100% volunteer-run charity, genuinely concerned with the welfare of needy animals. WE FOUND OUR FUREVER HOME! However, we still need your help.
REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE ON THE MOVE?
“Gray skies are going to clear up, put on a happy face.” Just like the lyrics of that old song, NTCR is still saying “good day, sunshine” as we look back on the incredible journey that brought us to where we are today. Nearly three years ago, we faced the challenge of losing our previous shelter location, just as the pandemic’s impact was being felt by all. With
no fundraising events and reduced donations, we were uncertain of the future. But thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the incredible support from our community, we were able to temporarily place our cats and kittens in loving foster homes—saving lives and ensuring no one was left behind. Then, the day we had been waiting for arrived: we moved into our own fur-ever home! Today, we are thrilled to say that we’ve settled into our new shelter, and it’s been an amazing journey. In the past three years, we have continued our mission, and we couldn’t have done it without the ongoing support from all of you. The costs of running a shelter are ongoing, and our veterinary bills, supplies, and the day-to-day expenses of caring for over 150 cats and kittens remain high. We are still fundraising just as hard as ever to ensure that we can continue to provide the best care for our feline friends. Your generosity is what keeps us going, and we need your continued support to ensure that we can continue our lifesaving work. Together, we’ve saved over 4,000 cats in the last 36 years, and we know that, with your help, we can save many more. Thank you for being a vital part of our journey. We are excited for the future and the many more lives we can change with your support.

Buddha Belly is Safe… But What If He Wasn’t?
Our Buddha Belly—a tiny kitten with a big name and an even bigger appetite! He’s safe and warm in foster care with his mama Abby, who’s doing an amazing job keeping him fed and loved.
But earlier today, little Buddha Belly let out a loud, determined cried for his mama’s milk—and it hit us hard.
Because if he were still outside, that same cry could attract danger. Coyotes. Raccoons. Cars. Harsh weather. All real threats for outdoor kittens and their moms.
Thankfully, Abby and Buddha Belly are off the streets. But not every mama cat is so lucky. We have pregnant cats and nursing moms waiting at our door, hoping for a chance to raise their babies in safety.
We need your help to say YES.
To open the door.
To make room.
To protect the most vulnerable—before it’s too late.
Please consider donating, or sharing this post. Together, we can give more moms like Abby, and more babies like Buddha Belly, the safe start they deserve. https://www.facebook.com/donate/607544818756736

Abby & Buddha Belly Update!
Sweet Abby is being an incredible mama — attentive and loving, always nearby as her little one, Buddha Belly, toddles around, eyes wide open and crying out for her snuggles and milk. They’re safe, dry, warm, and always have food and water. They’re loved and being cared for.
But not all moms and kittens are this lucky. Out there, mama cats are doing their best just to survive. Their kittens cry, searching for them — hungry, cold, lost. Sometimes, the weakest one can’t find their way back. Sometimes, mom doesn’t have enough milk… or strength… or time. We’ve seen it — like with Mama Kiwi, who simply couldn’t feed her babies until we stepped in. This is why we need your help.
Please click the link to donate — and share far and wide. Let’s get the word out for Abby, Buddha Belly, Kiwi and all the moms and kittens still waiting for help.
Snuggles ahead…Our sweet pair Bingo and Ollie have found their fur-ever Home and Family Together! A warm lap, cozy blankets, and so much love await. Happy tails, little ones!

Happy Story (Adopted 2021)
Hi, I adopted 3 cats from you guys a few years ago, two of whom had been abused in the past. Stoney, now Oliver aka Ollie, is a grey cat with a white spot on his neck, Loki, whose name is still Loki, is a handsome tux with a white Poirot mustache, and Scarlett the kitten, now Callisto aka Callie, is a fully grown tortie (but I still call her Kitten)
I just wanted to let you guys know that of the two boys, Oliver is now a total snuggler, and Loki sleeps behind my head on the couch and Callie my little girl is a total lap cat. Thank you guys for the love you helped bring into my life ♥️

🐾Kiwi's Kitten Chronicles: Week 6 Update! 🐾
The kittens are 6 weeks old now and are full of energy, constantly wrestling with each other and running all over the place! All of their baby teeth have come in, and they’re in the middle of transitioning from formula to baby food, which they’re handling really well and starting to eat confidently on their own. We've learned the two black kittens are boys, the white kittens are one girl and one boy, and the tabby kitten is a girl. Their little personalities are starting to show—each one is becoming more distinct and now we're brainstorming what to name them! Kiwi has been so patient with them as they love to play with her tail and often playfully bite her face. Despite their rough play, she stays calm and gentle with them, showing what a good mom she is. Please HELP us continue to help Kiwi, Abby, Buttercup and many more waiting at the door to come in by Donating and Sharing our post. https://www.facebook.com/donate/607544818756736/

Our Story
North Toronto Cat Rescue (NTCR) is a registered, non-profit, 100% volunteer-run organization in its 30th year of continuous community service. It was established by Donna Cox, whose goal was to take vulnerable cats off the street and bring them into a secure environment, where they could live in complete safety until they found their permanent home.
Over the years, more than 3,500+ cats have benefited from the services of NTCR, and are now living the lives they deserve as part of a loving family. These cats found hope and a permanent home after having experienced varying degrees of hardship in the hostile street environment or in the hands of uncaring owners. Approximately 160 cats are still living at the shelter today, away from the horrors of the street and the harsh lives they previously led.
Mission - Many of the abandoned and lost cats are not spayed or neutered, thus contributing to the already over-population of strays. There are too many colonies of cats who live short and difficult lives, ending in equally miserable deaths. We would like to see all these animals come in from the cold, and ultimately find their "furever" homes.
Our Work - North Toronto Cat Rescue is a volunteer run, non-profit, registered charity, genuinely concerned with the welfare of all cats and kittens. We rescue and provide veterinary care to homeless felines, and follow through to recovery and finally adoption.
Most rescue organizations in our area employ the use of foster homes to house rescued animals, NTCR is unique in that NTCR cats live in the NTCR shelter.
Since we are a no kill facility, this means that our kitties get to stay with us until they find their forever homes. This can take a while, because more often than not, they do not come to us in an "adoptable" condition. It is through hard work, saintly patience, and a lot of love and compassion that our volunteers are able to help these cats transform into "respectable" pets!
Most of our cats have either been evicted from their homes or are children of "evictees". They arrive after having experienced varying degrees of hardship, both at the hands of uncaring and abusive owners, and while trying to cope on their own out in the hostile street environment, where they suffer hunger, frostbite, injuries - often fatal, and even poisoning - by humans who view them as mere pests.
NTCR is also unique among other shelters. Our no cage policy means our kitties are free to romp and play; they are provided with the opportunity to learn to "play nice" with others, animal and human, and to experience a life style that is as close to the home life they will have when they find their forever homes. Our cats live in compatible groupings, each group having its own room in the shelter.
A community project. In addition to providing a home for our cats, our shelter is also a community project, where school children come to experience hands on caring for the animals. It is through this type of community service, that they learn the value of giving and caring.
This community project needs your help! By giving a home to one of our cats, you become part of the animal rescue effort! An added benefit - each adoption makes room for another desperate animal to be brought in from the cold.
