So recently I have been working alongside Second Chance Spaniel Rescue, Spaniels are such loveable, bouncy personalities and this charity is devoted to trying to place them in new homes often after very sad, traumatic past experiences. This can bring behavioural challenges, so placing dogs in foster whilst assessing them allows time to see how they accept day to day life, some dogs really struggle to decompress and cope, like Spark, who I met last week. The team are dedicated to supporting whats right for him and his needs, and I am also on hand to assist.
Being part of the journey to help a dog learn trust, confidence, coping mechanisms and change their feelings to happier and positive ones is amazing. But, it's not always easy, very often not!, it can be emotional, knowing the struggles these dogs have faced.
Still, it's the best job in the world!
If you are interested in volunteering, fostering or even adopting a spaniel please view their page and see if you can be part of changing a dogs life.
⚡️SPARK IS NOW IN FOSTER CARE & BIENG ASSESSED ⚡️
Today we are spotlighting our handsome boy Spark.
Spark has had a foster home and overall has thrived quite well there, his fosterers didn't adopt as they lived in a busy location and they felt that there was too much noise around the home from outside (the road and passers by) and that some of the walks were a little too busy for him.
That said they did have lots of great times with Spark, he was let off his lead in more rural areas where he has had space, and went to a couple of quieter pubs on the odd occasion and they did feel that in slightly different surroundings he would go from strength to strength.
Unfortunately we were not able to find his adoptive home pre Christmas, despite extensive posts and pleas - the right home didn't come along.
This has found Spark in kennels over the Christmas period, we are pleased one of our adopters, experienced with spaniels had kennel space within her business, and reached out to us, thank you. She has worked extensivley with Spark to understand him further and this has been so helpful.
But we really really need to find Spark a home where we can move him on to the next phase of his rehab and rescue as we have exhausted what we can be achieve in kennels.
Here is a quick checklist as to what Spark needs, we have a lot more detail we can share with you and will chat very openly about what he needs, we just need a kind, patient experienced home to step forward and help. Spark is more complex than some dogs, but nothing that hasn't been seen in rescue on numerous occasions.
‼️Sparks needs & wishes‼️
🐾A quiet rural home
🐾Spark would be better as a solo dog, but has actually displayed a low level of dog reactivity overall in kennels, it would be very possible to introduce to family dogs (especially females) over time with the right intros
🐾Spark is nervous of new people. He takes his confidence directly from his handler and therefore Sparks new family would have to be calm, confident and unwavering in taking control of situations and redirecting his anxiety
🐾Timing and rewards for good behaviour should be delivered with accuracy at all times – he loves a ball for reward.
⚡️Spark is⚡️
❣️4 years old
❣️Neutered
❣️Has no experience with cats
❣️Does NOT have a bite history, he has lunged at one person where they were allowed (incorrectly) to approach him in his home, very early on in foster all too quickly.
If you feel you can help would you PLEASE consider Spark, please fill in his short application form and we will call you back to talk about Spark some more. Spark is based in Brighton and you would need to travel to meet him and speak to the handler who has worked so hard with him this last few weeks to help you to help him.
🐾🌟Thanks🌟🐾
