopy's family did this and more. I am humbled by the opportunity to be apart of his growth and journey!
