Adopting a new dog is the best! It’s also really hard. Shelters and rescues are overrun with dogs who were adopted and returned because families went into the adoption with limited information.

It hasn’t slowed him down, but this little guy has a broken leg. A result of excessive jumping.
Often we overlook less than ideal behaviors in smaller dogs because they can come across as cute or are easily thwarted. But it only takes one time to have painful and expensive consequences.
Don’t wait until it becomes a problem, reach out today and we can work together to tweak those behaviors - without sacrificing an ounce of your dog’s cuteness!! I promise that won’t ever go away ❤️

It may not officially be summer yet, but here in Los Angeles it’s feeling very summer! And that means it’s too hot outside for long walks in the afternoon. So what do you do with your dog who still has tons of energy?
Teach ‘em something new! Mental stimulation will burn that energy, can happen inside or in the shade, and is so much fun for both of you!! Today Archie and I practiced his circus skills by using a sprinkler cover. Learned to put one paw on, two paws, back paws, all 4 paws - all sorts of fun combinations.
So many things around your house can be used to teach your dogs new skills, encourage them to think and move their body in new ways. What weird item in your house will you use next?

I don’t believe in cat person vs dog person. All animals are magical! And there’s not much else better than a cozy movie night at home with 10 lbs of purring on your lap. (But don’t ask me to train a cat.)

Summer is here! Super fun for us, but can be rough on your dog (no pun intended).
Please be aware of how much time your dog spends outside and familiarize yourself with signs of heat stroke in dogs.
And training isn’t just about obedience, it’s about engagement and bonding with your dog. The summer months are a great time to teach new skills indoors - work their minds when outdoor exercise isn’t an option.

After every walk Archie climbs into his favorite chair so I can check his paws, tail and ears for foxtails. Those suckers are everywhere and can become a big problem. Don’t forget to add a foxtail check to your walk routine! (and if you’ve worked with me you know this is part of your cooperative care 😉)
And as a clumsy person who fell on a hike this past weekend, and came up with an 🍑 covered in foxtails I can personally attest to how painful they are. 🤣🤣

I had the privilege of working with 3 dogs from the same litter over the past few months. And today we all met up for a play date!! So much fun to watch these siblings play like true brothers and sisters. By the end of the playdate it was as though no time had passed. There are so many reasons I love my job and this is definitely one of them!!

Archie knows to sit when asked. He’s really good at it. But today I had asked for a sit and he was not doing it (first picture). My first thought was that he was being stubborn, but then I realized the sun was in his eyes. Of course he wasn’t going to move into a position that would make the glare worse.
So we moved a few inches into the shade (second picture) and he sat without me even having to ask!
It may seem obvious but it’s easy for us to forget about our dog’s perspective. Before getting frustrated remember to think about what you’re asking them to do and where.

My approach to dog training is unique. My style isn’t for everyone. And there are days filled with “no’s” and cancellations. And sometimes I question my approach. But then a client goes and says the nicest things and it’s all worth it.
In an industry where patience and kindness for the dog (and owner) can be viewed as weaknesses it means the world to me to receive a review like this.
I love what I do and am proud to be different. And thank you to all my clients, past and future, who welcome me into their homes.

I love getting pics of a tired pup after a session! Mental exercise is just as important as physical exercise, you’ll be amazed at how tired your pup gets with just a few minutes of slowing down and encouraging them to think.
Today Nala did a great job of doing just that, slowing down and taking in her surroundings instead of rushing (pulling) through a walk. So proud of Nala!!

Teaching a dog to relax is an important and often overlooked skill. But can be especially useful with a young or reactive dog. Here it may look like Archie isn’t doing much but he’s learn to relax and calm himself around many distractions.

Separation anxiety can be challenging on the dog and their family. It often feels like an only uphill climb. I promise that there is a solution; not a quick fix but with routine, patience and a little grace for yourself there is a path. And when you’re feeling frustrated just remember that little face you love is trying their best.

As with any job, some days are harder than others. But some days you get to work outside with a dog who has made incredible strides, overlooking beautiful LA views and breathing in that post rain air. And then it’s hard to remember the more challenging days.
Picture taking is a great way to practice patience and focus; and you get a great pic after!
