I, Lisa, am the owner and lead artisan here. My toys are all made by hand using materials no longer wanted. I specialize in repurposing textiles that would otherwise pollute our landfills and transform them into toys and accessories for pets. I also aim for durability and health-conscious techniques. I use a combination of tried and true knots as well as my own unique style to add strength and added durability; especially in the weaker spots. Since 2017, my products have evolved and improved. Several dog breeds have tested toys and I take pride in the care and consideration put in to make each toy unique and well made
Puppy Pals was est. in 2017. Simply by watching youtube videos with my daughter, I discovered that t-shirts can be made into yarn that can be repurposed and used to make other items. This led to research on knot making and eventually Puppy Pals Pet Toys was born. My first batch were born from old T-shirts laying around our home. You know the ones from races, volunteer expos, old jobs, sport teams, etc? We have evolved to also use old fleece blankets, which help to make some thick and strong dog toys. Our squeak toys are made with upcycled denim and upholstery fabric; double-walled for added strength and even filled with fabric pieces instead of poly fil.
Most of our materials are generously donated by customers met and community members. Other materials are purchased at local thrift shops. Something else that is amazing about these toys is that not only are they eco-friendly, but health-conscious. They help get our pets active, the scrape tartar off teeth, they provide comfort, enjoyment, and exercise. This business is a handmade business, that conducts most sales at in person markets and fairs. Aside from making and selling toys, I'm a mom of two little girls and 3 fur babies (2 cats and a dog), a private tutor (former teacher), and a wife.
I was also a proud owner of two Cockatiels for 22 years. I now have found a way to also make toys for birds using recycled materials as well as non-toxic, chew safe materials full of enticement and cozy spaces.
