As I pulled down the drive towards Summit Equestrian, I felt as though I was moving through Narnia. The ice-coated trees sparkled in the rising sunlight, just sneaking out behind the mountain looming over me.

Fred sez: Winter has returned to Summit Equestrian which has launched my mom on a cleaning frenzy of my legs. Some would say she is even fanatical about having me look nice. Can we blame her? After all, I is a Handsome!

Fred sez: Me loves having guest groomers! Here I am with Moose Hockey Alaska’s Nuggets player Katherine Borg. Talk about 6 degrees of separation; Katherine is good friends with Jasmine, who is one Mom’s sons, Brendan’s friends from the time he lived in this place called Eng-ga-land. Apparently, it’s a place bigger than my barn which is across this big puddle called a pond. Jasmine came to visit Brendan’s family a few years back so she could play this hockey game here. Anyhoo, I’m all about establishing these world wide connections cuz I love my peoples! ❤️

So a funny thing happened while I was working on renewing my Safe Sport certification. We’d had a recent & lengthy power outage during a wind storm & I was getting my printer reconfigured wirelessly to my desk top PC. Somehow, the Bluetooth got left on, so while I was happily scrolling through my refresher course, my neighbor was hearing the broadcast via a speaker he didn’t realize he had in his master bath. One of his former owners had been a tekkie so this must have been installed during that previous time. Might have wanted to listen to music or podcasts while getting ready for work I presume.

At any rate, my neighbor was learning a great deal about bullying, harassment & unwanted sexual contact! He had no idea such a program existed in the equestrian, let alone, the larger sports world.

So….Safe Sport, you’re welcome for my inadvertent spreading of the word that we endeavor to keep our kids as safe as possible!

Fred sez: I packed my mom around yesterday as Auntie Lauren was unavailable. Mom used her new inhaler so I didn’t have to worry about her keeling over from lack of supplemental O2! We had a great time & I was just so relieved that the old girl still has it!

We had a special visitor to the barn today. There was a loud collision against the arena window this morning. When I ran out, I found this little fellow, head down in the snow with his wings spread & not moving. I suspect he was trying to get away from a predator. I brought him inside to warm up & let him recover from his concussion. I believe this is a saw-whet owl, the smallest owl species in North America. I love the fluffy pantaloons which support the tiniest talons. I took him back outside when he was revived enough to perch, but didn’t want to leave my hand. I tried transferring him to a branch, but he fluttered up to my shoulder. When I tried to transfer him again, he flew to another window, tried to perch on the frame & fell again. As I walked towards him, he flew into the trees & was gone later back into Nature.
