Meet Brooks. I did a double take when I heard his name. “Really?” I had to ask. Brooks is a pretty unusual name for a person, and certainly for a cat. Brooks was the middle name of my brother in law who passed away a year ago. Brooks’ dad and I chatted as his father, who was visiting, came in and out of the kitchen. The clients’ home is in the neighborhood I grew up in, so I told them about my friend Robbie, who lived in the house next door to theirs back in the day, and Anne and Pete, my parents’ friends who still live around the corner, and how I used to bring my dad to see them during his last year when he was suffering from Dementia.

I got an email later that day. The client’s father had met a woman walking her dog in the cemetery earlier that week and they had talked for a while about her family’s sad story of a son in law and husband who passed away 23 days apart. The story had hit him hard, and he has talked about it every day since.

“We put two and two together, is Irene your mother in law?”

“No, Irene is my mother.”

Another sign from my favorite guys 🌈 ☀️. Oh, and I love this sweet kitty, Brooks.

Percy, taking care of business this morning —gardening, pest control, checking the perimeter for loose boards, and, of course, taking a dust bath because you KNOW his parents like to come home to a kitty in a dirty tuxedo! Last morning with mine and my late dad’s little buddy ‘til next time!

UPDATE: Not ten seconds later, our little 007 DID find a weakness in the perimeter and made his move! Warden Jen caught him within seconds, he was contrite, upon being retrieved, but I could tell this would not be his last tangle with the law… Photos in comments!
