1. Fear Doesn’t Build Trust
Punishing your dog can scare them, but positive training builds a bond based on trust and fun. They’ll actually want to listen to you!
2. Long-Term Results
Punishment may stop bad behavior short-term, but rewarding good behavior sticks around. It’s like teaching your dog good habits they want to keep! Being positive also stop other behaviour cropping up instead!
3. Confidence > Anxiety
Aversive methods leave your dog stressed. Positive training helps them feel confident and excited to learn with you.
4. Happier Pup
Punishment = stress. Treats and praise = a happy dog. It’s that simple.
5. It’s Science!
Positive reinforcement works better and is kinder as shown in many studies that I won’t go into too much detail on (or this post will go on all night ) A study published in the “Journal of Veterinary Behavior” found that dogs trained with positive reinforcement techniques show fewer signs of stress and anxiety compared to dogs trained with aversive methods. Dogs in positive reinforcement environments were more relaxed and engaged during training sessions.
Bottom line: Positive training makes your dog happier, more confident, and way easier to train. Treats > punishment, every time!
