I'm Amy Clough, owner and sole baker of Clough'D 9 Cookies and Sweets (pronounced "cloud nine"). My cookies are a buttery vanilla cookie with a hint of lemon, topped with sweet vanilla royal icing. I am located on Maryland's Eastern Shore, amidst the farm fields and waterways of Caroline County. I do not have a store front, but bake my treats in my licensed commercial kitchen- found in my backyard

! I will deliver my treats free of charge to the Preston, Easton, or Denton areas. Unfortunately, I no longer ship cookies as of 2018. Please send me message to inquire about cost. Cookies can be individually bagged as favors, gift boxed, or arranged on platters (platters for local orders only).

Now that it’s officially the Christmas holiday season, I want to share my second entry into the Austin CookieCon Sugar Show from September. The category was “Needlecraft” and there were so many fantastic entries! I was inspired by the felt and sequin Christmas stockings I made for my boys using the Bucilla craft kits. I have about 2/3 of my husband’s felt stocking completed (thanks to the COVID era). I have a felt stocking too (it has cookies on it, obviously 😉). But it’s still in the package, yet to be started. I’ll get to it one day!

If you look real close, you’ll notice that I included some of my favorite things that all Cookiers would love to get in their stockings: pink baking mats from .cookie , meringue powder from , detail pens from , and purple cutters from . A fine gift indeed!

Amidst prepping for my Add-On Workshops for Austin I was able to squeeze in two Sugar Show pieces. I absolutely love creating pieces for the Sugar Show because it gives me the opportunity to try out a technique I’ve been curious about and to stretch those creative legs!

Here’s the peony cookie I created for the “Florals” Sugar Show category. I needed to keep my entry streamlined/ narrow because I knew it had to be packed with some other cookies in my under-the-seat bag on my Southwest flight. So a layered royal icing transfer cookie fit the bill! I started with designing a peony graphic on . I created two royal icing transfers for each color layer: the original design and the reversed image. Once the transfers dried, I carefully peeled and stacked each icing layer on the base cookie. I love the dimension and depth that the reversed transfers provide in the final design!

I finally have a free moment to pull a few pictures from my adventures in Texas last month. As always, it was an amazing time! This was my 13th(!) CookieCon- I’ve been so fortunate to have attended every one since 2013! I taught four 4-hour Add-On Workshops over the course of two days to nearly 70 students. Sorry I don’t have pictures from class- I was busy teaching. My students did soooo well! It’s always thrilling to watch those “ah-ha!” moments and to see joy in students’ faces! Thank you for choosing me and my classes!

It takes a village to pull off successful classes at CookieCon. I couldn’t have done it without my roomies and assistants Cari from and Cindi from . Love you girls!

My students also received a bunch of goodies from me, like custom scribes, tools, workbooks, and cutters. My students left with everything they need to recreate the class designs at home. Talk about setting students up for success!

Since the conference was in Texas, I had to ship nearly alllll of my stuff to . I am so grateful to her for taking care of the nearly 20(!) boxes, painstakingly checking each box and individual cookie for damage, as well as protecting them from the Texas heat (which I now refer to as the surface of the Sun 🥵). Seriously, it’s tooo hot for me.😂

Finally, once classes are done, I had a little bit of time to catch up/reconnect/get to know treasured friends. You might recognize some of them, like and sooooo many others that I didn’t get pics with. They know who they are 😉. They love me for ME.

Today was my baby’s last First Day of School 😭. I can’t believe he’s a senior. His dad and I are so incredibly proud of him, and we’re super stoked to watch him soar this year! Best wishes to all the teachers and students out there!

🍔What a terrific Burger Time class at .dessert.depot yesterday!! We served up great cookie versions of a grilled burger patty, toasted buns, fries, coleslaw, lettuce and tomato! My students did such a wonderful job! Thanks for coming to class!

Fun fact: I planted dozens of tulip bulbs around my house in the fall of ‘22. We had most of them bloom last spring. But alas, only about 5 this year. The suspected culprits? A colony of voles. So we’ve put out some non-toxic deterrents (castor oil pellets) and hope to plant marigolds for summer- apparently voles don’t like the smell of any of those. I refuse to put out poisons; we have too many birds of prey (including a TON of eagles!) that call my area home. I’ll sacrifice my flowers in favor of maintaining the balance of nature in my backyard. Didn’t expect a decorated cookie post to turn into a science lesson, did ya? Once a science teacher, always a science teacher 😉. Fun fact: I don’t particularly like real carrots. No “baby” carrots, no peas ‘n carrots, no potatoes roast with carrots. None of that, please. I’ll tolerate shredded carrots in salads. That’s about all I can handle. I won’t turn down carrot cake or a carrot cookie though! Carrot cookies are so fun to make. Some Easter pretties that I started back in January 🤭. I designed and printed the cutters and even baked the sample cookies. I had big plans for this set! I was going to be ahead of the game for once! And then I was notified that I was accepted to teach Add-On Workshops at CookieCon this September in Austin. All other side projects were put on immediate hold so that I could work through my CookieCon class designs (I’m soooo excited about my CookieCon classes!). The Easter cookies were placed in my “best of intentions” bin for future practice/social media content. Does anyone else have one of those bins? I was so happy to have the chance to bring these spring designs to life.
