Jake would have been 3 years old yesterday. I miss him so much.

Jake is 2 years old today. I asked him what he wanted for his birthday. He asked for Amazon boxes. 😆 He loves boxes. Happy Birthday Jakie! 🥳🥰

So most if you do not know but Dean brought home another kitten from the warehouse July 30th. Emancipated and flea ridden. Totally, we were going to rehome him. Then Jake fell in love with him. How could we say no to that? 💞 His name is Buddy.

I am totally heart broken. Rest in Peace Jakey Poo Poo. Mommy loves you.

It is never easy working in a hospice field with animals. While working as a vet tech at the animal shelter in New Hampshire I mostly helped with the spay/neuter program. I was monitoring sedation, immunizing, blood work and other tests and giving medication. But then there was always that pet (mostly older) that would be in hospice and need fostering. Of course, I brought them home. I absolutely loved what I did and giving them a special life that they would not have normally until the end of their life. But, it was heartbreaking. I loved all of them.

Jakey passed away last Friday AM in his sleep. A blessing I suppose that he was home. I am heartbroken that I was not there with my husband when this happened.

Jake had quite the journey in life. My husband brought him home from the warehouse in Miami. He was two days old. Still had the umbilical cord attached. Flea ridden. It was a long journey but I bottle fed him every two hours and bathed him to rid him of the fleas. We always knew there was something wrong with him. So he went off to the vet where he was diagnosed with atrial septal defect (heart murmur) and he was blind. His eyes were bathed many times throughout the day and medicated. He ended up with a cardiologist and we were informed the heart murmur was too large to repair and he most likely would not survive the surgery. He was, however, cleared for eye enucleation (eye removal for his painful eye condition) and his abdominal neuter because he was cryptorchid. His surgery was a success and he has lived a fairly normal and comfortable life since then with a few bumps along the way. The cardiologist told us he would have a shortened life. Even armed with that information I was not totally prepared. He has lived well beyond his expected life expectancy.

I miss you Jakey Poo Poo. Rest in Peace sweet boy. Mommy loves you.

Jake has grown into a handsome man. He's a little under the weather this week so hopefully he'll get through this one just fine. 💞

How to confuse your blind cat. 😆 You give him boxes but then you add the patio furniture around it. They are power washing the courtyard so Jake doesn't know what to think. He is actually having quite the adventure.

Jake has recently discovered house flies. He hasn't caught one (yet). He's doing pretty good. For those that don't know he is blind. It just amazes me the things that he can do. 💞

Rosie figured out I opened the windows today. I think she would love a catio. She is the new neighborhood watch. She knows everything that is going on in the courtyard and loves watching all the birds and lizards.
